Our stay was a birthday gift from my partner. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed. As the hotel wasn’t busy they were nice enough to upgrade our room. The room was amazing, fantastic view, extremely clean, very comfortable bed!!! I had a massage during our stay and the spa was great. Extremely clean and modern. The masseuse was very friendly and professional. All in all we really felt well looked after, lots of small gestures to ensure I had a fantastic birthday. Highly recommended!!!
I booked this hotel for 4 nights in July 2020 to visit the area with my husband and 2 children. The cost of the only room left for the 4 of us was €470 without breakfast. This is the worst place I have been ever in terms of service. First morning, after breakfast I went to the reception which was empty and waited for 20 minutes until someone showed up. By then a queue of 12 people had formed behind me, a group of 6 men and three couples, all waiting to check-out and pay. Finally a woman arrived and I offered to let the 12 people go ahead of me as they wanted to check-out whereas I just wanted to ask for information about sightseeing. The receptionist, who I found out was the daughter of the owners, just replied « yes, the others need to go first». No please or thank you. I waited about 30-40 minutes and when it was my turn instead of telling me « thank you for waiting and letting people go ahead of you », I was faced with a cold, rude and arrogant attitude. The receptionist refused to answer my questions about sightseeing and first wanted to make sure i was having dinner at the hotel, which I said yes to. I asked what activities to prioritise for my kids during our 4 days and she replied that she did not need to answer me, that she was not a concierge, that I was being rude not her, and that anyway we wouldn’t be able to do any activities as we hadn’t booked in advance. So I left to my room with no information whatsoever. We decided to leave the hotel the next day instead of staying 4 nights. I refuse to pay for such service and attitude and no one should. The room was €470 a night not inclusive of breakfast for being treated in such a manner. Furthermore when we arrived late at night the first night and went to our rooms (there is no night service or person, the keys are left on your door), although the room was renovated and quite nicely decorated, it was infested with small flies, everywhere, by the bed, pillows, stairs, hundreds of them. I spent a long time chasing them and getting rid of them so there about 50 to 70 dead flies on the floor. When they made our bedroom the next day, the flies hasn’t been removed! So we had to tell them to va yum the floors. Finally the owner or mother of the receptionist who took our dinner order at night in the restaurant was also cold and arrogant. They made no effort to please or make you feel welcome. And the restaurant was mediocre in terms of food. Luckily, the restaurant staff was polite and helpful. In resume, the owners of this place are rude, arrogant and represent the worst of French service cliche. I am French and I honestly think service has improved tremendously in France in the hospitality sector in last 20 years. Clearly not here. The owners have themselves no hospitality training and they treat you like they are doing you a favour. In general I feel like there is very scarce hospitality offering in this regional and hence clients/tourists are captive of what’s on offer, which is poor on average. The positives were: Beautiful views and location We paid for our 2 nights but not for the 2 nights that we cancelled when we left. We decided to leave to a place I know and love, Terres Blanches, an hour and a half away. So we had to leave Gorge du Verdon which we could only visit partially in the end. But at least the service in Terres Blanches as well as the amenities are fantastic, well worth the cost. I don’t think anyone should spend any money on such a place, ever. …
The infrastructures are really in great conditions and family friendly. We loved the playground, the swimming pool and the SPA. The room was nice and the location is perfect to visit the Gorges du Verdon. The service was however disappointing. Arriving mid afternoon and the "receptionist" was actually also the waitress. She was serving drinks when I arrived and after few minutes she told me she was coming. We were three different families waiting for check-in. She had to rush it to not make it worst for each of us so very hard to understand her. The first impressions wasn't very nice. For the dinner, it was the opposite in terms of staff with 4 different persons and a high level of stress. We had the impression they wanted to kick us out as soon as possible. On top of that, value for money for the dinner is poor so I strongly suggest to eat outside or in your room like we did a couple of times after this first experience. It's a family business which has some positive elements but not only as we can see when the "alpha" owner is around. This person is micro-managing her team and we had a couple of pretty unpleasant interaction with her. For example she was finishing a conversation with us whilst walking away or answering behind me to a question I asked one staff member. I do understand the special circumstances of this period, but still, not very pleasant to have someone like that around. On the other hand, the other owner is very friendly and will give you great tips in the area.…
After the Covid-19 confinement, this was the first hotel where we stayed one night. The hotel is perfectly located to visit the Gorges du Verdon, just outside La Palud sur Verdon. The hotel has ample parking space, welcome was very friendly and the place seems renovated recently. We had a "Observatoire" room, which was not big, but had beautiful views of la Palud and the surrounding landscape. A little private balcony and the bed placed is such way that one can see the mountains from the bed. Open plan bathroom, glass shower. So, even from the shower one can admire the mountains. Missing in the shower a possibility to place your own shower products. Separate toilet. Please note that the bathroom does not offer any privacy, so this room might not suited for everybody. The room had coffee/tea facilities, a safe and an ironboard, TV (who wants a TV in these beautiful surroundings) and a minifridge. So, although compact, the room has all one needs for a short stay. The room was clean, very modern (maybe a bit too urban for this specific hotel) and wifi was fine. We had a 3-course dinner at night. Unfortunately, it was too windy to sit on the lovely terrace, but we had a table at the big glass windows, so enjoyed the sight during dinner. The choice of food was fine, fresh, more than sufficient, tasty, quite nicely presented, staff friendly. So, nothing to complain about, just a simple, nice dinner if you don't expect high gastronomic cuisine. Breakfast next morning was fine. Because of the Covid-measures, there was no buffet, but we still had a large choice of bread, marmelades, cheese, eggs, ham, fruit and orange juice. All of that at the terrace with the beautiful landscape. We did not have time to try the pool or spa, so cannot comment on that. The pool area does not seem very big, but guess it is enough to have a quick dip after a day exploring the Gorges du Verdon. There is also a playground for children, a bit separated from the pool area. A small shop with local products is located in the reception area. We enjoyed all the decoration with sheep wearing sunglasses or painted red. We definitively did not like the pitch black corridor that leads to the rooms. Question of taste, of course, but a bit brighter colour would look far more inviting to us. All in all, we definitively recommend this hotel and the restaurant, but do think the price is a bit high for the size of the rooms. Therefore 4 points instead of 5. Do try to find time to drive the "Route des Crètes" that starts about 1 km from the hotel. Either by car, motorbike or bycicle, this 23 km route is absolutely awesome.…
