We did an impromptu trip to Grand Bend after the August long weekend. This was one of the only hotels available during that time.
The hotel is in a great location a short walk to the beach, shopping and grocery store. Parking is outside and included in the rate.
The hotel has been refurbished and looks modern and had good amenities. Rooms are small. Bed and pillows are comfortable. The is a mini fridge, no kettle or safe.
Nice outdoor spaces for those on the first floor.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Free coffee in the lobby.
The big disappointment was over the two nights we stayed there our room was only partially cleaned. The bathroom was cleaned, but the bed wasn’t made up or floor cleaned. For the price we paid $250+/night would have expected better cleaning services.
I would try this hotel again , if the price was lower.

Perfect location for discovering Grand Bend. The hotel and rooms are spotlessly clean and the design and decor are beautiful. We did have a problem with noise so if you want a quieter exeprience try to avoid the rooms near the terrace. However, we raised this with management and their response was amazing - we were given another room without any hassle at all. All the staff in fact are incredibly friendly - a really brilliant hotel.

The newly renovated hotel looks great! The staff were extremely friendly. The room was small, no fridge, chair or desk. Our bed was very uncomfortable, hard as a rock. The air conditioner/heater points directly on the bed, so very uncomfortable sleeping with it blowing on you. And the blinds do not keep out the like at all. It was like daylight all night long. The location is great. Different mattress, position of bed to heating and cooling and black out shades would have improved our stay tremendously.

This hotel has so much potential but it fell extremely short on so many levels. I really wanted to like it because the staff were terrific, the grounds were nice with all of the seating area and evening music with a fire. We were placed on the 2nd floor facing the main road which had extremely loud traffic ALL hours of the night and early morning. To top this off the blinds that cover the windows are not blackout so it was bright early in the morning…you put both of these together and this vacation became one without sleep. The beds are hard and without a pillow top mattress and the pillows provide zero support. Our fridge was leaking a lot of water from the freezer when we arrived and we had to get that cleaned from the house keeping staff. There were 3 of us and the room was basically 2 small rooms separated by a door. The washroom was not between the 2 rooms but rather you had to walk through a room and disturb the person sleeping in order to use the washroom. There was no recycling bins and only one small garbage basket in the washroom. Our room had no closet in it either and one tv did not work during our entire stay. This set up was ridiculous and had we known this was what we “reserved” there is no way we would have stayed here. The room was called a double queen suite. It was not a suite and was insufficient for 3 people. I am not sure if all the beds at this hotel are as firm as the one we had but I did see larger rooms with king beds that definitely had more space…since my friends reserved these. We also had to lug our suitcases up a steep flight of stairs as there was no elevator or a staff that offered to help us with our luggage. Given all of these negative experiences we had, we will not return especially since the price does not equal what we got…..sleepless, loud nights with terrible beds.

NEW MODERN EXCEPTIONAL!! This exceptional hotel has been completely and beautifully re-modeled. There are seating areas in many areas to enjoy the ambience of this Hotel some with natural fire pits. They even have marshmallows and hot chocolate. Staff are all very friendly. Chris that called us about our reservation and offered help to ensure we had our Valentines Day weekend and dinner was booked... the front desk staff Steve was a gentleman and offered us assistance and recommendations about local activities. The cleaning lady noticed we were leaving our room and asked if everything was satisfactory and told us she would be happy to top us up with towels or products to make our stay comfortable. Lolita (the manager or director of the hotel) was a ball of fire! We were personally greeted by her and overwhelmed by her energetic, professional and heartfelt kindness. What a wonderful, beautiful lady. We highly recommend this hotel that is downtown in Grand Bend and a short walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. If you want to be in the heart of this community this is the place to stay! 5 stars. Jim and Laura (Erie Beach, Ontario)

!I really wanted to like this hotel. The only reason i gave it 1 star was the location. Made my reservation 6 months in advance. When booking over the phone the women went on and on about getting me the cutest room and making my stay worth it as I was in town for a wedding. She talked up this room saying it was the perfect room with a wet bar and big windows. When I arrived the person checking me in said my room is a “bit noisy”but was notified of that when I booked. I was not told this but though how bad can it be ? Worse than I expected! The room is not insulated properly and on top of the sound of trucks and cars 24/7 I could here the people next door and above which was extremely loud. We didn’t get any sleep. On top of the ridiculous noise level the room was so small the door hit the bed when opening. There was no fridge -I was told there was a wet bar. Not even a garbage or cable tv in the room. They clearly cut a lot of corners renovating. Also the exit sign was extremely bright, the shades did not close all the way and the display on the phone was huge and bright. Impossible to sleep with all the noise and light. Management should be embarrassed to charge people that amount of money. We had a lot of people on the strip and back home ask how we liked the hotel and we were certain to tell them not to waste their money.

We went to Grand Bend August Civic Day holiday weekend which is apparently the busiest weekend of the year. By the law of supply and demand I expected to pay more than usual but not $329 (plus tax) for a king bed!! We were on the ground floor and were subjected to road noise and the noise of people walking around in the room above us til well past midnight. Extremely small room. When you opened the door it almost touched the bed. No coffee maker in the rooms. Complicated telephone and TV remote with no instructions. Hotel staff had no idea how to call from room-to-room. Probably not a problem for most people but we were travelling with our elderly parents that don't have a cell phone. If staff were trained properly they would know how to complete this simple task. Definitely a huge disappointment for the $1000 we dropped for 3 rooms and do not recommend.

We just spent the weekend at the Colonial Hotel in Grand Bend for our Dental Hygiene reunion. Oh my gosh what a great renovation they did to the Hotel. The staff was so attentive-honestly, we have never been looked after so well. Big shout out to Deborah who bent over backwards to cater to our every want. She brought us forks to eat our pie, set up the tables in the lobby so we could play games, started the fire for us outside, brought over the propane heaters and rearranged the tables. Made us fresh coffee! We all agreed that she went above and beyond for us which made our weekend so very special! We will be back and highly recommend this hotel!

The Colonial is a great place to stay and the new modern renovations make quite the luxurious visit. Lolita is one of the very friendly staff members that is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need. Overall great experience and 10/10 would recommend.

My husband and I were curious about what a popular spot(in our 20s) in Grand Bend would look like in our 70s. We booked into this newly renovated and unique boutique hotel for three nights. We choose a Brenner House room(great size, wet bar, seclusion) for our first(but not last) stay. The bullet points are simple..great space; excellent staff; in the centre of the action. So much is available to you using this hotel as your jumping off point. There is, of course, a great beach..superior live theatre(Huron County Playhouse)..easy passage to shops(in the Bend) in nearby Bayfield. One last observation, my husband is an early riser..he made it a habit to use the hotel lobby to read, drink coffee(freshly prepared by hotel staff) socialize..compliments to the night staff for providing local knowledge and insights about a wide variety of topics.
