we've stayed in many hotels around Alvor and always wanted to try here , we weren't disappointed , hotel is clean and staff are friendly, we stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites overlooking the pool and I really liked that, it might not be for everyone as you can hear the night time entertainment quite loudly from your room but for me this was kind of a bonus.
if I had a tiny complaint about the room its that there was no tv in the living area just one in each bedroom , not a big deal but we put our kids to bed early in each of the rooms so it meant we couldn't watch tv, again not a big deal!
we didn't choose all inclusive as we love the restaurants down the town.
the breakfast was very good, there were two different areas one for families with kids and one for couples or singles , I felt this was good as we have two young boys who are wild! but it really was good as we didn't feel we were annoying everyone as everyone was in the same boat, although we didn't go all inclusive we paid to use the all inclusive one day for lunch and it was pretty nice €24 pp kids go free
the only real draw back from not going all inclusive was that we had to pay for drinks at the pool bar , obviously we know that but although we asked if this was a problem and were told no the staff at the bar never had a visa Machiene to hand and never really had the correct change in the till, I do understand its predominantly for all include guests but I felt they could be better set up for people who weren't AI nevertheless it wasn't a major issue we always got served and the staff were very nice about it
we also had lunch twice at the main cafe bar near reception and had room service from there also and I have to say the prices were good and the food and service was excellent
the pool area is perfectly clean and the pool itself is class and absolutely huge, no problem getting beds at pool (travelled in may) and we had a small kids pool aswell which has slides etc and is right beside the playground , they playground is also very good and kept our 5 and 3 year old boys occupied for long periods
we didn't use the gym or sauna etc so can't comment
the hotel is a 10 minute walk to the town realistically its 15 minutes to bar street where most of the bars and restaurants are so this is a good location, its a downhill walk all the way in so you may want to look at a taxi home!
all in all I would 100% come back to this hotel and were looking at booking it again for this year

Our room was cleaned daily and to a good standard.
We were delayed on our outbound journey so the first night we wanted to go to bed earlier than we usually would after being up since 1am the night before, we went to bed about 10pm and the noise from the bar was ridiculously loud and we found that this is the same every day and night the music does stop around 11pm probably because they have the volume so loud. Walking by the speaker during the day could deafen you.
The pool area is huge, the water is always cold. We found that it gets windier in the afternoon. We didn’t struggle too much getting sunbeds until nearer the end of our week where I think that schools must have finished for the summer because the hotel had a lot of newcomers in one day.
We used mainly the green restaurant due to having children I thought that the lunch options were nicer than the evening choices, in the evening there was constant smashes from glasses and plates. We did use the blue restaurant and found that during lunch time they don’t have the kebab station like the green restaurant had which was a favourite of ours. However if you have no children or older children I would use the blue restaurant purely because it is a calmer experience.
The location of the hotel is about 15/20 minutes walk down hill into town, the hotel also puts on a bus to the beach the last bus leaves about 6pm so you could get the last bus to the beach and walk along the boardwalk into town to avoid a long walk with small children, taxis were available from the town or Uber app and the most expensive one we got was 7euro but this was a bigger taxi and after 12am (I don’t know if that makes a difference) The town and beach are lovely and most definitely worth a visit.
If you go to the beach I recommend heading left down the boardwalk from where you get dropped off and towards the cliffs walk through and to the secluded beach there, the views are beautiful.
I recommend going into town in the evening, the entertainment at the hotel is mainly just the kids mini disco until 9pm then a DJ or karaoke after until 11 it’s not the best.
The grand bar cafe bar is nice and we preferred to sit in there than up by the pool bar mainly because we couldn’t get a table outside there doesn’t seem to be enough tables for the size of the hotel and amount of people.
Overall as my title says we enjoyed the stay but I doubt I would stay again mostly because I felt the food and seating of an evening let the hotel down it’s almost that the hotel is just too big.
There is a free bus service from the hotel to the beach. but if you like walking it takes approximately 30 minutes. The town centre of Alvor is around 30 mins walk too but is quite hilly (coming back to the hotel). Alvor is a lovely fishing town, quiet during the day especially in the morning with a few shops, bars and restaurants, becoming busier in the afternoon and definately comes alive at night with all different types of restaurants and bars.
We arrived at 10.30pm and they had sandwiches in a bag prepared for our arrival. Check in was smooth and we were one of the furthest rooms away from the reception. I saw reviews saying how far the walk is but I must say that it really wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be!
We always managed to get sun beds near the shallow end so we could watch our son in the pool and we did not have to get up ridiculously early to reserve them. The room was spacious however it wasn’t perfect and was looking tired in some places. However, the shower is one of the best showers I have ever had! I liked having a little kitchenette as well and we took a travel kettle with us so managed to make hot drinks in our room. The Tv is pointless in the room as I could only find one English Channel that had signal however this was not a massive issue as I didn’t go on holiday to watch tv and just used it for some background noise at night.
I feel for the entertainment team. The entertainment at the hotel was not brilliant however the staff do try their best with working with what they have. The kids disco was at 8.30pm and then the evening entertainment was at 9.30pm. I think there was only one night we stayed right until the end. I saw reviews complaining about how loud the entertainment is in the evening but I did not have an issue with this at all.
The pool is huge however it was bloody cold. Took about 10 minutes for me to get my whole body in the water by getting use to the temperature. I didn’t enjoy going in the pool though as no matter where you went was there people throwing balls around and nearly hitting you in the head. I have no idea why people think it’s acceptable to spread across the pool and throw a ball around like they’re the only ones in there.
I was very concerned after reading the reviews about the food. So much so I even picked food in my case to bring with me however I didn’t need it at all. Breakfast time was my favourite as I had waffles with chocolate sauce every day (going to miss these) however the food was almost the same everyday this did not bother me as I am rather basic when it comes to food. There was pasta there every lunch and dinner so I always had something to eat and the cakes at dessert were tasty! I don’t think I’ve been on holiday before where I have ate so much.
I am unable to comment about the drinks as we are a non alcoholic family however there was always fizzy drinks available and a nice hot chocolate in the evening. We went to the local supermarket and bought a couple of bottles of water at €.36 each which lasted the holiday.
All in all, I was not actually disappointed with the hotel and If any of my friends or family would go to Portugal then I would recommend this hotel to them. I was not expecting grand things with a basic price.
We did end up having a lovely family holiday, Alvor is cute, we went for breakfast and dinner there a few times and also the beach close by is great. The little train was great for the kids, 5euro per adult and it takes you to the beach and into Alvor.
All inclusive package absolutely rubbish. Cocktails were out of a machine, juice was like pure cordial, and I was also shocked that they wouldn't give us (a family of 4!!) a second bottle of water upon request, I was told to refil it at the machines - gross. The snack bar should be located at the pool, its not about having to walk all the way round the pool, through reception and downstairs to get an ice cream for the kids, which I should ask is literally a scoop in a small cone of vanilla, strawberry or chocolate. No lollies unless you purchase from the bar. I've never been to an all inclusive 4 star where the food and drinks were so crap. Beds SO uncomfortable, pillows even worse. My children wanted to go to the kids club for colouring to get out of the sun, staff tired and gave the 'can't be bothered' attitude. Once told another child off for not listening! I was mortified!! Needless to say we did not take the children back.
Will be returning to Alvor, but not Alvor Baia Resort I'm afraid. 3 star is generous.
The cleaner removed and lost my property accidentally however nothing was to resolve, retrieve nor did I get an apology and I complained several times but customer satisfaction is not their strong point. The food is horrible so it's very hit and miss so brings snacks or be prepared to underwhelmed most meal times.
There biggest failure is the entertainment is shocking it's so rubbish and mediocre I have NEVER seen such a poor display. They need to invest in a proper projector screen rather than clipping two bed sheets up over the Alvor Baia sign that alone speaks for the standard of entertainment you'll receive. It's boring and extremely low budget all holidays I have ever been on including British caravan parks the entertainment is entertaining and this was pretty alarming how bad it is 14 days of it was dull so of an evening we sat in the park with the kids says it all really!
Bring your own beach towels or hire theirs for €20 each. Taxis to Alvor town is €4 each way or a 10-15 walk from hotel.

mins in direct sun light.
The pool area and outside bar was very good. Hard to get a table at night though. There is a great play area for the children too.
The most annoying thing about the resort is that they advertise a gym and charge €5 for the privilege to use. This is not a gym. It is a small room near the spa reception that has 2 treadmills, a cross trainer, an adjustable bench and a dumbbell rack ranging up to 20k. They must charge people to use it to limit how busy it is. It’s too busy with 2 people in there. They have space to make minor investments to make it a lot better too and justifying its presence. They are basically just ticking a box that they have gym access. Also it is only available from 0930am. That’s the only gripe in what is a great resort though.
Bus ran from reception to beach and back.
All inclusive drinks were decent and was bar service. Pool bar could get quite busy so was easier to get served downstairs. Snack bar 1030-12 and 4-530 was good and variety of things to eat. Breakfast was good. We felt lunch and dinner quite repetitive and only there a week so ate out couple of times. The evening entertainment really let this hotel down as staff tried their best but not same as having ‘paid for’ singers/ magicians, acrobatic acts etc. Overall a good holiday.
