If I was a serious birder looking for particular birds for my life list, I would probably give this place a 5. But we are amateur birders and found it pleasant but extremely expensive for what you get. It cost us about $700/night for a couple. Because we failed to read the

The Canopy Lodge is a total immersion experience in beauty, nature and birding with expert guides in an ideal setting. The grounds of the lodge are extensive, the room I was in was large and led to the outdoors and the natural swimming pool was delightful. The food was amazing,

The Lodge itself is lovely situated surrounded by green, lush forest. From their terrace, you can in great comfort observe de feeding platform and the birds, including agutis and different kind of squirrels. The birding tour they offer has a ridiculous price tag ($ 80/person,

We have traveled to Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Ecuador, but we keep coming back to Panama and the Canopy Family's Lodge. Of all their places (Canopy Tower, Canopy Camp, and Canopy Lodge), the lodge is our favorite. Outstanding birding with our guide Tino Sanchez who is

We stayed here as part of a pre-organized birding group following three nights at the Canopy Tower near Panama City (see separate review). The Lodge is a picturesque place, reached by crossing a footbridge over a rushing stream. All of the common areas are open-air, which is

Whale season in Panama is from July to the very beginning of October. The Canopy Lodge is located up in the foothills, and while we do venture down to the coast once in a while, we do not offer specific whale-watching tours. There are, however, several companies based in Panama City that offer excellent whale-watching excursions during the season in which the whales are passing through Panama.

Meals are casual dress and you will have plenty of time to get freshened up after arriving from the tours. As mentioned, we enjoy a relaxed atmosphere at mealtimes in the open-air dining room on the veranda. Thank you for your question!

Yes! All tours operated out of the Canopy Lodge can be arranged upon arrival. Local attractions can be visited as well, some charge a small admission fee, which can be paid in cash directly at the attraction you wish to visit. Thank you for your question.

I too have mobility problems so I stayed behind while my husband went birding. I had a wonderful, relaxing time, watching the birds from the lounge area and our room, and swimming daily in the beautiful natural swimming pool. I had a taxi take me into town one day for a brief shopping excursion and also visited the butterfly sanctuary. You may want to request a ground floor room to avoid the stairs to the second floor.
