Detailed Reviews
Arrived a greeted by Steve. Very nice man and extremely accommodating knowledgeable of the area and offered recommendations. Lodge upon arrival seemed adequate but after the novelty of being away from home wore off the niggly bits and poor finishing touches began to annoy and discovered the lodge wasn't as clean as first thought. Everything that was supposed to have a shine on had dried wet marks like someone had cleaned with a sopping wet cloth. Windows, mirrors, cooker, gloss kitchen cabinets and even tv screens. Appliances and accessories were cheap tat. Lime scale in the kettle, blunt knives, tin opener cogs rusted and didn't work and non stick peeling off pans. Fridge was broken with no shelf dishwasher was mouldy and smelly. Lime scale all over the chrome shower heads mould on bathroom sealant, tiny mirrors in the bathrooms. No bathroom bins (absolute sin). Bedroom pillows flat as pancakes as was the duvet and mattress was horrendous. The outside decking was rotten literally rotted holes in places with railings that rocked when touched. Would collapse with the slightes amount of pressure god forbid if someone reaches for support. Cobwebs all over the exterior and in desperate need of a good jet wash and painting. Hot tub was small for a 6 person lodge and the only lodge I've stayed in where the pH levels weren't checked daily and I've been in enough to know that the clean water cycle or filters weren't working properly. Its kind of out the way and nothing to do around thats within walking distance. Cost us £1000 for a week here and ive stayed in much better for far less. Wouldn't recommend staying under its current conditions. Needs money and a lot of TLC thrown at it desperately.

We stayed in Cedar lodge for a couple of nights with a 4 and 1 yo. There were only 2 other lodges and a house to stay in so it’s pretty quiet (even with a party going on at the opposite lodge 😄)
Our lodge was very spacious, TV’s in the bedrooms as well as the smart TV in the living room. The kitchen was well kitted out (take washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets/clothes etc.)
Although the beds were pretty comfy, I think beds and bedding need to be refreshed. Both bathrooms were spacious and clean, they both have baths and showers.
The whole lodge does feel like it needs a spruce up and a bit of attention to the little details (and please, someone vacuum under the beds!) but for the cost it’s good value for money!
It’s a lovely quiet area, definitely need to have your own transport to get about!
I’m not sure if you’re told in confirmation emails (I didn’t make the booking) but there isn’t a reception area to go to when you arrive, you need to ring up to let someone know you’re there and they also ask for £100 cash deposit on arrival.

Arrived at 5pm and was questioned straight away about them not having dogs booked on the form (we paid for 2 dogs) and requested £100 security deposit in cash, we were aware we need to make a security deposit but we’re not told that it needed to be in cash so had to take a trip out to a cash machine.
Once we’d got unpacked and started putting things away, we soon realised quite a few errors with cleanliness. Plates in the cupboards that still had food on, dogs hairs on the bedding, a pair of knickers and a bra that were left in a draw, all the mugs were completely stained and we didn’t feel comfortable drinking out of them so had travel to the supermarket to buy some mugs. It made us wonder if it had even been looked at/cleaned after the previous family had left.
The owner then returned for the deposit and we politely made her aware of the issues that we had with the cleanliness, when we made her aware of the dog hairs on the bed she said ‘well there can’t be any because they have been cleaned’ - so we had to show her a photo that was taken when we arrived.
When it came to leaving on the Monday morning, she questioned again the fact that we had two dogs and that we had only paid for one, I offered to ring the travel agents that I had booked through to provide evidence but she said it was fine and that she won’t charge us due to the cleanliness issues we had (although I had already paid for the dog so not exactly doing us a favour). The owner then returned for a 2nd time again to question the 2nd dog - I offered again to ring the travel agents To provide evidence of payment but she said it was fine.
The actual area of the lodge was beautiful, very peaceful and quiet, and we did have a good weekend, however I don’t think we would return due to the number of cleanliness issues, especially given the current circumstance with COVID, we were expecting the cleaning to be on point.

I don’t know where to start with this place! The place is generally looking dilapidated! The most obvious thing that hit us upon entering the lodge was the overwhelming smell of drains/sulphur that they had tried to mask this stench with plug in air fresheners and an air purifier…unfortunately if we opened the windows this attracted flies in the dozens. As we looked around we found that the level of cleaning/hygiene was very poor so straight away I had to clean as there was food scraps in the cupboards from previous guests, food remnants spilt down kitchen cupboards and on the kick-boards by the floor. The pots and pans are very old and the non stick has gone meaning left over food was stuck to them, plates and glasses had to be put the dishwasher as again there were previous guests food remnants visible. The utility room was very smelly and once again remnants from previous guests products were left in the draining board, work top including tumble drier lint. In the bedrooms the overall feel was place was dusty, dirty and generally felt unkempt, there are handles missing off drawers with screws exposed, cobwebs in the windows and around the lights, wardrobes etc. The pillows were so thin as they have been very well used and fit for the bin, the elastic has gone in the fitted sheets so the bedding does not stay on (same in all 3 bedrooms), in 1 of the bedrooms there’s a hole in the wall from the door handle. In the lounge the sofa was held together with gaffer tape and numerous iron on patches, there are several windows and doors where the double glazed units seals have failed so they have condensation/cloudy look inside them. The remaining furniture generally looks tatty and scratched up. On the outside the lodge is caked in spiderwebs that could easily be cleaned up with a brush, the decking is in need of care as it’s green and varnish has all but gone. We suspect the hot tub had the incorrect levels of chemicals being used as we all had a a feel of having bleach on our hands etc after using it and some of us had skin irritation as a result so stopped using it. We were unable to use the main entrance to the lodge as it is awaiting repair however this to me is a fire exit as the only other door is in the kitchen/lounge which is generally a higher risk area for fires, I feel this needs fixing ASAP however I suspect it may stay like that for weeks if not months before it is repaired judging by the faded hand written note on the door. The recycling and general waste bins were overflowing and not emptied for the 7 days we were there.
This place has potential but is in need of a massive overhaul internally and externally to make it warrant the amount it costs to stay here.

Do not be fooled by the pictures we stayed in Oak lodge and soon after we arrived it was very clear how grubby and out dated the cabin was. It was definitely not cleaned to a high standard, if it was cleaned at all. The plates and glasses were dirty the beds had hairs in and after lifting back bed sheets you could see all the stains on the mattress. The double bed was broken and dipped in the middle making it very uncomfortable. There was no bath matt so the floors so got very wet! No soap in the bathrooms or even any cleaning products which in these times is very poor, even just a kitchen spray. The lodge was for 6 people and after the first night we had to ask for the water to be topped up in the hot tub we were told that all 6 of us shouldn’t get in at the same time. It should be big enough for 6 people if that’s how many the lodge sleeps. We did have extra guests in the form of bugs and if you are scared of them I would give this place a miss iv never seen so many flys, spiders, wasps, dad long legs I expect some been where you are but it was a joke the kitchen area was full of them. We had the lodge for 3 nights and only stayed 2 as we couldn’t wait to get back to our own homes. They are not very friendly and don’t expect a warm welcome! Also they will forget to mention that you need £100 cash deposit we got asked for it on arrival which none of us had on us (would have been nice to be told before we got there) if you do want to risk it make sure you pack your bug spray better still you will properly need to pack up and take the contents of your own home because it is pretty dire in the lodge.

Great value budget holiday.
Stayed Monday to Friday during the pandemic and we were just happy to get away for a few days. Greeted at the lodge by Steve who was very friendly and helpful.
The lodge itself wasn't the best we've stayed in and we would have thought that during lockdown the outside decking area would have been immaculate but it was all in desperate need of jet washing and staining. The hot tub was a bit dated and after 4 days of use with only two of us using it there was scum build up which was disappointing as we have a hot tub at home and never have this issue. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed and there's also a utility room with washing machine etc. The outside garden area is very spacious.
The bathrooms were very clean and fresh but absolutely tiny mirror and useless unless you're 6 feet tall. The bedding and pillows were poor quality and flat and bedroom furnishings could be much better, frayed lamp shades and a huge plank of wood missing inside the wardrobe so some of our belongings fell through it. No mirrors in the bedrooms, so take your own for drying and styling your hair or applying makeup.
You'll need a car to get about as there's nothing within walking distance.
All in all, it was nice to get away, but it needs money spending on the little touches to get us to return again.

Upon arrival nobody around, never saw the owner at all never saw anyone. 5pm came so we checked in to our own lodge as keys in the door.
First impression looked good.
After a cuppa tea and closer inspection the place hadn’t been cleaned there was no smell of cleaning products anywhere.
Pans / glasses etc all had to be washed as still people’s food and drink stains.
Bed was horrendous like an air bed in the main bedroom sheet had no elastic so got wrap up in it.
Shower in the main bedroom was scalding as thermostat on the side broken.
Furniture had seen better days.
Advertised washing machine and tumble dryer. Well tumble dryer fine washing machine didn’t work filled with water and that was it. So hand washing it was.
Hot tub leaked had a hole somewhere. Rang the owner and was told there’s a hose pipe fill it up with hot water and I’ll look at it. Well he never turned up so still leaks.
Please is just very tired and run down decking needs painting and so do lodges.
I would of thought been closed for so long this could of been done.
Was really looking forward to this break and such a disappointment.
Would we return no.

Close to Hornsea & within distance of Bridlington, the Ash Cottage was a lovely treat. We all had a lovely stay, arrived to a clean cottage, informative welcome who provided all information needed. There were flies in the cottage, however, it didn’t sour the stay or impact anything much. The hot tub was a lot bigger then what we usually have and everything was in working order. We had a lot of facilities such as a washing machine, dryer (which is very helpful when using the hot tub) dish washer etc. the upstairs is a little creaky and only noticeable at night when using the bathroom. It has a big enclosed gardens which we and our dogs appreciated greatly. We would definitely be returning. Thank you for a lovely weekend!

For the amount paid for the trip and based on other reviews for the lodges I had low expectations and told my friends about the mixed reviews, but we are all big believers in it’s the company that makes the trip so this didn’t bother us too much. Some of the choices for furnishings seem odd, for example in the oak lodge you have mirrors that are the size of a postage stamp in the bathroom placed quite high and no full length mirror at all, one bin in the property, no bathroom bins.
The lodge had about 7/8 remote controls none of which worked in a combination of some that had dead batteries, some that had no batteries and some that just straight up didn’t work even with new batteries. There were no pans large enough to cook for over 2 people either which seemed like an odd choice given the property sleeps 6.
There was no welcome pack of any description luckily the owner popped his head in so we were able to ask for the WiFi code but we had no contact numbers should we have had an issues.
I did think it odd that given we are coming out of a pandemic that there was no hand soap provided or sanitiser provided but I had expected this from previous reviews so we’d brought our own. There was also no spare / extra bin bags provided and no brown or green bin that we could locate and the recycling bins were already overflowing when we arrived on Friday.
The hot tub was lovely and we didn’t find it too chlorinated which was good, the dryer with a mind of its own that didn’t want to turn off however not so good, but still useful for drying towels and costumes before hot tub dips, as long as you remembered to turn it off manually after an hour or so.
However the pièce de résistance of our trip came Saturday when my partner decided he wanted to watch the football so one of our friends tried to hook his laptop up to the TV so he could use it as a second screen, as he looked behind the TV he said “there’s a hair extension here!” And pulled out a long blond hair extension that had somehow been flung behind there and missed by any sort of cleaning that had been done. I have included a picture of my friend with the hair extension to the review because honestly it was hilarious and we couldn’t stop laughing, I’d have rated this trip lower if it wasn’t for the free extension 😂

The lodge sits just off a country road, surrounded by fields which makes it such an ideal location if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The lodge itself was clean and offered everything we needed, the only downside was the lack of lighting in the garden area which made it hard to see the dog when he was out at night. A welcome pack would have been good, giving us an idea of where the bins etc were, but other than that we enjoyed our stay.
