CoCoBay Unawatuna garners high praise for its exceptional service, with many guests appreciating the staff's warm and attentive assistance. The hotel's cleanliness is repeatedly highlighted, from the immaculate rooms to the pristine private beaches. Its prime beachfront location is celebrated for both its peaceful ambiance and convenient access to Galle.
Luxurious amenities, such as spacious rooms with breathtaking ocean views, enhance the tranquil atmosphere. While most reviews applaud the rooms' cleanliness and spaciousness, a few mention minor issues with odors. The hotel's value shines through in its quality dining and generous portions.

We chose Cocobay for a group vacation, which included three families with 6 small kids (all below 5). From the moment of the first call placed, Dinesha who is the front office manager, spoke so pleasantly and positively that it was an easy decision. She was friendly and happy to reassure me with all my kid related concerns.
When we arrived, I didn't have huge expectations, having previously been spoiled by fancy hotel brands in the country of which there are many. But cocobay had so much warmth and great hospitality that it soon went up to my list of favourite stays. Each and every member of the staff were friendly and smiling and always seemed to magically appear when we wanted something. The hotel is small and compact which made it easier with the kids as we didn't have to walk too far to get anywhere.
The dining room overlooks the pool and beach but it's kid proofed so you don't have to worry about kids running into the pool while you eat. And the food....was SO GOOD! The choice was plenty and they hadn't skimped out on anything just because we were on a special resident offer (which most places do). Do try the Sri Lankan rice and curry, and also their hot buttle cuttlefish which had a tamarind twist. Yum! We had our evening drinks by the sea (the outdoor tables) only to be interrupted by a massive downpour! The restaurant was kind enough to replace the kids meal which had got abandoned while we ran inside :)
The room and bathroom too were spacious and the kids were happy with the jacuzzi in the bathroom. The only sounds that you hear at night are of the ocean which was very pleasant.
Even though the hotel was almost fully occupied, it never felt crowded or noisy as there is plenty of room, and we always had privacy to relax and enjoy ourselves.
The pool was a bit cold as it's in a shady part of the hotel so be sure to go when it's sunny.
No complaints at all, only praise and great memories! Thank you to all at Cocobay for looking after us so well 💜

Cocobay was one of our all-time favorite hotels. We are a family of four and stayed in the ocean privilege suite. The room was plenty spacious for all 4 of us and had a large balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel makes their own soap and allows you to pick your favorite scents for your stay. The hotel is located in a quiet area with its own private beach with plenty of loungers. The sea in front of the hotel is good for swimming. It is very calm compared to some other beaches close by. A few of the days there were some small waves, and we rented surf boards from some locals down the beach. You can see fisherman down the beach net fishing which is very cool to watch. This is a nice and quiet beach to relax on and then there are plenty of more lively beaches a short tuk tuk ride away to explore. The food at the hotel was great and there was a nice variety. Service was outstanding! All the staff is super friendly and my husband was never without a cold drink in hand. Now to the best part, the staff is really what makes this hotel the best. Every single one of them is warm, friendly, and does an amazing job making your stay magical! The staff at the front desk was always helpful arranging tuk tuks, recommending beaches to visit, and even set up a day safari for us. They had great communication and arranged everything to make our stay carefree. Kokila provided great service at all of our meals, and we truly enjoyed getting to know him. Another staff member wrote down words for me every day to help me learn the local language and made our son a boat before we left. We can not thank Coco bay staff enough for making our family feel so special and making our holiday magical. We wish to be able to return one day. Until then, Bohoma Istuti from the bottom of our hearts.

We stayed for 3 nights at CocoBay and without a doubt it is the efficiency and friendliness of all the staff along with the great food they serve that makes this hotel. On arrival we were warmly greeted and taken to our room early, we also took the opportunity to upgrade to HB as It didn’t look like their many other restaurants close by. It is a decision I would recommend making as the food quality is of a very high standard. We stayed in an aqua romance room and If I am completely honest I was a little disappointed with the quality of the room as some of it is looking very tired and needs replacing i.e. the patio doors, curtains and bathroom. Also the exterior brickwork on the patio around the plunge pool on the had broken up and the lounger covers certainly need replacing.
We attended sunset Yoga twice on the roof top with their resident instructor, Lakmal, and he was was really helpful in loosening my frozen shoulder and making sure you got the most out of the session. We also booked the lagoon cycle tour through the hotel and once again I would highly recommend it, as it is hard to believe that so much wildlife and beautiful scenery exists a few minutes away from the hotel.

My family stayed one night at this property. The main reason for us to choose this hotel was its location. It is naturally located with a private beach area that outsiders cannot reach. We were upgraded at the check-in to a room with a plunge pool but we refused it because it was dangerous with our toddler running around. The room was spacious & had a nice view. However, the entire property looked dated & rather dull. The main highlight of the room was the jacuzzi. The other highlight of our stay was the excellent food & their generous portion size. We were not satisfied with the lunch menu but we were given the chance to choose food which was not on the menu. We wanted to try out their pizzas but the waiter was hesitant & said that they can't switch on the pizza oven for just one pizza and that was the only disappointment we had. Overall we enjoyed our stay & we are hoping to visit them again.

Wow we loved our stay here - we had an aqua romance room with jacuzzi bath and private plunge pool right on the beach it was paradise. The hotel has effectively its own private beach and only 16 rooms so never feels crowded. The staff were amazing - it was our honeymoon and they gave us lots of lovely little touches and and a cake. The food is very nice too and all cooked by a chef no buffet et . The breakfast is divine. Lovely staff lovely setting lovely stay. We will return.

Cocobay is situated in an amazing location with a clear beach front.
In addition to the limited number of premium rooms offered by the hotel, I was amazed with the safety measures implemented in the hotel. Such detailed safety procedur made me and my daughter feel very safe throughout our holiday. The staff is well trained , very attentive and helpful.
The amazing location, spacious rooms and the most comfortable bed and the pillows are incomparable to any.
The pillow menu and the soap menu offered by the hotel was a definite highlight for me.
The 3 lovely days I spent with my friends and family was not enough and planning to return soon.
Cocobay is definitely at the top of my list to spend holiday down south.

We stayed here for 3 nights from Christmas Eve onwards and absolutely enjoyed our stay! There were 7 of us including kids and we had an Ocean Privilege Suite and a Sea Escape Deluxe room. The former was a large room with sleeping arrangements for 4 with a big sitting area and a balcony facing the beach. The views were lovely!
The star of the show was the food and the service though. Dinesha at the front desk took care of us from the reservation stage until we left. She was very friendly and took time to chat with my parents daily. Another star was Upul who took care of us during mealtimes on most days. He was super patient and friendly and by the second day knew our preferences and encouraged us to try new stuff. The food was delicious specially the Sri Lankan breakfasts with string hoppers, rotis, and various curries. Dinner was amazing too and we tried pretty much every curry they had over our stay.
The Christmas Eve dinner was good too and Santa made an appearance via boat on the beach much to the surprise and delight of the kids.
Other things we loved was the private beach just steps from our room with mostly calm waters. It’s a bit muddy but otherwise a lot of fun. Our daughter enjoyed her first surfing lesson arranged by the hotel. Another cool thing was getting a tray of snacks every afternoon to enjoy with tea in our rooms.
Overall it was a lovely stay and we would highly recommend this place.

We were there Half board on a weekend and the hotel was almost houseful. CocoBay took strict health and safety measures but they made sure that our stay is comfortable. Food was delicious and the small stretch of private beach is a great spot for a snap.

Hotel was an amazing experience. From the arrival to departure all the staff were very friendly, helpful and provided loads of advice on food, customs and locations of places of interest.
The our room was on the top floor with a tremendous view of the beach and sunsets. It was very clean and comfortable and the toiletry’s were of a high quality especially their speciality soap.
We were half board, the breakfasts were exceptional ranging from specials to full English, Sri Lankan light and vegetarian all excellent quality and again exceptional service.
The evening meals had Al a carte or daily specials which again were excellent. We had to ask the waiter not to bring too much as the portion sizes were just too much for us ( and I’m a big eater)
The drinks were reasonably priced and the cocktail specials were good value especially if you chose the local spirits which were on par to the branded ones.
Our faves were the Coco Punch (rum) Ayubowan (vodka) Old Arrack ( coconut type brandy) and the obligatory large bottle of lion beer
The pool are and private beach were immaculately clean with the staff regularly cleaning away any rubbish blown in or from the sea and there were the 2 friendly guard dogs (spice and Chia) who kept any and other strays or strangers
Overall we will definitely stay again

On our visit to Sri Lanka we stayed at 3properties, this was by distance the weakest but the most expensive one.
To be accurate it was the worst property we visited ever.It was more like a little guest house not a hotel;definitely not 5star hotel.
We had bookings for 4 nights but couldn’t complete our stay and left soon after we found a beautiful, luxurious resort in the unawatuna main beach road for half the price we paid in coco bay.
Positive point is only seafood was delicious others than that everything was awful.
-They didn’t have enough dishes or cutlery of the same to serve few tables although they are open to the public as a restaurant.
-Room was absolutely dated, rusted and moulded .
Black mould all over the bathroom curtain and the mattress protection sheet and pillows , bed smelled puke.
Awful beach towels, poor beach equipments all old and broken, poor maintenance of the pool although it’s very small.
Extremely small beach area looks private although it’s not but because it’s not in the popular area no one goes there otherwise it’s not private.
The beach is black and muddy rather than sand.
Overall.
All the photos you see on the booking websites are belong to 9years ago when they got everything new.
