Booked 2 nights at this beautiful hotel, offered a stay in their cottages which we accepted, only to be disappointed....some 3 odd kilometers from the hotel literally in the middle of nowhere, which turned out to be in the owners house and the 2 rooms ,their children's rooms...More
I accompanied my husband on a cycling trip with our village. There were 14 of us and we all stayed at Le Grand Hard as our base. 10 went cycling in the area during the days and we used the car to sight see. We...More

We had dinner here and two of our party had terrible stomach problems which lasted a few days. The hosting was superb and the atmosphere wonderful. We did notify the management of our situation but they decided not to reply
This is a lovely hotel with a great ambience, friendly welcome, good food & location. Main quibble was the beds/bedding - very hot & sweaty though the weather wasn't. I'm guessing there was quite a bit of foam. Also wasn't sure whether to be reassured...More
This is definitely a nice looking hotel from the exterior. The welcome was non-existent, just a surly receptionist. The room itself was actually very basic - the double bed was actually two singles pushed together that continually moved apart leaving you in a the valley....More

We stayed there when we were bicycling, no problem. You can take the train to Carentan which is a wonderful town filled with lots of WW II stuff. From Carentan it's a nice ride to Le Grand Hard, we stopped a lot along the way at Dead Man's Corner and a lot of the roadside memorials. Also stopped in St. Marie du Mont at the charcuterie and at the Musee de la Liberation, so we took a round about way to get to Le Grand Hard, maybe 5 hours. I would think you would want to stop at all the same places. From the hotel it's under an hour to Utah Beach, and then it's an easy day trip to all the WWII attractions north. There is so much to see and do in this area that we could have easily spent another couple of days here, but we left to ride the Tour de Manche itinerary to Saint Malo, then down to Rennes.
If you are interested, I wrote about our trip to the D-Day Beaches and Normandy on my website, Experience France By Bike. I would wholeheartedly recommend...not fancy, just nice and comfortable!!! Wonderful bicycling too!!
