We stayed 3 nights at secret garden. Bungalow is very unique. Bathroom is located more or less outside, so you shower underneath the stars ;-) bed is huge and very comfy. Beach is just across the street. For breakfast try the swiss Muesli: great taste! Unfortunately the bungalow itself is quite noisy as you hear almost everything from outside. When... More

We have been travelling in Sri Lanka for two weeks now, we have never been 5 star hotel stayers and the standard of hotel stays during our visit has been very good. Hotel Secret Garden was so bad we asked our tour company to move us to another hotel. The room was not clean the bathroom had an outdoor shower,... More

I came to Secret Garden after already spending two nights elsewhere in Unawatuna- and i was in for a pleasant change of scenery. Although the bungalows are located just opposite the beach- because the space is nestled within a lush garden, it feels like you're in a different place altogether. it's the perfect space for those looking for a quiet... Hands down, my favourite spot in Unawatuna. I felt genuinely sad leaving this place but sure looking forward to visiting it again. It looks so discreet from the outside that I thought we were first going to lodge at someones home but right after entering the premises, it just felt like bliss walking into the villa. The expanse is surrounded... More

This beautiful boutique hotel and villa is elegantly decorated and furnished in a tasteful colonial style. The staff are extremely friendly and willing to support with all requests and our room and breakfast were just amazing. Would highly recommend to others - just a shame we didn't have time to try out the yoga!

We did the yoga here, classes are 1200 rupees, it was a good class but it was just a shame that it wasn't led by a local person. The dome it was very peaceful but it was hot in there. I would recommend yoga with asiri over this place, just due to Asiri!

The hotel we had pre-booked cancelled on us the day we arrived and we were left to fend for ourselves, last minute! However, my husband stumbled upon this quaint little place, tucked away in a corner, across the beach. Thankfully they had rooms available. This 140 yr old colonial villa, has been renovated beautifully. The place has a very homely,... More

This is a nice property. The staff is very nice and it has a very relaxed feel but most rooms (apart from one) are very dark with very lighting. Reading a book in the room is almost impossible, whether in the day or night! The room we were given was the brightest but did not have an attached bathroom, which... More

We stumbled upon this resort, by chance as our previous hotel cancelled that too on new year's eve! There was only one room available, and the Simonet the owner was kind enough to let four of us spend the night at the hotel without any prior booking! The villas are designed beautifully, Every detail carefully set in place to create... More

Unawatuna is a little busy for my tastes but Secret Garden offers a tranquil place to stay. I stayed in a cabana with my boyfriend and it was very comfortable, with a large bed and inside/outside bathroom. There are various other rooms in the main house, all a generous size. The surrounding garden is large and lush and the yoga... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Secret Garden is an oasis within the lively coastal village of Unawatuna, just 20m walking distance from the beach. It boasts a 19th century Dutch-Sri Lankan Colonial Villa with bungalows and suites and a 4000sqm tropical garden. In the middle of the garden rests a large dome, offering 2 daily yoga classes, an on call Ayurvedic therapist for massage and wellness therapy as well as free space for dance, meditation and music. Our staff is courteous and warm. A large tropical breakfast is available daily at all times, and our two chefs are lovingly prepared to cook a great eastern or western meal for you on pre-order. Secret Garden provides relaxation and serenity alongside the opportunity to dive into the blue ocean of one of the country's most popular bays, experience the myth of the Rumassala Mountain and dance away at Unawatuna's many beach bars. May all be Welcome! ... more   less
