We had a strong sense of past glory. Weeds everywhere, a decor from the 80s / 90s, an owner who seems tired and cannot oversee it anymore. We felt a little sorry for the guy. The room had no AC. The window could not open because of the bugs and the passing traffic, making it very hot in the room. Bathroom has no ventilation so it was even warmer there, but our room had a good shower and comfortable beds and was spacious enough for 3. The swimming pool was also very much appreciated. With all the reviews from other guests we were looking forward to eating in the restaurant during our stay but it was a bit disappointing. The food was not bad, but we lacked passion and it was mostly very standard French; lots of butter and fat.

Free wifi, outdoor swimming pool, very good quality food, obviously cooked from fresh every day. A large restaurant, separate breakfast room, bar area with seating, bedrooms with views over the surrounding countryside. Superb breakfasts with fresh bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, a large variety of fresh fruits, home made jam, bacon, egg and sausage and more. All beautifully laid out. The hotel is set on a quiet road in a lovely garden. The bar has a variety of excellent wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks. We travelled as a group by coach and stayed for 2 nights in all which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had 2 nights as part of a group at this lovely family run hotel near Cluny, France. from the moment we arrived we were made welcome by the proprietor, who runs the place with his wife, doubling up on occasions as receptionist, chef and waiter. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast buffet was one of the most extensive and finest I have ever experienced in over 40 years of travelling in France, with a selection of fruits, fruit salad, patisseries, fresh breads, home made conserves, cold meats, a variety of cheeses, hot saucisses, sliced bacon and eggs as well as a variety of teas and coffee. the evening meals were made with local produce and we had two excellent regional dishes on our two nights - chicken and boeuf bourguignon with generous starters and desserts. The local wines and drinks were all reasonably priced and altogether it was a truly memorable stay in a traditional French hotel of a type which is sadly becoming fewer every year, and which i would highly recommend.

Room Tip: some rooms face the road, but it is a local country road with little traffic.

Bit of a house of horrors meets Fawlty Towers? The owner come care taker come pool attendant come receptionist come barman come chef tried ever so hard but succeeded only in performing a wonderful impersonation of a Scooby Doo multi tasker... Expensive for rooms and location, dinner (and accompanying wines)expensive, breakfast an absolute disaster - cold (frozen!) sausages, bacon and I think, omelette though I couldn't be sure. It was, dear traveller, a blessed relief to get back in the saddle and resume our bike tour even if it was destined to be in to 60 km per hour head winds for our last leg back to Chalon sur Soane....preferable to being stuck in la Place. A wide berth is this travellers recommendation to you.

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. Always liked it until this time. It was very busy so we did not mind the very slow ( and inefficient) service. Both of us ordered the set menu at 26 Euros each and we both ordered the Steak Frites option. When this arrived the frites were a very strange orange colour and tasted awful, We guessed they had been reheated or refried. The steaks were overcooked and tough. So we sent them back. At this point and later on there was no offer of apology. But it gets worse. We asked for and received two cheese portions to keep us going until the desserts came, Both the cheese (3 small slices with salad) and the desserts were OK. But the real issue was when I asked for the bill. I reminded the young (and polite) waiter that we had sent back the main course, but when the bill came it was for two full menus and the drinks we had had. So I went to the bar to query this and was asked to wait for a more senior person. After more than 5 minutes wait someone wearing a chef's unfiorm appeared and his first words were an aggressive statement that we had eaten the steak dishes. He was anything but poilte and helpful. I informed him that we had not eaten the food but had returned it after tasting it. Very reluctantly he tried to add up each individual course we had eaten, but did not seem to know how the till worked! Eventually after adding up the price of our starters , the cheese and the desserts and drinks he announced a total 8 Euro discount. This on the price of 2 full menus and drinks! At no point did he apologise for our bad meals and he seemed cross that I should request a discount on the bill. As I left the bar I thought of Basil Fawlty and started to chuckle to myself. Mr Fawlty is alive and living in France! So I shan't be returning to this restaurant. Shame as it was on my regular list when I visit the region.
