We rented two of the rooms in the prefabricated motel units behind the main building. The price was very reasonable and the rooms each had an extremely comfortable king size bed, a microwave and a small fridge. The rooms were not huge but were well laid out and had a small table to eat at and two chairs. Outside there was a deck with another table and plastic chairs which we used to eat our takeout dinner, enjoying the water views.

There was an in-window AC unit which did a great job keeping the room cool despite it being 30 Celsius or more during the day. Some people may be bothered by the noise of the AC but we had no problem sleeping.

We had breakfast in the cafe after our second and last night there. Breakfast is not included in the overnight rate but the a la carte prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity you get at breakfast. I had the pancakes and they were absolutely delicious, drenched in real maple syrup and in case that wasn’t enough they put the bottle of syrup on the table for me to use. You don’t see that very often!

This accommodation was a last minute choice as our hotel in a different town cancelled our reservation unexpectedly. I am glad to have found this place as it was very clean, perfectly OK location-wise, by the water and not too far from the dining options. Even if it was pretty much basic, we had a good night sleep, it was quiet, and the person welcoming us was really nice.

Great place to stay, Friendly owners, Clean rooms, good breakfast. reasonably close to everything. We enjoyed our visit, and will return to visit again, as soon as we are able to travel. (would have visited again this year if not for Covid-19 Travel Restrictions)

Very average location. Good for an overnight stay. A few observations:

*King sized bed was huge just for me.
*Overall very clean
*Room had teas and instant coffee but no drip coffee of any kind.
*Oddly had Joe Louis as snacks in the fridge. I did eat one. :-)
*Harbour view would only apply to very few rooms - most have dull urban views.
*In fact the location is on the main street next to residential houses that are not all that well maintained. I didn't know the neighbourhood but having driven around it, I made sure I brought all my valuables into my room.
*Bathroom and facilities were good. I actually did want to take a bath but my bathtub push down "plug" wouldn't work so I couldn't get a bath. Not that serious an issue.
*The train track is literally 100 metres from my room and at least two trains went by in the evening. I don't mind trains even if loud but if you are a sensitive sleeper, you'll be woken up. If any passed while I was asleep - I missed those.
*I suspect not in the main house but in the "motel" section, the wall were amazingly thin. I heard every little noise from the next room, even him stirring his coffee mug. So no privacy and if you're lucky, no one snoring next door as it would sound like he was in the same room.
*One negative thing that sets the tone for the visit is the "office" area which I assume was once the cafe. Now it looks like a personal living room full of clutter and mess. Really dirty cat dishes on the floor. Someone cooking while someone else gets your key and takes you to your room. You can't help but wonder how clean the rooms will be based on your first impressions. Fortunately the rooms were clean but your first impression is likely not to be that good.

I would stay there again but not necessarily my first choice. If you are sensitive to loud noises like trains or snorers in the next room then this might not be the place for you.

First, the positive: our room was clean. And that's about it. The cafe is no more, having closed permanently. There's a Chevy on blocks in front of one of the cabins and various snow removal pieces strewn about. The only view from our room was of the train tracks and we were serenaded by several trains during our one-night stay. There was no water pressure in either the bathroom sink or shower if someone in another room decided to simultaneously flush a toilet or have a shower. The reception area is a joke. Our air condition unit made more noise than the passing trains. Apart from a couple of student desk lamps on the bedside tables, there was one dim overhead light in the room. The hairdryer had one speed - full force, because the lower level was burned out. The bed mattress was concave and the TV remote was on its last legs. Complimentary coffee consisted of two Nescafe sachets. One of the worst places we've ever stayed at and sets the low bar for everything else that follows.

After a very long day in Cape Breton, my husband and I stayed here for one night. I paid online and did not need to provide anything upon checking in. The king bed was comfortable. The room was clean. Train tracks are directly behind the hotel. The trains did not bother our sleep at all, though. They provided free water bottles and moon pies. The water coming out of the tap smelled strange. Pricier than I would have liked to pay.

I have been travelling the NS to Cape Breton route for many years, and this little Motel/B&B has to be the best deal in the Port Hawksbury area. Comfy rooms, great hosts, quiet location. AND, starting soon, they will be having lobster suppers during the middle of the week! Excellent breakfast too - even if you stay in one of the motel units.

The Harbourview is a great place to stay.

A very convenient stop en route to the Cabot Trail, after crossing the Canso Causeway.

Excellence can be found in unusual places and need not be the height of luxury - the excellence of this establishment is in the quality of the caring host.

Manual the easy-going host did his best to accommodate our needs. When we ask for restaurant suggestions, he mentioned that few were open on Sunday evening, but that if we could find something to eat and bring it back, we could use the dining area where we would have breakfast the next day. We went searching for dinner, did find a few places, picked one (average), ate, and return to the inn (our room was in the main house, with water view). The B&B also has a more recent addition of dining area on the water and cottages.

We had a bottle of wine in the room and decided to enjoy it in the dining area which overlooks the water. We were surprised to find a most comfortable room, where the host was entertaining a few friends, wood-burning stove (not on in July of course), sofa, and cozy setting. We enjoyed our wine and the company and overall, it was a lovely, unexpected evening. Hey Manuel...we know how you feel, but we really did enjoy seeing "The Dutch Runner" :-)

The old freighter being reconditioned in the nearby harbor provided entertainment for an hour as we and the other guests enter the other guests discussed the goings on.
We really wished we had brought dinner back and enjoyed a full evening in what is probably the most comfortable spot in Port Hawksbury.

Manuel, the breakfast was great.

We originally booked at this "top rated" B&B in Port Hawkesbury (Harbourview B&B), only to realize that perhaps it was the top rated of $85 lodgings... we do not recommend this B&B (really, a mobile home unit in a parking lot)! It was dingy, dark, small, no water view, the host was horribly rude. In fact, it was so bad that we opted to go find another place!!!

Perhaps the inside rooms are nicer, but the motel units are horrible. Maybe this place is 4.5 stars for $85 lodging options, but we opted to go stay at the Mackenzie House B&B ($110 lodging) where it was well lit, spacious, clean, and had a gracious host.

The host offered to let us check out the room before finishing our registration, and then when we opted not to stay, he had the nerve to charge us for not staying there, despite the rooms not being as advertised. We are currently disputing the charges. STAY AWAY!
