Detailed Reviews
Really lovely helpful reception staff! Fantastic location walking distance to shops and town centre and a 5-10 minute drive (or very cheap taxi ride) to all the Monteverde activities.
Lovely comfortable hotel reception/ lounge area to relax in. WiFi in the rooms that worked really well. Decent hotel breakfast.
They don't serve dinner but doesn't matter as many great restaurants and cafes very close by.
Cleanest hotel rooms for our stay in Costa Rica.
Not so great sound protection - we could hear the people in other hotel rooms talking - I'd bring earplugs.
Even though the kitchen was closed the Reception staff let us get cups of herbal tea in the evenings which I really appreciated.

The hotel staff was very kind and always interested and asked if we were missing something and how we could help.
Walking distance from restaurants.
Clean and tidy place with a beautiful view and excellent breakfast :)
The only downside is that the room is a bit small but the bed is very comfortable and the room is always polished so it makes up for it :)

Hotel Cipreses is a definitely a little more on the basic/rustic end of hotel stays, but if you're spending all of time exploring Monteverde it provides all you need! The location is great, very close to hiking/nature watching opportunities as well as town. Parking was a little tight as it seems there as only 5 designated spots, but the receptionists helped accommodate our vehicles without issues. There wasn't really any hot water for the showers, but we only stayed 2 nights before moving on so it wasn't a big deal to us. The breakfast in the morning was delicious!

We booked this hotel because we didn't have a car and wanted a hotel that was walking distance to town. It's not right in the center but it's about a ten minute walk into town so not too bad.
Generally though, it's okay for the money but not somewhere I'd recommend. Here's why:
Service: Reception tries to be helpful but they really aren't. I asked them which company they would recommend for the canopy tour and they weren't able to give me much useful info. They can book any tour but I actually found that doing it online myself was cheaper than their rates for both Selvetura and the Jeep Boat Jeep transfer.
Breakfast: It was free so that's good but the food itself wasn't great. The eggs felt like they had been sitting around, they had bread but no butter or jam, and a few other things but really only the fruit was edible.
The room: Our room was freezing (Monteverde gets cold at night) and the walls were super thin so we could hear everything around us. The shower was cold water and the wifi didn't really work except near reception.
So overall, the room was clean but that's the only real thing this had going for it.

These are cabins in a section with sheet metal roofs that have no AC or heating. There is no fridge, no coffee machine, no hair dryer. There's no hot water.
Monteverde is a place for one night only, there is not much to do around. We liked the area, but 2 nights is too much. The place is located in the clouds so it rains and rain echoes on the tin roofs making sleeping impossible.
Lunch is rudimentary. Coffee is bitter.
The staff is really nice and accommodating, they allowed us to put our stuff in their fridge like there are no in the rooms. In short, our agency unfortunately booked with Expedia making it impossible to cancel, we had to request a change of room because there were deposits on the bed I had removed and then reappeared following the withdrawal. We were told it was normal as they are wooden houses... but I didn't like the idea of it falling on my face while I was sleeping. In short, not my best experience in Costa Rica!

Very surprised by the bad comments. On the contrary, we found the hotel comfortable for 2 nights, with hot water and a decent breakfast. The welcome is very friendly and the hotel is well located, not far from Santa Helena and Selvatura parks. Negative point, the soundproofing of the rooms and the few parking spaces. On the other hand, the night tour offered at reception for €35 is not worth the trip, even if you are transported there and back.

Delicious typical breakfast in the morning, staff very willing to go above and beyond to make our stay special, Louis, him Mother and his team are clearly great hosts with great recommendations on tours in monte verde.
Can’t wait to return again, this time next year. . Comfortable beds, hot shower, local sourced shampoo and body wash. Walking distance to all of the downtown areas, lots of great dining and shopping for local creations and coffee

Old and noisy hotel. No Wifi or air conditioning (but not very hot because it is a little high up). Average bathroom. Helpful staff. Breakfast not very extensive. Bedding a little soft and narrow. We will not recommend it.

The place is a real armpit. You can hear everything at nice like your camping wether you wanted to or not. The hotel aka motel had no air or fans even. The place was riddled with kids running around in the court yard. The only good things about this place was it’s location. The location was around a lot in the town.

I loved this hotel. The room was so comfortable - because the interior was lined with cedar planks, it actually had a pleasant cedar smell inside! Very cute property that is away from the main road enough to be a little quieter than the Santa Elena hotels. I just really liked the vibe here. The staff was also very nice.

Monteverde is an area rich in nature and nature related activities like the coffee plantation tour and cloud zip lining.
There are some hotels that did look nice, but the majority of what I saw was bed and breakfast/hostel type accommodation.
Yes, but it's mostly in Spanish. We used an HDMI cable to connect our computer to the TV and brought up our Slingbox from home. Alternatively, use that same HDMI cable and bring up USTVNOW for six basic channels free from anywhere.
Yep they do!
I think we did it around midday.
