Just returned from a 3-night stay here and we loved it. The lodge itself, the tours, the BIRDS! All amazing. Before I say anything else, I have to say that our guide, Tino, is one of the most incredible human beings on the planet. We saw over 100 species of birds in 2.5 days, and it never would’ve happened without Tino. He can hear hundreds of different sounds and tell you which bird made each one. At one point, we heard a teeny tiny peep at the side of the road (amidst hundreds of other bird sounds). Tino was able to tell us, before we saw it, not only what species of hummingbird made that sound, but also that it was a juvenile. Sure enough, deep in the leaves a few minutes later we found that exact kind of hummingbird feeding a juvenile of the same species. And then, as if that weren’t enough, he can make the sounds back himself! Numerous times we were treated to a “concert” between Tino and different species of birds — him mimicking their call so perfectly that the bird would sing it right back to him, and come looking for him, so that we’d have ample opportunity to glimpse it before it realized he wasn’t really an [insert species here]. He fooled the sound ID feature on the Merlin app countless times. Beyond that, his knowledge of the birds was phenomenal - their names, songs, behaviors, breeding and non-breeding plumage, habitats, favorite trees/plants. He could see one for just a tenth of a second flying by in a flash and tell you everything about it. Tino is just an all around astonishingly brilliant guide, and we were so lucky to have him with us! The lodge itself is beautiful. The grounds are beautiful and lush with incredible landscaping, and the natural pool is just divine. It’s not a luxury resort with a spa, fancy restaurant, etc., but it’s definitely luxurious for an ecolodge (we’ve stayed at them before in Belize, and this measures up to the best of them). Clean, comfortable, spacious, and ultra relaxing. If you’re coming here to be entertained by something other than birds and wildlife, you may be out of luck. This isn’t where you come to sit at the hotel bar (there isn’t one) and party into the night (breakfast is at 6:30 am so we can leave in time to see birds, so we’re in bed early!). But if you want a chill, relaxing, birding-centered trip, you can’t get better than this. You’re surrounded by nature and sounds of the forest (bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper and hearing a frog’s mating call all night isn’t your thing, ha). There are ample cozy spots to lounge in between tours. You could easily just sit on the chairs on the patio and see a ton of birds at the feeder, which the staff always keeps well stocked with tasty treats for the birds, agoutis and squirrels! The food was always tasty and the staff was sweet and attentive. The owner Raul was visible every day and was incredible to talk to! His love of the lodge and all the Canopy Family properties comes through when he speaks, and it is so endearing. The whole trip felt as though we were staying with family we never knew we had. We had a ground floor room with a balcony. It was huge and had great space for storing all our gear. Our water in the showers was hot within minutes, no different from many other places where it takes a couple minutes to warm up. Most importantly for me, the rooms were astonishingly bug-free! Don’t know how they managed that in the middle of the jungle, with a wall of screened-in windows, but kudos to them! All in all, I loved it here. Would go back in a heartbeat. If you’re a birder, you should just book it now. It was amazing!

We just returned from an amazing adventure at Canopy Lodge. The lodge is tucked away on a mountain in the jungle about 2 hrs from the Tocuman International Airport in Panama City. We were picked up at the airport and transported to the lodge in a clean comfortable van. We crossed the bridge over the Panama Canal on the way. The grounds of the lodge are luscious and breathtaking with a stream flowing through the property and a feeding station that each attracts a variety of tropical birds. Our room (Tres) was spacious and clean. There is no air conditioning which was a concern for us, but we didn’t miss it. The large fan and open-screened windows kept us very cool. The beds were very comfortable. There is a large balcony for viewing nature right outside your room. The bathroom was clean and had a very large shower. Nearby was the restaurant and gathering area. The food was delicious and healthy (great cake at dinner!). They cater to special diets. We had the Birding package and had 4 very full days of birding in different areas with very knowledgeable guides. (Danilo Jr & Sr, Eliecer, and Tino were outstanding!). We saw almost 200 different species of birds including tiny hummingbirds, owls, tanagers, motmots, cuckoos, toucans, hawks, and so much more. We also saw lots of butterflies, agoutis, and a cute 3 -toed sloth. The Canopy Adventure with zip lines is nearby if you are looking for more excitement. All of the guides and staff were very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. The small capacity and setup of the lodge promotes interaction with other guests. We enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and had fun making new friends. It was a great experience and we cannot wait to return!

Canopy Lodge is a first-class bird-watching location, with a friendly and helpful staff, superb guides (Danilo was our guide), and clean and spacious rooms. The staff took extra care to meet the dietary needs of the guests, including me. There is a tight, well-organized daily schedule that helps you to maximize bird-watching excursions. My husband and I saw about 180 species of birds in five days, most of which were new to me. Food was plentiful, simple, and tasty. We had some minor issues with hot water a couple of times (once it turned icy cold as I was rinsing my hair), and be aware that while WiFi is available in the rooms, it is strongest in the common areas. It was the trip of a lifetime, and I would highly recommend a visit. We will try to return at some point in the future!

Our trip was amazing! The lodge and rooms are beautiful, the food was great (if you have dietary restrictions they are very good at accommodation with variety) and the staff were professional and great. Our guide was absolutely amazing at finding and identifying birds. We saw +230 bird species over 6 days along with sloths, agoutis, basilisks, frogs. Our trip was during the protests and Canopy was able to transfer us back and forth from Panama City before 6:00am when the highway was open. Can’t recommend or speak more highly of, you’re in good hands. Will be back in the future to stay at Canopy Tower!

Canopy Lodge is the place to go for a sublime birding experience in Panama. The location in steep, lush valley next to stream makes fir a jungle like feel with alot of birds to be seen! Our group came with Nature Ninja Tours and our guides Tiffany and Danilo (Canopy guide) were so incredible. we saw 223 bird species in 5 days, several of which are quite rare to see. Rooms are open air with screen opening high up on walls, which brings jungle and stream sounds, which I will miss! It included all meals prepared by Lodge and food was exceptional. Highly recommend!

We have birded all over the world, and we found the Canopy Lodge to be one of the very best destinations we’ve ever experienced. The lodge is great — nice accommodations, super clean, well maintained. And the food is great. But the people make the place even more remarkable. The staff attend to any need. The guides see and hear birds that you can barely imagine anyone noticing. And all of them do it with a generous mindset — it’s not just friendliness; it’s their happiness to be sharing their beautiful home country with you. We will be back. And you should go too. It will be one of the highlights of your traveling life.

Amazing grounds in forest with birds everywhere. Good food. Rooms with beautiful views. Staff professional, helpful and excellent guides to see the grounds and look for wildlife. They put out fruit and hummingbird feeds to watch local birds, squirrels, etc. Not really a place for kids. Creek filled pool in the forest for hot days.

First off, we were on a birding mission and our top priority was to have good guides. We were not disappointed at all, all of the guides we had were outstanding. Most particularly Tino who was not only fabulous on birds but also butterflies. A nice combo as one of our party was really into butterflies. The lodge did a nice job of setting a variety of all day trips with picnics and half day trips with lunches at lodge. Fair amount of driving to specific birding hotspots and some nice, pretty easy, hikes. The birding was excellent on the beautiful grounds. Rooms were comfortable. Only reason not five dots is food, while good, was not special. The staff were all very welcoming and efficient. Airport transfers were spot on which is always a relief. All in all a very nice way to spend seven nights and would highly recommend.

Beautifully situated property surrounded by nature. Canopy Lodge is a birder’s paradise and offers very well appointed rooms, excellent food and top notch customer service. The guide staff is the best in the business and is extremely knowledgeable and great to work with. My wife and I were fortunate to meet the owner and his family and they are amazing people that have been at the forefront of nature conservation and education in Panama. This property is a gem that shouldn’t be missed!

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our package with the Canopy family. It is a luxurious lodge and the room was just beautiful. In the midst of beautiful gardens, lots of bird feeders with various birds visiting, well kept trails within the gardens to wander around on, a well built tree house and a fascinating stream that gurgles quietly at times and turns into a torrent of water with rocks crashing in it as they get displaced during heavy downpours...... it is all a magical experience. The rooms are clean, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The communal seating areas are also very well appointed and comfortable. Our only negative here was that the food was great on some days and very average or uninteresting on some days, especially when the effort to provide a dessert on one day was simply sliced papaya. As a world class eco lodge with great guides and birding, superb rooms and a stunning setting, we expected the food to match this level. Yet we would go back again as the focus was not the food but the birds. The trip to the beach for waders and raptors was a well organised amazing day.
