We stayed in cottage #5 - it was clean and appointed as the ads claimed.
The site is in a good location to get places, and very quiet, most units set back from the road.
Hosts were fine, easy to reach during their open hours. They make an effort to run things smoothly

Aside #1 - we were originally in # 14 but the loud hum (Mach 1 level) from the pool filtration system was too much , so we asked to move and were accommodated right away

Aside # 2 - warning to guests & tip to owners: get some bath mats or etch the tub floors. They are as slick as ice and a liability claim waiting to happen. Good luck.

The cottages are basic housekeeping cottages. We have been coming here for 20 years, a few of the older cottages have been replaced with new ones. The pool is a great addition. Each cottage has its own fire pit. We rented cottage #3 and cottage #11. We were pleased to find both clean upon arrival and ready for check in on time. Most of the furniture feels too big for the cottages. Many larger family groups rent these cottages and have a habit of moving dishes around for family style dining. This leaves the cottages short on cups, cutlery, wine glasses etc. Sunny is happy to replace these items upon request but a better inventory after each group checks out to ensure each cottage has the basics would improve guest relations and ratings. I come to By The Bay with realistic expectations. The price reflects the cottage style. Sunny puts her heart and soul into this property. She’s on site every day and can often be found helping with cleaning, laundry etc. She, like many other tourism operators, has suffered as a result of COVID and devastating damage caused by Hurricane Fiona. She has invested heavily to replace windows, roofs and clean up the many downed trees. It’s true it wouldn’t hurt to replace some broken blinds and light switches. Those little fixes would go a long way towards making guests feel they are staying somewhere that while dated, is well maintained and safe. Still, I would give Sunny a 5/5 for efforts and warm hospitality. We will be back and look forward to our next stay.

We stayed in Cabin 5 and, unfortunately, the cabin smelled strongly of old food and mildew. The towels were so mildewy that we had to ask for replacements. The sheets, unfortunately, smelled of body odour. The smell really made our stay unpleasant. The cabin could use an update - it still has old carpet, and this cabin does not appear in any of the pictures on the website (surprisingly, it is labelled as an “executive” cottage). In addition, many of the screens were ripped, including on the front door, there was no dish rack, and the bbq did not seem to have been cleaned in a long time, and the basin of the bbq quickly caught fire from all the grease caught in the bottom.

On the plus side, the location was great, as were the grounds and the outdoor heated pool. And our friends appreciated that their cabin was pet-friendly. The owners were pleasant, but unfortunately we would not return or recommend this place.

to begin the owner/hostess was very rude to our family and friends! not only was she rude, she also charged for extra amenities such as laundry soap and detergent for using the laundry room. the rooms themselves were dirty and full of insects. we asked the hostess to switch bed sheets but instead of giving us bed sheets, she said to keep them and argued saying “why did you not tell me before? you already stayed once.” the owners customers service was absolutely poor. in one of the houses living rooms, we found a mattress that was peed on by dogs. the owner told us that there were no dogs that had stayed in the houses but one of the rooms also smelled like wet dog. the cottage also has a pool for the kids to use but it looks like it hasnt been cleaned properly by staff. they claim to clean it every morning but its been nothing but dirty. if i wouldnt want any of my children and my friends children to swim in that pool, i wouldnt want any other children swimming in it as well. the wifi does not work as well when the owner claims to have “fast wifi” on her advertisement. when speaking to the owner ablut the wifi she says she cannot do anything about it and to deal with it. overall i would give this cottage a 0/10 rating if i could. i will not be coming back here

I was concerned reading previous reviews, however my experience was very good at this location. Check in was easy. Cottage was wonderful and clean. The beds were comfortable and there was air conditioning and a dishwasher. (We stayed in cottage 10)The location was beautiful and close to the beaches. The wifi was fast and worked without any problems. There is fire pits (although it would have been good to have 1 fire pit per cottage). I am sorry to see others had issues in the past, but our families experience was great. We will be back.

Scam. Host (Sunny Tan) requested 500$ damage deposit. On the day when we came for check in, Host asked credit card details along with the rent. We felt something is not right. We said we cannot provide credit card details as the rental board said not to do so. We asked for the damage deposit of 500 $ back. Host rude to me and my family, we left the place immediately.

I can't actually review the cottages because our reservation was cancelled without notification. We booked almost a year in advance because we were going to PEI for a wedding in the Stanhope Area. We received a confirmation and we paid our deposit. When we called a month before our arrival we were told that we had no reservation. When we emailed her our confirmation she said she made a mistake and booked our cottage and could do nothing for us. She offered us an apartment unit in Charlottetown which would not work as we were not going to travel back and for to the week long wedding celebration at Stanhope. Run from this place as you never know if you if your reservation will actually be there when you arrive.

Just to note that in addition to all Josh B wrote (we were there together), she charged us $45 the day after we left (July 3rd). When we saw the charge on the credit card a couple of weeks later, we called and she accused us of stealing a table cloth - which was so ugly I couldn’t even believe her first response was to think anyone would bother taking it. I explained that I had put it in a bedroom closet to keep it from getting ruined by kids. She said she would look for it the next day after the current guests checked out, and would refund the money that night if she found it. This would mean I should have had my money back on Monday night. When I called Tuesday afternoon to say we hadn’t heard from her nor yet had a refund on
Our VISA, she told me she was very busy and she would do it that night. By Friday am there was still no refund so I called again. She basically Yelled at me that she was busy and she would do it within an hour. By 2pm there was still no refund on our card. I called again and she yelled at me, again, saying that she is very busy and that I am wasting her time by calling, but that she had sent the money in the morning. I told her VISA immediately posts transactions and there is nothing showing from her. Then she hung up on me. Of note, we did try to go through tourism PEI to express our concerns and they seemed more interested in trying to justify her behaviour and undermine our expressed experience. Really a shame because PEI is such an awesome place for families and kids. Will rethink next summer.

We rented the four bedroom cottage. The very first questions we asked were, "Is there air conditioning, is it clean and is there Wifi?"

We arrived shortly after 3:00 for check-in and were told to come back in 2 hours as it wasn't ready. When we got back 2 hours later, it was adequately cleaned (except the kitchen countertops) but there was no toilet tissue in the washrooms. There was no wifi as the router was hooked up to the phone line and the internet was not accessible. And to add insult to injury there was no air conditioning. One of the screens for one of the patio doors was off the rails and my husband had to repair it. Very cheap patio doors were on the cottage.

When we asked for compensation for the inadequacies, we were told no. It was a busy summer weekend and there were no other accommodations available.

The night before we had stayed in Mill River and it was lovely. It was an older building but it was comfortable and the staff was excellent.

The night after this cottage we stayed in Brackley Beach. It was wonderful and very clean.

Needless to say we were very disappointed with this cottage and will not stay there again, nor will we recommend it to anyone.

Showed up and was beautiful views and all but that fast changed to a horrible experience... as we checked in, the office was a very messy room with a lot of random stuff and women who served us was very rude.. she also asked if we had pets and expected us to pay 60$ for two nights (which was okay for us).. then we drove over to our cottage and started unpacking our stuff.. cottage had dirty floors, dirty dishcloths everywhere and was ANT infested.. there was no hand soap.. towels could only be changed every TWO days (which at home we never reuse towels so why should we, when were on vacation). She told us they had a fire place so we got all our stuff together and went down to the fire place where there was NO WOOD, so we asked about fire wood and she said oh you have to BUY and bring your own.. there was one dishcloth for our stay and no paper towel so we asked about it and she said you can buy your own. Toaster never worked so dont expect toasted bread.. We were told there was bike rental which was included but once we asked about it there was an hourly rate.. so we scratched that idea.

So we do not recommend these cottages, unless you wanna bring your own : hand soap, dishcloths, dish soap, towels for pool and ANT Traps..
