We drove from Vancouver through Keremeos and enjoyed the drive. When we arrived we enjoyed the comfort of our quaint motel. We did want the pool,.....but then there was the Covid. Made a nice little dinner one night, kitchenette had all the right utensils and extras,....enjoyed the peace of the area. The room was nice, and modern. The bathroom had a nice a shower. The owner shared a nice story,....I liked this place.
I recognize COVID has placed tremendous stress on many tourism business, but perhaps this could be a motivating factor to enhance service. Instead, the bare minimum was provided including: washrooms not cleaned (evidenced by the excessive scum in the toilets and lack of paper towels or soap for multiple days (...at the time I am writing this, the unit is still empty), no notification to adjustments of facilities (e.g. we could understand that the pool was closed due to physical distancing, however, this was not communicated in advance of our arrival and when asked, was met with a remark about not being able to afford it), generally - our brief interaction with staff/owners was cold, not the way to be welcomed to any establishment, especially within the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, the additional $10/night fee charged for a 5 year old to stay in a parking spot (yes, $70/night for an RV parking spot that did not have sufficient space to open an awning), could allow a business to place some printed/laminated signs to remind guests about physical distancing... however, if displacing such acknowledgement, the owners may feel the pressure to maintain the washrooms. On the note of the fee, do not believe the Expedia rate you see, advertising $69/night for the motel accommodation, there will be fine print. This place has a lot of potential and some simple enhancements would go along way: * changes to amenities, communicate before arriving (example: “Your health and safety is very important to us. As we, along with the entire province, work together to keep the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic flattened in BC and under the physical distancing recommendations provided by Interior Health and the Province of B.C., please be advised our pool will remain closed for the summer 2020 season. Your understanding is very much appreciated. We look forward to welcoming you to our garden and courtyard, and share in a memorable experience during your stay in Oliver.”) *clean the washrooms, at least twice a day. Or, once a day and post a sign indicating who to call if you feel this facility needs attention. * do not charge for a 5 year old. It is just tacky and negatively impacts families. While this may be in place to discourage families, do not portray yourself as being family friendly and advertise to the 60+ crowd. * if a picnic table in the courtyard is allocated for a particular RV site, simple leave a sign on the table communicating so versus inviting people into the courtyard and then asking them to move. I feel for businesses that have been significantly impacted by the pandemic and wish I could have more favourable things to stay. With that, I will leave you with the positives: The positives: * WiFi * Courtyard - the gardens are lovely * location - proximity to wineries and beaches…
Hidden Jem for sure. Hotel has been completely renovated. RV park grounds are beautiful. Owners Sherri and Nate are so helpful during tour stay. We normally bring our RV and family stays at the hotel. So convenient. There is even a RV on site that you can rent! Really nice pool area and only a few minutes to the beaches. Thanks Maple Leaf for a wonderful holiday. See you again next year!
The place may look a bit old from the outside. But the room that we got was fully renovated. We got a suite and it was a good value for money with complete kitchen supplies. It was clean and towels were adequate. The this is close enough to the town of oliver. Would stay here again. The attached pic is a view from the balcony. Beautiful
Our family has been coming to stay at this place every summer for the past 8 years. We absolutely love staying here! Over the years we have seen the Motel undergo renovations and improvements. The modern updated rooms are very clean and fresh. The Camground and Courtyard are kept very tidy. The bathrooms and showers very clean. The owners Nate and Sheri are super nice and very accommodating. They even offered to help visitors with parking their trailers/ RV's onsite. It is family friendly place and my kids love the pool! Surrounded by orchards you dont have far to walk for fresh fruit & veggies. Hands down (thumbs up 👍) THE best Motel & camground around Oliver. I always recommend this place to my friends and family. Thanks again for making our holiday stay enjoyable and we will be back next summer!…
