I stayed here with my nine year old son as an overnight stop, en route to Cornwall. I decided to stay here so my son could go swimming during our stay. The hotel is quite battered and desperately in need of a refurbishment but the staff were absolutely wonderful. They were all so friendly and welcoming and this definitely made...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the Cliffden Hotel. The Cliffden Hotel is a traditional seaside hotel nestling in 7 acres of mature gardens and offering a 14m indoor pool. We have begun a program of bedroom refurbishments, starting with the family rooms with glorious views of the sea from the balcony. The décor will...

Excellent three day break at this hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed - good service, good food and great rooms! It does very well exactly what is says it does and our fellow guests were great too. Planning to return as Teignmouth itself is a charming seaside resort and deserving of a second visit. Thank you to all the staff at the...

Having received information that this hotel may be sold off by Action For The Blind we took advantage of a 3 night B&B and evening meal offer. We found the hotel to be very good but also have the following observations:- - It is the first hotel I have ever stayed in where there wasn't a bed side table on...

Thank you very much for your review. Firstly the Cliffden is much less compact than the Windermere with another a further 12 guest rooms in a very different layout. The original hotel was increased in size in 2000 and designed taking into account the needs of visually impaired guests including access to fire exits. Vision hotels ensure that we never...

I go up to the cliffden about 3 times a year with my Dad who is a blindie, my cousin who is a half blindie and my brother who is a sightie. As a half blindie myself, I find the facilities at the cliffden very helpful and feel very at home there because of that. I have made loads of...

Came here for a 4 night break with family, one of whom is partially sighted. The hotel is easy to find and in a good location, lovely gardens and really near the sea front and town and used to be a private home at one time so is not purpose built for sight impaired guests. There is some dark wood...

I stayed here for a week in early September 2016. Some of the staff and volunteers were lovely and helpful and the location excellent, but overall my stay painted a picture of disorganisation, chaos and unprofessionalism. I had to make several phone calls to different staff members to book my stay to begin with as they could not calculate if...

Thank you for your review. I did speak with you twice during your stay. I explained that there had been a medical emergency during the early hours of one of the nights you stayed at the hotel. Otherwise the only movement in the hotel overnight would be guests walking back to their rooms, or leaving their rooms on departure. During...

Thank you for your review. Whilst we do offer some additional services at the Cliffden for blind and partially sighted guests, we welcome everyone whether visually impaired or not. The hotel nestles in 7 acres of mature gardens overlooking the promenade at Teignmouth. The ideal location for seaside lovers. I look forward to seeing you again in November.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Cliffden Hotel was built as a private House in 1815 for Sir John Strachan on 35 acres of grounds adjacent to the Dawlish Road. The original gardens were built in the Regency style gardens, with smooth lawns, shrubberies and trelliswork and wall-plants against the lower storey of the house. In 1988, the then current owner Dr Mules retired, he put Cliffden House up for sale with the understanding that it would be used for "greater good". The House was purchased by Guide Dogs for the blind and converted to a hotel which offer accommodation to both blind, sighted and partially sighted guests. The hotel now sits in 7 acres of landscaped gardens, and a short walk through these private grounds brings you to the glorious seafront at Teignmouth. ... more   less
