Located in the centre of Treasure Beach, Jakes Hotel is an arty collection of oceanfront hotel rooms, cottages, bungalows, and villas. The hotel began as a restaurant with Sally Henzell as proprietor-in-chief. Guests encouraged her to build a place where they could stay after a night of drinking. She later built other colourful structures (pink, blue and acid yellow) on the beach in Jamaica. Many rooms have outdoor showers, each with its own outdoor space and private entrance. Some rooms have ocean and garden views or interior seating and dining areas. Each room is unique, yet all have oodles of character and charm. Jakes Hotel features hotel rooms, cottages, villas, two restaurants, two bars, a full-service spa, a saltwater swimming pool, and seven freshwater swimming pools. Before hip design-driven boutique hotels became a thing, there was Jakes. There's a reason people return. Treasure Beach isn't a place you tick off a bucket list; it's a place you tuck into.

My family stayed at Jake’s in Treasure Cottage, where all four of us (3 adults, 1 child) had plenty of room and were extremely comfortable.

Adrian arranged everything for us, from excursions to transportation to meals, and it made the trip incredibly easy and extremely enjoyable (and relaxing). He is extremely helpful and easy to communicate with both during and before the trip.

The cottage itself is fully equipped and roomy, with air conditioning splits in the rooms to keep you cool, comfy beds and plenty of dining and lounging space, inside and outside.

We spent so much time just lounging on the porch, enjoying our beautiful, sunny view of the beach. We started every morning walking out the back gate directly onto the beach for a walk, then returned to enjoy home cooked breakfast from Tracy.

Can I say enough good things about Tracy? No I cannot. Everything she prepared for us was delicious, including jerk chicken, Escoveitch fish, fish tacos and a loaded continental breakfast, daily.

The main Jake’s property is just a short walk from Treasure Cottage, and has a cocktail bar that takes USD or Jamaican, cash or card. Plus, a pool, a great dock to jump off of (safely) and a gift shop and restaurant (we didn’t eat at it because we had meals cooked in our cottage).

Excursion recommendations? Definitely the Captain Dennis Boat Tour, which you can combine with the Black River Safari (no need to do separate trips). YS Falls is also great, especially with kids.

We had a fantastic time staying at Jake’s. Our trip was exactly what we were hoping it would be, and exceeded our expectations. This is the authentic Jamaican experience you didn’t know you needed.

I have nothing to say, but amazing things about Jake’s resort for a family vacation with a small infant. We traveled for the first time with our five month old baby, and Jake’s could not have been a better experience. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that she was comfortable and that my husband and I were as relaxed as possible while traveling internationally with a small infant. Before our stay, Adrian helped us book spa treatments, discussed nanny options with us, and even was able to coordinate stocking our cottage with bottled water, fresh fruit, wine, and coffee at our request. When we arrived, there was a Pack n’ Play waiting. that night, I realized I had not planned how to bathe our infant, so Adrian found us a big washing basin for her. We had some amazing dinners at home, where a cook(Damien) came to us and prepared delicious meals, including jerk chicken, and fish escovitch. These meals felt so luxurious as they were private, and just for us, and the food was absolutely incredible!!
We stayed at the calabash cottage, which had its own private beach, a shared living space where we could escape the midday heat with our baby and watch Netflix, and air-conditioned bedrooms/bathrooms. You could hear the ocean breeze throughout the cottage and the views of the ocean were unparalleled. The indoor/outdoor showers were absolutely awesome! Our cottage was approximately 5 to 10 minute walk from Jake’s resort, which gave us a sense of privacy and a place to escape to when we wanted some family time. However, when we wanted to go to Jake’s to eat, Adrian gave us his personal number and had us text him when we would like a ride if it was too hot, so that the baby would not be uncomfortable in the heat. The food at Jake’s was always delicious! And the staff could not have been kinder, they all knew our daughter by her first name, and we felt like celebrities every time we stepped foot on the resort. The resort felt incredibly safe- there was a security guard who came by every night around seven, and introduced themselves before their nighttime patrol around the resort. The massages at the spa are reasonably priced and or a small piece of heaven, you felt the ocean breeze and truly melted away.
All in all, this vacation could not have gone any more smoothly. Thanks to the help of Jake’s and all their staff (especially Adrian, who could not have been more accommodating if he tried!) . Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

I stayed at Jake's Villa earlier this month during a volunteer work trip, and it was a fantastic experience. The villa has a unique, artsy vibe with charming decor and beautiful ocean views. The staff was incredibly welcoming, making me feel right at home. The food was great, and the location in the heart of the community felt safe and comfortable. It was the perfect place to relax after a busy day of volunteering!

We traveled as a group of 71 including a boys and a girls high school soccer team. Jake's was AMAZING. They did everything to accommodate our large group and we always felt safe. With this large group, we obviously stayed in a wide variety of housing that Jake’s had to offer, and each location had its own special perk. The grounds are well kept and had an adorable Jamaican flair. I definitely plan to come back to Jake’s with friends.

We are just back from our Jamaican vacation, we stayed at 4 different properties and my absolute favorite was Hope Villa at Jakes. Before we even reached Adrian was amazing, he gave us options for meals and tours and was in touch with us prior to our arrival which was seamless. When we met him we felt like friends. When we arrived we were greeted by the two members of staff Amanda and Horace who would take care of us like family. We immediately felt relaxed, safe, and at home. They went above and beyond to cater to all our needs.

The Villa was stunning 4 bedrooms, a private infinity pool, an open plan living area, and my favorite place the rooftop patio where there is a giant corner bed perfect for sunbathing by day and star gazing at night. The sky was full of stars,

We planned meals and Amanda cooked up a storm, hands down the best meals on the Island. Horace went up in the coconut trees and got us fresh coconut water. It was great to just relax at the house and have all our meals cooked for us. After dinner, we went to Jack Sprats for cake and ice cream which was delicious.

The house is about 3 minutes from the Jakes resort which we visited a few times and we had lunch there that was delicious and I loved the natural vibe of the resort, It was cute and quaint with 5-star service.

Hope house is right on the beach so when you walk out the back door you are on the beach and can take long walks, swim or just watch amazing sunsets and sunrises. One of our highlights was to meet Ms, Sally, truly an amazing inspirational lady, it was a pleasure and honor to meet her.

I loved everything about this place and would highly recommend it and can not wait to return. Thank you to the whole Jakes team for helping to make this a very special vacation.

The crew and property at the Calabash Villa and Cottage were truly incredible. Adrian's planning before/during the trip made everything very smooth. We spent 7 nights and did not want to leave. Damion's cooking was fantastic and gave us a taste of so many Jamaican dishes while looking out for a few allergies and dietary restrictions. Rowena gracefully and magically made everything look like our kids hadn't come through wreaking havoc. Shane was always there at just the right time to help and his fruit plates are amazing, plus our two year old took a special liking to him. This crew and their experience was the highlight of our families' trip. They felt like old friends in no time. We had 11 people ranging from 2 to 74 and they were able to accommodate the little and big's needs and made sure all of us in the middle had a blast. The house is amazing, but the crew is what makes it truly special. Thanks guys!

I have traveled extensively around Jamaica and the Caribbean. On a recent trip I made the trek to the south coast to stay at Jakes.

I’ve heard mixed things for years so was aware it was a roll of the dice.

In the interest of time, I’ll condense my experience. When I arrived I was not greeted, waited to check in. They have no help with luggage so I schleped my bags to the furthest reach of the property to an “ocean view villa”. The only view was of a weedy dirt patch, the patio is furnished with dirty rotten wood furniture. The room sports only 2 lights with a 10 watt bulb making it necessary to use my phone flashlight to move around and unpack. The WiFi and AC did not work. The mosquitos were comparable to no where I’ve ever been and there are zero amenities in room.

I stay in Rustic boutique hotels often- Jake’s is not rustic it is a dump.

I went to the office to inquire about a coffee maker and possibly another light and was told no one was available to help me. I could check back in the morning. In the morning I had made arrangements to check out 3 days early. The manager was defensive and let me know Jake’s is “rustic”,
I reached out to the main property manager for a week as did Hotels.com to persue a refund. After 17 attempts have not had acknowledgment or a call back from Colleen the manager. The room condition was poor but the overall service was unforgivable- especially on an island that has some of the warmest people in the world.

Jake’s PR team works hard to get press and articles touting it as one of Jamaicas chic resorts… I can not stress enough, the accommodation and service are not worth your money. Jamaica is filled with properties that are so lovely they will change your life. Jake’s is not one.

If you're the type of traveler looking for something a little different and off the beaten path, away from the crowds and all-inclusives, then Jake's Hotel is the place for you!

Jake's has a main building with reception, a restaurant, a small pool and poolside bar. Just down the path, there is also a Beach Restaurant called Jack Sprat. Both Jake's and Jack's are part of the hotel and you can charge to your room so it is convenient not to carry around cash while there. The food was reliably good and Jake's menu changed daily. There are a variety of buildings on the resort which vary from feeling very cottagelike to expansive villa. You can swim off the dock near the reception area or in the shallow entry beach (which is a 2 minute walk from reception).

The staff are warm and friendly and helped us book excursions to YS falls, Captain Dennis boat Tours and could also book art classes and spa services... we were just too relaxed to bother!

There are a few tiny restaurants and a bakery also within walking distance of the hotel.

*Unless you are a VERY confident driver and can navigate without GPS/google maps, I would recommend getting a shuttle service. We rented a car there and the almost 3hr drive was kind of crazy.

We spent three nights at the Jackes Hotel in Treasure Beach.
A very nice hotel complex on the south coast, located right on a small reef. The hotel doesn't have a beach itself, but it is right next door to a grill restaurant (clean, no rubbish). The hotel has several entrances via stairs or ladders into the shallow water. Perfect for snorkeling.
Food: Daily special with side dishes (fish & meat) changes every day. Price/performance ratio is OK. The food was very tasty. Only the waiters are not really motivated and chat a lot among themselves and forget their guests.
Complex: Well maintained, no rubbish, fantastic sunsets
Would I stay here again? Definitely!

My husband and I stayed at Jakes in June 2021 for a big anniversary trip. It was our third time at the resort and our best trip yet. We were still very impressed with the resort and everyone who worked there starting with Trudy, our server and bartender. She made sure we had everything we needed and more. On the day of our anniversary celebration we arranged to have a minister renew our vows and Trudy and the team asked if they could set up a private dinner for us. We weren’t sure what it was, but it was the best decision that made our day even more special. The Hut is right on the ocean between Sweet Lip and Mussels and is used for private dinners. Trudy made signs, arranged flowers and balloons and set the table beautifully. It was such a sweet gesture from a sweet person. During our stay while at Dougie’s bar, owner Jason Henzell and his sister Justine who manages the hotel stopped by to say hello, along with Captain Dennis who makes the best peppa sauce around!

Jakes is a hidden gem with access to some great local experiences – Pelican Bar, Appleton Rum Distillery, Black River, Lover’s Leap, Captain Dennis and his boat/lunch team, and all the local Treasure Beach restaurants and shops. Plus the best jerk chicken and pork around.

I would say the people that work at Jakes make the experience. Devonna and Evelyn at the front desk, O’Neal our driver, Trudy our server and bartender, Sandy the lifeguard and the rest of the team who made it a great week. That’s what keeps us coming back. We would and have recommended Jakes Hotel to all our friends and family.
