After a great meal in the town, we returned at 1030 to the room to the boom, boom of the disco which sounded like it was directly...

A fantastic location in the heart of a busy and historic market town. The Bear Hotel offers excellent service and very reasonable value for money. We really enjoy our visits, the Bear is simply a super place to stay!

The Bear was everything a bride could wish for. The venue was outstanding and the staff provided exemplary service which added to the pleasure of a joyful occasion. The food was excellent and many of the wedding guest's commented on it. I would highly recommend the Bear as a wedding venue.

My husband and I have had lunch here many times but I would say that about 50% of the time something has gone wrong. On a few occasions things have been so bad that we have had a partial refund and whilst this may be considered a good thing we would prefere good prompt service. Such a shame when this...

My daughter and I stayed at The Bear for 1 night whilst visiting Atlantic College. The front of house staff were friendly and helpful (upgraded our room, booking taxis, etc). Lovley country hotel in a lovely village in Wales.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
