August 16 to 21, 2020. Larry and I just got home from another wonderful trip to Quatsino Lodge. No surprise but once again we cannot say enough good about this lodge and Walter and Blondie and the staff. To summarize, we have been to many fishing lodges across Canada and can honestly say that none compare. The service, the fishing and of course the amazing food will leave great memories and stories (and a few extra pounds) with us until our next trip. Many thanks again Walter and everyone at the lodge for a great trip.

Fished July 14-17. Wonderful fishing, scenery, great food. Excellent social distancing!!! Absolutely felt completely safe and care was taken in all aspects from our room, to our own table, to our own cereal jar. A great time to explore BC, catch fish and meet some great folks.

This trip was perfect, the staff makes you feel like family, the guides are great, very knowledgeable and very friendly.

The lodge is a good facility with comfortable rooms, the fish boats are well looked after and clean.

The fish boxes work well to take your catch home on the plane with minimal fuss from the airline.

We were so pleased to find Quatsino lodge, such a gem, with stunning views, amazing home cooking and incredible wildlife. Primarily a sports fishing lodge we spent 3 wonderful days Kayaking in and around the sound to some truly special and wild places. If you want to get off the beaten track you can’t get better than here. Blondy and Walter are incredibly welcoming and knowledgable, going out of their way to make sure you get the best possible experience.
Rooms are cozy and comfortable with lots of communal areas for chatting and relaxing, the food is epic and wildlife on the doorstep - we saw plenty of black bears and sea otters, humpbacks, seals and sea lions as well as plenty of birds and marine life.

Should have done this last summer but better late than never. We (DH and I) have been going to Quatsino Lodge to fish for the past 9 years and have already scheduled our 2018 trip. This alone says it all.
The lodge itself is situated overlooking a quiet bay. You can walk to the small village of Quatsino with it's historic church..or hike to a local lake for swimming. Rooms are simple with shared baths.Comfortable beds that can be two twin or 1 king. Bedside tables. Hooks on the wall. (Never had an issue with getting a bathroom) Some have views to the water, some to the bush. You're there to fish so no time really spent in the room except for sleep.
Main lounge area..a few big chairs, some outdoor seating on the deck. A BIG long table where everyone eats together at the end of the day (fishers/guides). Food is always amazing. Blondie is a superb cook and there is always something delectable on the menu. Usually one day there's a big feed of crab. Before dinner there's a plate of appies out on the bar..self serve... You can buy wine from the lodge or BYOB.
Food in the boat...when you get up at 4:30AM you head downstairs to get cereal, buns, fruit, etc.self serve. Your guide will take a big cooler down to the boat which will have snacks and lunch food in it. If you have a special request the lodge will do their best to accommodate ( they know by now I hate pickles LOL so they don't put them in any sandwiches for our boat)
You will have your own boat and guide. You will not be packed in like sardines with other people fishing. When you book into Quatsino you are the only one(s) in your boat for your booked time. You may be out on the water for a long day or a short day..it will depend on how soon you limit out. You will want to be thoughtful of getting back in time for your guide to clean and cut your fish before dinner. All your fish will be cleaned and packaged in the portions you specify, vacuum sealed, labelled, bagged. Done expertly so that it keeps for a long, long time. We have eaten salmon that we caught over a year previously and it tasted as good as if it were caught the week before. The folks at Quatsino know you're going to want to eat that salmon and take great care in the prep.

Conservation is a watch word at Quatsino Lodge. The folks there have been involved for many years with the Marble River fish hatchery and with raising salmon for release. They realize that without good salmon stocks they'll have no business. Safety on the water is also a priority. Boats are well maintained. Waterproof boots are available are jackets for the ocean ( it can be cold..even in July I sometimes wear long underwear LOL) For the ladies who love to fish the best news is the boats have heads on them so you can stay out for hours and hours without needing to "go ashore".

Family. The lodge is a family run business and you'll feel like family after one visit to Quatsino. You'll meet other people from all over the world and share stories of the days fishing, of past travels, of places to visit in the future. The staff, the guides, Walt and Blondie will not only treat you like a valued guest..they'll make sure you have the best trip possible.

If by some chance one of your group doesn't like/want to fish, there's awesome kayaking in the inlet and up some of the rivers. Blondie can also arrange to have a "spa day" for ladies if they don't want to fish ( I think advance notice is required) and personally, I can't imagine not fishing!!!
There's an abundance of wild life in the inlet..eagles, dolphins, sea otters, humpback whales, and of course bears.
While it may seem like a whole chunk of change to spend for 3 days, the experience can't be beat..plus we always come home with a lot of fish which, when I look at the cost to buy in the store, more than makes up for at least 1/2 the cost of our trip....not to mention the amazing scenery of the north coast and just the joy in being out on the water from sunrise on.
Quatsino Lodge qualifies as a hidden gem in my books and I can't wait for this years fishing.

The rooms are clean comfortable and private. The meals are unreal, the staff are superb. The fishing. THE FISHING. You are treated like a king. You spend all your energy fishing and eating. Maybe drinking too. But if you are looking for a fantastic trip this is the place to go. In the last 11 years we have never gone home without full boxes. Walt and Blondy are what all lodges want to be.

This will be my 11th year staying at this lodge. Purpose of the trip is salmon fishing, relaxation, and meeting people. I am a 30 year veteran of salmon fishing and Quatsino sound is always above and beyond other places. First of all is the owners Blondy and Walt making sure you know you are in the friend category versus just customer. The lodge, food, and boats are first class. Little touches like a water pitcher on your night stand, boats cleaned every evening etc let you know all the big things are handled. You just cannot beat this place.

This very well may be a fishing lodge, but for my wife and I it was one of the best journeys we have ever taken. We have travelled from Perth Western Australia to get here, about as far away as you can get. We didn't come for the fishing but for the scenery, sea life and wildlife. And we got everything plus plus plus. Firstly the hosts, Blondie and Walt, are so much more than hosts of a lodge, they are the guardians of the area, of the salmon and their love of everything organic and natural pours from them in every sentence. You cannot help but be caught up in their enthusiasm. We had two bucket list items left in this part of the world, to see Orcas and a Bear, preferably up close, but not too close if you know what I mean. Day one was spectacular viewing, sea otters everywhere and a Minke Whale surfaced just beside us. We caught 14 great fighting salmon and released all except for two that sustained damage during the fight. We followed rocky headlands and stunning beaches. Day two we headed up marble river which truly is a spiritual place, almost reverent to feel and experience. River seals following us like naughty puppies. We spotted a trio of baby Mink swimming across the river only meters from our boat. The scenery was beyond description. We climbed a small cliff on the gorge wall to view the salmon congregating, waiting for their surge upriver to spawn, hundreds just keeping their spot in the river. We spotted a bear briefly as it scampered away and on the way downriver, spotted another on the bank beside us. Stunning to watch so close. On the trip back to the lodge we came across a school of 7 Orca, all traveling in our direction and for 30 minutes we idled a respectful distance away and watched in wonder. You might come for the fishing but there is so much more to see and learn from these two wonderful people.

I just returned from the most incredible 4 days of fishing at Quatsino Lodge situated on the northeast shore of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia. A fishing trip was on my bucket list for many years. Having actualized this wish my expectations were exceeded. There was not one glitch in the entire experience; even the weather cooperated. The hospitality was outstanding, the food was wholesome and the guide was not only helpful and friendly, he took us to the fish, which were plentiful. We maxed out our limit on coho and chinook salmon, caught 3 hallibut and cod to boot. Even the wether cooporated.
These guys really know how to find the fish while offering you the best in hospitality. My son, son in law and I cannot wait to return.
