Grand Hotel Cadenabbia garners mixed reactions, with guests frequently lauding its prime location and the breathtaking lake views it offers. Visitors appreciate the pristine cleanliness of the rooms, although some consider the rooms and amenities to be somewhat outdated and not offering good value for money. While the 1950s atmosphere adds a traditional charm, opinions on the service vary from extremely courteous to disappointingly impolite. Despite its scenic setting, many suggest the hotel could benefit from modernization.

We spent two nights at the majestic hotel right on Lake Como.
Entering the lobby you feel like 30/40 years ago.......... grand staircase and lots of old furniture, pictures, statues etc..............
Our room had a great view onto the lake. The room itself is fairly small and so is the bathroom. The bathroom is badly light and makes it difficult to shave or put on some make up.
The balcony is open to the next room which felt a little strange as you do not know who lives next door and you may want to leave the window door open at night.
The beds however are very comfortable and it is very quiet at night despite the main road passing the hotel.
The Restaurant offers a variety of fabulous dishes. The setting outside with the view over the lake is very romantic. Thank you to Giuseppe, the waiter for his professional and friendly service.
Plenty of free parking on the side of the hotel.
Villa Carlotta and the jetty for trips on the lake are about 5 min walk.
Overall a good hotel with parking and lake view at a reasonable rate.

The hotel is rather dated with bedrooms in need of renovation (but comfortable nonetheless) however the hotel is in a great location with stunning views from the 4th floor terrace. Food and breakfast service could be better (recognising that there is a general shortage of staff) however service on the 4th floor terrace was very good and friendly. Another great plus point is the swimming pool which is excellent with plenty of sun loungers however please be careful when using the loungers around the swimming pool as during our stay we saw these collapse 5 times and caused some injuries including to my wife. Please ensure that the legs are fully secured before using. We did raise our safety concerns with the hotel who despite saying that there had been no previous issues agreed that they needed to review the safety of these further. The sunloungers on the terrace were a different type and safer. Overall we had a fantastic stay with the hotel very conveniently located for the various ferry services nearby. There are some very good restaurants nearby our favourites being Bar Victoria and Red and White. We wouldn't hesitate to come back.

We had a week of pure relaxation and indulgence at this hotel. We pushed the boat out and booked a junior suite and it was worth every penny. We had a superb view over looking the lake and a more than ample sized balcony in which to sit and enjoy the view with a drink and good book.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the bath and separate shower was a nice change.
The pool area is especially nice. A nice place to relax and unwind.
Breakfast is fair but given the covid situation at the moment, the hotel is doing its best to cater for all guests.
The hotel is ideally located for trips to Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. A trip to Como itself is about an hour on a bus for 10 euros each.
Rodrigues is a great pizza and pasta restaurant just around the corner and so reasonable priced! A great stay and would recommend.

We checked in only a few hours ago and we are NOT off to a good start- we checked in and got our key, went up and our room was sweltering. Turned on the AC, or so I thought, and left for dinner.

We came back 2 hours later to find the AC never kicked in and the room feels like the fifth circle of hell. I called the front desk and they said they’d send someone up to fix the AC, and that certain rooms on certain floors were having AC related electrical issues.

Fine.

I waited 30 minutes with the doors open (getting a ton of bugs in the room in the meantime), then finally went down to the front desk to see what the hold up is. After 30+ hours of travel I wanted to just go to bed. The front desk girls acted surprised that no one had been up to the room to address the issue. I told them we’d do anything to get AC, including downgrade our room (we’re in a superior lakefront with balcony), just to get AC for the night, and I was told the property is sold out.

One of the girls then made “a call” and when she got off the phone she said, “it’s a whole hotel issue and it would be fixed in 23 minutes.” She told me the workers were literally on the roof fixing the problem. I said fine. I went upstairs and texted a friend who is staying at the same property (we’re all here for a wedding), and she said her AC is just fine. Her room is a balmy 68 degrees and the AC is blowing just fine.

So what is the case? It apparently is not a whole hotel issue, it’s just my room, so why create such a story? It’s been another hour and still no AC. The balcony doors cannot be left open overnight, the bugs are intense, plus the upstairs bar has live music playing, and the road noise is really loud because we’re on the second floor.

If they are having issues with certain rooms, either tell us at check in so we can request a different room, request a fan, and leave the doors open while we’re at dinner- or here’s a new one- don’t sell the room. Also, maybe don’t tell a guest it’s the whole hotel to get me to go upstairs, when I’m here with a group and can easily find out that’s not the case.

Dear ,EricaM1985 Thank you for your review following your recent stay. I am sincerely sorry to hear of your disappointment and I wish to offer my sincere apologies to you. It is very rare that we receive negative feedback about AC. the problem of the air conditioning was general, but in some rooms it continued to work because the cooling system is divided into compartments Should there be an opportunity, we do hope that you will consider returning for a future visit. In the meantime, thank you again for your comments. Yours sincerely, Dan reception

I stayed here last week for seven days. Looking at the reviews on Tripadviser, I was not expecting anything great, hence my review. What a surprise. I really could not complain about anything. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable, bed linen was of very high quality, water warm at all times. We did not book a lake view room as we were on tour and gone early every morning and just back on time to have shower and dinner. However, Lae View rooms looked lovely but you would need to be staying/using the room to justify price. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Dinner was also good, a self service salad at the start that had every conceivable thing, the only problem was leaving room for the 2nd and third course. There was also a choice of deserts. The dining room was beautiful overlooking Lake Como. The pool area which I only got to on the final day of my holiday had plenty of beds and also comfortable places in the shade as it was very warm. Very disappointing to read such negative reviews of what I considered a very good hotel. I recommend this hotel without hesitation.

I was so happy I picked this hotel as when reading some of the reviews thought about changing, we would have missed out. Our lake view room had a lovely furnished balcony with a view to die for, yes there is a road underneath but at night if you shut the shutters there is little noise. The rooms are not modern it is old style grand charm and spotlessly clean. We loved the restaurant views, floor to ceiling windows, four courses every evening, we could always find something we liked, lovely outside terrace with pavilion and beautiful gardens and pool with towels and bag provided, air con worked in the room, fridge, robes slippers and all you could need bathroom wise. All staff were lovely with us very helpful especially in the dining room where they all worked very hard. First night we arrived there was a wedding but it ended at 10pm did not disturb our meal or sleep. Enjoyed the bar and occasional piano or harpist. Bus stops outside and ferry terminal 5 mins, adjacent shops handy and villa carlotta next door a must visit. We would return no problem, we booked with tui half board and it was good value for money. It has been a very grand Hotel in its day and still has authentic italian decor and furniture which added to its charm for us.

Stayed for a week in June 2022. Lovely hotel, nice staff, good food. We had a room with view of lake and balcony. More expensive but well worth it.

We were on an organised trip so ate in hotel each morning and evening. Breakfast was superb. Huge buffet and great selection. Dinner was also great. Fantastic open buffet plus a superb fixed menu. Cannot fault the food or service. The terrace and bar cannot be beat for the view of the lakes and prices are extreme good for drinks.
Nice pool as well. The only fault with the hotel was the Wi-Fi internet connection which just did not work at all.

There is air conditioning but it was struggling when temp went up to 34c so don’t know how it would cope with higher temps. Foyer was always cool and very comfortable though.

Hotel location is perfect for ferries to see the lake towns and the local C10 bus service is cheap and comfortable.

All in all a really good hotel and a perfect holiday experience.

We stayed as part of a Adagio holiday. Hotel on main road overlooks the lake. Quite glitzy and ornate main sitting area. Breakfast help yourself with a large array of fruit, salads, yoghurts, juices, cold meat and cheeses. If possible go early and eat on the terrace

Evening meal, first course choice of different salads, meats, fish and cheese then main course options and choice of different desserts. Drinks expensive

Large pool which needs more umbrellas as it's very hot, again get there early.

Hotel well served by local buses towards Como and ferries from Cadenabbia and Viloa Carlotta, where you can go to many of the lakeside towns and gardens

Incredible location. 4 minute walk to the lake taxis to local towns like Bellagio or Varenna but you don’t have to stand on line for an hr to make sure you get on the taxi from these crowded towns. The views from the hotel of the towns of Bellagio and Varenna are beyond compare whether from lake view balcony rooms or the restaurant or bar. Service was excellent and concierge tried hard to make local reservations at other nearby restaurants and local boat tours. Meals were good although smart choice of entre is important. There are also some great little bistros a short walk away like the Bar Vitoria right on the lake. Prices fair including wine selection. Our only complaint was lack of good air conditioning in our room during a very hot August week. But we couldn’t bring ourselves to change rooms and give up our phenomenal view. If not for that, this would be a 5 star review!

Not great, but not terrible. We upgraded to a lake view room - which was exactly what it said on the tin - but the room itself was very small for a double room and wasn’t really worth the upgrade in our opinion.

The hotel itself was generally clean and tidy and for the most part the staff were pleasant, save for one evening when the hotel was hosting a wedding and we had to ask a question of the receptionist. We were asked by quite a rude man to leave the reception area as that is where wedding guests had decided to gather. We had to politely remind him we were paying guests at the hotel and had as much right to be at reception asking questions as the wedding guests did.

We were travelling with a group and the hotel had been given dietary requirements for vegetarians and allergies etc., which for most nights they were very accommodating with; however, on the night of the wedding, when down at dinner there were no vegetarian options for the main meal - which should have been prepared for us as we had paid for them. When we questioned this we were told that “no vegetarian meals were made because of the wedding party…” and the waiter laughed. When we told him that we needed food, he laughed again and walked off. When the tour manager raised this with the Maître’d, he told her the same thing: they hadn’t made any vegetarian meals because they were too busy with the wedding. She stated that wasn’t good enough to which he laughed, shrugged, and then walked off.

Later that evening, while we were in bed, the hotel decided the wedding party could let off fireworks at midnight which woke us all up.

It was clear at that point that this was a hotel who would throw guests under the bus in favour of whoever seemed to be more important to them at the time.

Although not the fault of the hotel, Cadenabbia also has absolutely nothing to do in the day or night, so we generally had to get the ferry over to Bellagio which was nicer, had lots to do, and a better atmosphere.

So the combination of the two things made us vow not to go back.
