My sister had her wedding reception here last Saturday. What a fantastic place. The staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the service was impeccable. Our food was just superb. If they can produce food this good on mass for a wedding party it must be fantastic in the restaurant. 30 guests stayed the night and... More

Visited on Sunday afternoon with my husband we ordered the afternoon tea very nice it was to. Staff were friendly and attentive we were well looked after. I especially liked the small attention to detail. The lilac plate that matched the macaroon. The tea strainer, really nice tasting tea. A silver tea pot that keeps your tea hot. And lovely... More

Like most rural English towns at harvest time, Helmsley has not a buzz like a vibrant city, but a warm hum to it, everyone taking in the last rays as autumn fall progresses, keeping out of the way of farm vehicles scurrying to secure dry crops. The bikers chewing the fat over the latest machinery, glad to take in another... More

May I say first that the staff were excellent and did their best. The fault clearly lies with the management. Be warned, never opt for the 'gallery menu', i.e. table d'hote. It is not difficult to devise a reasonably tasty menu, yet rarely have I tasted such disgusting fare as at the Black Swan: I felt physically ill after the... More

We stopped at this Hotel in late September as part of a tour with Evergreen. Loved the old style and layout of this hotel which in spite of its age was in very good condition. The rooms were large and airy and had comfortable beds. Only a one night stay but we felt welcome. For those staying here and looking... More

This hotel was everything that we had hoped for - a property that has been around for decades. It fronts the main town square in Helmsley - a very busy and attractive community with lots of places to visit nearby - a main reason for choosing this hotel. There are lots of great shops and restaurants other than the hotel's,... More

When we stayed here several years ago we were somewhat disappointed. The hotel was tired and had certainly seen better days. So when we were unable to get accommodation at our nearby favourite hotel recently, we somewhat reluctantly thought we would give this another try. HOWEVER.....we have had a delightful 3 night stay. The staff were delightful, well trained, friendly... More

Stayed here to view as possible wedding venue. Really nice place, would make a great venue but a few things put me off. We had a great 3 course dinner. Very small portions though. We had a standard double room which nice with a very comfortable bed. However, for what we paid £245 we expected more. It was quite basic... More

We visited here for a one night stay for a birthday treat as we had heard some amazing things. We opted for the six of one, half a dozen of the other package. The scones and Prosecco on arrival were very tasty. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. The six course tasting menu on the evening was... More
