The whole visit was a delight. Well priced stylish accommodation, in a peaceful setting with staff who could not have done more for us. It was not surprising to find out that this wonderful place was Swiss owned (of longstanding) and the combination of Swiss standards mixed with Sri Lankan charm and style was impressive. Close to the beach with...

The colonial villa has been altered to suit paying guests. For this this you get slightly odd rooms. At first we were underwhelmed. The room has no windows so is quite dark inside. The a/c is poorly positioned by the door. The bed is bordered on 3 sides so you have to climb over your partner to visit the bathroom....

The colonial Villa takes you back in time. The rooms are enriched by beautiful furniture and the feeling of being lost in a different century is unmissable. The Dome is a must see place in Unawatuna. Why not take a yoga class surrounded by peaceful vibes? Breakfast is just the best start you could possibly imagine. Wonderful. Simply peaceful and...

I came to the Secret Garden for a morning yoga practice which took place in a beautiful white and bright dome within the garden across a small creek. The class was intimate and the students arranged in a circular fashion which brought great energy to the space. We enjoyed our practice and stayed for a delicious breakfast before refreshing in...

Secret Garden is an authentic hotel with spacious rooms and a beautiful patio in the garden. The rooms are very rustic and dark, so it was hard to tell how clean they were. The Villa is located just a short walk from the beach and although it's close to the beach road, it was very quiet and had a peaceful...

I booked a room here for Christmas with my friend to stay at a nice hotel for the holidays. The location was good since the hotel is very close to the beach and in a quiet corner. We enjoyed the garden and hanging out on the terrace which is also the breakfast area. Breakfast and juices were amazing! Our room...

The place had a great athmosphere and very kind and friendly staff. Each morning they served top quality breakfast. I could do yoga in the dome, located in the garden, with their great instructor Upali twice a day - if I wanted to. The beach was just a few meters away from the hotel and it was easy to get...

Simonetta greets you at the guesthouse & invites you to treat it as home, which is wonderful to hear when you are a weary traveller ! Set off the main road it is surprisingly peaceful, but very convenient for the beach, restaurants, bars etc. The rooms are elegant, spacious & very comfortable, with everything you could need. Set in the...

My boyfriend and I live in Colombo and we had my dad visiting us from the UK, so we took a little holiday to the South Coast and stayed at Secret Garden. It was the most wonderful place to spend time together. My boyfriend and I shared one magnificent room with a spacious shower room and en suite and my...

This place is really special - so close to everything in Unawatuna, directly across the road from the beach but also very safe and peaceful. The staff are lovely - nothing was too difficult! I arrived too early but they still let me check-in to my room. The breakfast is really delicious and it was so nice eating on the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Secret Garden is an oasis within the lively coastal village of Unawatuna, just 20m walking distance from the beach. It boasts a 19th century Dutch-Sri Lankan Colonial Villa with bungalows and suites and a 4000sqm tropical garden. In the middle of the garden rests a large dome, offering 2 daily yoga classes, an on call Ayurvedic therapist for massage and wellness therapy as well as free space for dance, meditation and music. Our staff is courteous and warm. A large tropical breakfast is available daily at all times, and our two chefs are lovingly prepared to cook a great eastern or western meal for you on pre-order. Secret Garden provides relaxation and serenity alongside the opportunity to dive into the blue ocean of one of the country's most popular bays, experience the myth of the Rumassala Mountain and dance away at Unawatuna's many beach bars. May all be Welcome! ... more   less
