We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our package with the Canopy family. It is a luxurious lodge and the room was just beautiful. In the midst of beautiful gardens, lots of bird feeders with various birds visiting, well kept trails within the gardens to wander around on, a well built tree house and a fascinating stream that gurgles quietly at times and turns into a torrent of water with rocks crashing in it as they get displaced during heavy downpours...... it is all a magical experience. The rooms are clean, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The communal seating areas are also very well appointed and comfortable. Our only negative here was that the food was great on some days and very average or uninteresting on some days, especially when the effort to provide a dessert on one day was simply sliced papaya. As a world class eco lodge with great guides and birding, superb rooms and a stunning setting, we expected the food to match this level. Yet we would go back again as the focus was not the food but the birds. The trip to the beach for waders and raptors was a well organised amazing day.…
This is an exceptional, magical place, not just for birders (although they cater to those of us in this category), but I would be perfectly fine recommending this to my non-birding friends as well for a superbly relaxing week! Beautiful, garden-like surroundings, a peaceful little stream running thru the property; a natural swimming hole, very spacious rooms with private balconies, and excellent food (al fresco dining)! The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The nearby charming town of Valle de Anton with its lovely artisan shops and great market is only a taxi ride away - or the Lodge may even send one of their own drivers. I will absolutely return!
This is a very comfortable base from which to go birding ... and plenty of opportunities to relax between adding species to your world list - although the staff do try to encourage different birds onto their bird tables. The lodge has some first class bird guides.
A friend and I, both birders, spent 4 nights here and it was just great. The birds, needless to say, are fantastic -- and they're everywhere. Also butterflies, the occasional agouti, and a couple of red squirrels who steal the bananas from the feeding station. The food is decent, served buffet style 3x day, and a pretty good wine is part of your meal. Sitting on the terrace in the evening was wonderful, with the night sounds all around. We weren't as far from "civilization" as we thought we'd be; you can hear the road occasionally, but the vegetation and grounds are beautiful. There are so many birds around the Lodge that it was hard to get ourselves off in the morning to go out with the (excellent) guides. The ride up from the airport was easy, despite traffic in the city. It's easy, gorgeous, just luxurious enough, and pretty much perfect for observing nature. There often wasn't an office person who spoke English, that's about the only drawback for non-Spanish speakers. Highly recommended.…
Just returned from a week-long visit and can't rave enough about this place. Facility and food were top-notch, but its greatest asset is its people. The care that they have for their guests is the best. Each guide was an expert in finding birds and whistling them in for a closer look. They were as enthusiastic as we were to see each species. Tino, Danilo Sr., and Danilo Jr became just like family to us. My travel companion unfortunately had a little mishap resulting in a broken arm. Guide Eliecer spent 7-8 hours with us locating an equipped hospital, and provided translation services. Carlos Bethancourt even phoned our hotel at the airport the morning of our departure to follow up. I will be back for sure!
This place is a birders paradise. It is an all exclusive with lodging, meals and bird guides. This is a beautiful place for people to see amazing birds with exceptional guides who know the birds of this area, their calls and places they hang out. The meals are so delicious and the place amazingly friendly, the staff makes you feel at home and comfortable. A must do here in Panama. 5 star all the way.
The hospitality at Canopy Lodge is flawless. Even though I had traveled to the lodge by myself, I never felt alone. The (delicious) meals were shared with others at the table, and knowledgeable guides made every trip to the field a treat. During my time between Canopy Lodge and Canopy Tower, I saw more than 300 species of birds, in about 8 days! Both locations are absolutely perfect for birders, and non-birders as well. The lodge especially was a relaxing location by the river with many flowers and trees to enjoy just from the lodge or the balcony of their well appointed rooms. I have traveled quite a bit, and have seldom experienced such warm hospitality. I would return in a heartbeat.
The lodge has an idyllic location in the mountains surrounded by beautiful woods and gardens. The birding and wildlife viewing opportunities are excellent, the accommodation was extremely comfortable, and the staff is outstanding. Their health and safety protocols are excellent, and nothing about the current situation detracted in the least from the enjoyment of my visit. I would return any time.
Sleeping room large and comfortable with our own patio - also quiet. Hosts and meals were excelent. Tour guides and tour locations were great. Certainly got our value from the stay. Would love to come back some day.
Canopy Lodge is an amazing place to be. Especially if you love birds & nature. Beautiful lodge surrounded by an amazing canopy of tropical trees. Just two hours from Panama City but way more cooler, because it is at higher elevation. The surroundings are spectacular and there's a lot of great birds to be seen at the feeders in the gardens. Great trips in the surroundings as well. Tino was my guide at the lodge. Excellent guide with the best of knowledge. As a photographer I could take amazing pictures of the coloured birds in the region. It was my last destination in Panama but definitely a very memorable one!
