The Pelican Alvor hotel receives accolades for its cleanliness, with many guests commending the pristine condition of both rooms and pools, despite occasional comments on daily cleaning. The establishment's location is a highlight, offering a tranquil setting close to the town and harbor, while also being budget-friendly, although some visitors have noted unexpected charges for in-room safes. The spacious rooms with comfortable beds and a serene atmosphere contribute to the hotel's charm, as does the friendly service, especially from reception and bar staff. Amenities are generally well-received, though there are mixed feelings about the reservation of sunbeds and occasional maintenance issues.

We booked this hotel partly due to its location being near friends who live in Alvor. Although it seemed on the map to be a bit of a walk to the village, we found it a simple ten minute stroll into the heart of the village by taking a different route than just following the main road. Suzanna greeted us at reception with such warmth and friendliness and indeed this was reflected by all the staff throughout our stay. They always had a smile and were happy to help with all our queries.

The Pelican Alvor was previously the Luna Alvor but has since been taken over by new management after it had been shut down during the pandemic. You can see that they've been working hard to bring it back to a good standard, reseeding and top dressing the lawns, upgrading the bedrooms and replacing all the decking around the pool. Our holiday company had offered us the Yellow Alvor Garden next door on an all inclusive basis but we decided to stay put as we preferred the studio layout and facilities. We are so glad we did.

The room was large, well presented and comfortable overlooking the pool area, The beds were great, large and the mattresses were sufficiently soft and yet supportive. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels also being provided and the wifi was excellent throughout our stay.

Breakfast was perfect for us - although the choice was the same each morning and relatively limited compared to larger hotels, it was fresh and perfectly adequate for us to start the day with. It was more of a Continental breakfast with the cooked elements being limited to eggs, bacon, sausages and mushrooms or baked beans but perfectly adequate to start the day with. The pastel da nata tarts were great (a type of Portuguese custard tart) and now are a firm favourite of ours with a morning coffee.

The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout and peaceful. There wasn't any evening entertainment and dinner wasn't available but they are looking to change this in the future.

The decking around the main and childrens pool was just about completed when we left, with the work being carried out not being as intrusive as we had originally feared, so doubtless the loungers will be returned to the poolside shortly. During our stay they were on the grass which was sloping which wasn't ideal when sunbathing, particularly as you tracked the sun during the day.

Overall we loved our stay here and this is a hotel that is on the up if you are looking for a quiet retreat in a well priced, comfortable, peaceful hotel with lovely staff. Would certainly return when we next visit Alvor.

Dear Caldeany, It was with great affection that we received your comment which we thanked. We contacted you who had a wonderful vacation in our company and enjoyed everything at Pelican in general. All the changes pelican is making is precisely to provide our guests with an unforgettable holiday and certainly return to our company. At this time we already have night life with live music every Wednesday from 21h to 23h. The restaurant will operate during this month. It will be a pleasure to welcome you again. See you soon. Keep up with our offers. Pelican Target

We had a great stay here, every day we would comment on how amazing the staff were, special mention to Francisco at the bar who was such a gentleman and always made time for our kids, which was never reciprocated 🤣
We had a toddler and an 8 month old, the hotel seems to cater more for older couples but we had such a fantastic time. The pool area is lovely, and the 2 bed room we had on top floor was absolutely huge and very clean with a massive balcony. Lunch and drinks were inexpensive and good quality.
Location is good, only about 8 mins from the water.
Downsides were the snackbar at the pool was closed for duration of our stay which meant a decent trek up to the hotel any time you wanted anything which wasn't ideal with kids.
There seemed to be an old wooden hot tub and decking on our balcony which was nailed shut and had been that way for some years, was a bit of an eyesore.
Breakfast was very basic.
The hotel wanted to charge for use of the safe in the room, I was very disappointed with this, the safes are in the room anyway and it just seemed like gouging.

For us this place is perfect, rooms are large well maintained with a large balcony to sit out on and enjoy the peace and quiet which is why we loved this place so much. All the staff are so friendly and go out of their way to help. Pool area is clean and loungers are very comfy and always available. Maybe put some on each balcony would make it even more perfect. 15 min walk to the town is an easy walk and needed after eating in one of the many very good restaurants available. The restaurants close by are great and very reasonable. Stopping of at Jollys on your walk back is highly recommended at the camp site, so much fun and owners and all staff are amazing.
We will be back next year and many more to come.

Firstly I need to mention the staff probably the friendliest people I’ve come across in a hotel, don’t want to single anyone out but the bar staff were great as were the reception staff.
We had a ground floor room
,clean plenty of space plus all you need for a self catering holiday.
The hotel itself is spotless fully air conditioned (as were the rooms) with a good selection of food at breakfast plus a great snack menu during the day and not too expensive.
There’s a large decking area attached to the hotel with tables and chairs where you can have a beer or a bite to eat in the shade.
You have to walk down some steps and then down a lawned area to get to the pool, the pool itself is adequate and is also surrounded by decking my only gripe was the selfish people who reserved beds then appeared mid afternoon to collect there towels and yes they were English, not the hotels fault.
The location is about 15 minutes walk to harbour a little less to the centre and about 5 minutes walk to the supermarket.
On the day of our departure we missed breakfast as we were leaving early but the hotel kindly knocked us up a small packed lunch to eat at our leisure, thanks for that.
All in all we had a very enjoyable stay at the Pelican.

We stayed at the Pelican Alvor for a long weekend break. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest staff who could not be more helpful. All the staff were amazing and made the stay very enjoyable. We had booked a studio but there were none available, so they gave us a two bedroom apartment instead which was spacious and impeccably clean. The pictures of the rooms on their website were completely accurate and we had a very comfortable stay. Breakfast and snacks were available throughout the day and were reasonably priced. The pool although not heated was clean and perfect for a cool off dip. I was struck by how calm and peaceful the location is, and just a short walk from the town of Alvor. The beach a little further away, but easily reached on foot or by a little tchu tchu road train. There was so much choice for places to eat in Alvor and essentially has everything you can need on the doorstep of the hotel including a small supermarket a few minutes away on foot.
I would certainly come back and stay again at the Pelican. I really do feel like I've had a refreshing break.

Great attentive staff who made my family and I feel very welcome from the start of our holiday to the end. The rooms are nice and spacious and very clean. We chose bed and breakfast and the breakfast was great with plenty of choice for everybody. Its in a great location only a 15 min stroll into town and if you have tired legs around 4 to 5 euros back in a taxi. We will definitely return to the pelican in the future.

Staff were helpful and welcoming. Room was attended by cleaners every day - clean towels. Some of the cleaning could be better - floors etc. we didn’t have breakfast but bar lunch snacks were good. Rooms are a great size. Pool bar was never open even on sunny days during our stay which was disappointing but would imagine it is during summer. The pool is freezing. On our last day the filters in the pool weren’t working but they were working to fix this. We enjoyed the 20 minute walk into Alvor centre where there are lots of lovely restaurants. Alvor definitely need to do something about all of the dog muck on the pavements! Even although the hotel was very quiet we were still charged 10 euros to keep the room on an extra hour.

Excellent apartment Hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Shower was excellent. Kitchen had all you needed including large fridge, knives, cooker, pots and pans, microwave etc.

Balcony was huge and clean. If you are on the front you only get the sun in the evening and there is only a view of the car park so if you intend to stay in the apparent during the day and sunbathe on the balcony you'll be better off with a room at the back overlooking the pool.

Air con was good but worth noting that although others say it is very quiet, it's only the vent in the room that's quite as each room has a large air con unit with a fan on the balcony and when you switch on the air con this fires up and sounds like an aircraft engine.

Only negative about the room was that they say you get a limited supply of hot water per day, we only had one shower each, so 2 showers a day and the water was already going cold by the end of the second shower.

The staff were extremely friendly but as everything was provided and we had no issues we only needed to speak to them on check in and out.

Great location - about 8 minutes walk to a small supermarket and 12-15 to the town Alvor.

Alvor has plenty of restaurants and tourist shops selling the sort of stuff nobody wants but buys as a souvenir.

Plenty of free parking.

This was our second stay at The Pelican. It has a lot going for it but a couple of minor issues.
The location was great for us, a 15 minute walk to Alvor, under 10 minutes to the Pingo supermarket and 5 minutes from The Jolly (a pub we made our own and knew the owner from last year).
The reception and bar staff in Pelican were excellent and very friendly. The food in the bar was good and reasonably priced.
The room was the same as last year and an excellent size, a TV you can swivel round to watch in bed and an excellent little kitchen with everything we needed.
Our issues were with the quality of the daily cleaning, it was poor.
The floor wasn't mopped and our feet ended up filthy (which then gets transferred to the bed) or in my case had white socks that were black underneath. There was a general lack of care which was a real shame as the main areas of the hotel were constantly cleaned.
Also our bin under the sink wasn't emptied at least 3 times and we took to leaving the rubbish bag out to ensure it was taken.

This year there was entertainment from 5 until 7 one evening on the terrace, this was well received and maybe the management should do more of this in future.
The hotel WiFi was patchy at best and our phones kept being disconnected.
The pool area is pretty good but could do with a bit of TLC, too often we struggled to get a lounger while others were "reserved" by people who never returned for 2 to 3 hours. A few more loungers wouldn't go amiss or a regular check to remove towels when the loungers aren't used for long periods.
We will definitely return if the standard of cleaning improves as this is an excellent hotel with bags of potential and friendly staff.

This was our second consecutive year staying at the Pelican Alvor and if anything it's improved. The work they were doing on the car park last year is complete and the lawns are looking great. The rooms are amazing. We had a studio with pool view and it's perfect for us. The room is huge with great kitchen facilities, an enormous bed and a great seating / dining area. There are 2 air conditioning units (one bedroom area and one seating area), plus a lovely balcony with an amazing view. It's a shame the air conditioning fan is sited directly on the balcony instead of pointing out onto the back but it does help to dry towels!
The breakfasts are amazing, with all the staff being helpful and friendly. In fact, throughout the hotel all the staff are just so friendly and they can't do enough for you.
This year we were on the first floor instead of the ground floor like last year, but the lifts are there for you almost immediately, whether you're going up or down.
The hotel never seemed too busy, the pool was rarely occupied when we wanted to use it, and it seems they've got a handle on rude people trying to reserve sun beds this year.
The location is great, it's a short walk to anywhere in Alvor, or if you hire a car as we did, you can get either local or straight onto the motorway very quickly. There is a supermarket round the corner and nice restaurants close by.
We really hope to return soon!
