Enjoyed our brief stay here – good stop off on way to Lisbon. Welcoming owner (Jose) met us on arrival. Nice room, cool despite 30 plus temperatures. Lovely garden for sitting out reading, with small swimming pool. Our satnav struggled a bit but easy to find on main road by a junction. Very quiet as very long driveway to an interesting house
Thank Mike B

A charming owner and very helpful staff at this Quinta just 4 kilometres out of town. The place had a magical feel to it. Far from looking totally pristine but for anyone with a feel for beautiful buildings, scale and uniqueness it was wonderful. No bar but the owner sold us some very good wine at such a low price. He also organised for the restaurant we had booked to send a car to pick us up with no charge (tip obviously). Rooms were homely, clean & with a garden access. You could sense the hundred years of family history.

For the fifth time in the past two years me and my wife spent some lovely days in quinta do coalhos!
The main building where we stayed dates back to back to 1906. It is perfectly preserved. On the first and second floors lives mister josé alberty. He is the perfect host and the soul of quinta de coalhos! Everything you need he is always ready to provide, showing you good places to eat and to visit. He is always concerned with the wellbeing of his guests. In the main building you can sleep in the blue, yellow, or grená room! There is also a suit! They are all beautifully decorated! There is also a little cottage where you can stay with your family. Breakfast is served in a very nice sorrounding, both indoors and outdoors. Dana, is a very nice ukrainian lady, that provides the service along with a smile in the morning. When you arrive at the farm after going out to visit some place or to have a meal, you will be greated
By Armani and Chanel, mister albery's, fox terrier and jack russel.

The pool is the perfect place to meditate by the sound of the cicadas! There, beautiful statues whisper about romantic secrets from another time!

Quinta de coalhos is thus, the perfect place to rest!

In the beautifull landscape of ribatejo, with its olive trees, plains, and sun heat, all framed by the tagus river, I allawys find a peace that no other place can provide! There, time can stop and you can relax from the daily struggles! Don't be surprised to find mister alberty in the pool once in a while!

He works a lot,but he also knows how to enjoy life!

Fairy tale museum Quinta with interesting architecture!
The house is over 100 years old and has been in the owner's family since his grandfather built it. There are a lot of interesting Portuguese antiques inside!
Good breakfast with meat, cheese, freshly squished orange juice etc
The staff (Danna) is very nice and helpful.
The owner is extremely friendly.
Great location to see Tomar Castelo, Batalha and Alcobaca monasteries, Castelo de Almourol.
For dinner - go to Santa Isabel in Abrantes, great restaurant!

This property is a fin de siècle rural mansion that has been restored, furnished, and decorated to the style of about 1900. It is absolutely full of little tchotchkes, objects, and historical collectibles. There are many large common rooms and areas available for the use of guests. It is very nicely landscaped.

Some guests may be delighted by this. Others - particularly those looking for more modern conveniences, such as a work desk in the room, bright lighting in the room, and reliable Wi-Fi throughout the premises, may be disappointed and frustrated. Wi-Fi is available, but coverage is spotty. The location is well off the road and very quiet, but the house itself is not well soundproofed - you will hear other guests while you are in your room.

It's not a hotel, and does not offer the same functionality as a hotel. It's more of a destination in itself for those who appreciate historical Portuguese architecture and furnishings.

Rather expensive by local standards - from €65 a night in the low season to €100 a night in the high season, with an excellent breakfast included.

Quinta de Coalhos was built at the beginning of the 20th century, in a Romantic "Belle Epoque" architectural style. It has a refined decor that evokes a past marked by its era and offers unique and More exceptional comfort framed in the countryside. The house is surrounded by a garden area designed in harmony with nature and animals including 'Tangerine' the pony and the horse 'Quincy', and a pair of Jack Russells “Chanel” and “Armani” who love to be petted are never far away. Immediately adjacent are delightful traditionally tiled patios, the perfect spot for relaxing in the sun. Coalhos is located 4km from Abrantes, 2km from the “typical” village of Pego, known for its traditional cuisine, and 500m from the Tagus River. Having been in the family more than a hundred years ago, in the 80's it came into the hands of the current owners Isabel and Jose Alberty, who rebuilt and transformed it into a permanent residence. In the 90s they decided to dedicate part of the house to an inn. The lower floor of the building, which once served as a warehouse and olive oil mill, is now a comfortable facility intended for tourism. The old lake gave way to an original swimming pool and the ornamental bushes were replaced by lawn and colored flower beds, although the fountain keeps the ancient memories intact. The lodge has three bedrooms and one suite, with classic and rustic decor, a private bathroom, television and Wi-Fi. It has a large living room, equipped with a fireplace, TV and DVD, perfect in which to relax. For leisure, we offer a snooker table, card table and a dart board. Children have not been forgotten. Besides the swings and slides in the yard, we have books and a large variety of games. More Information: Abrantes has much to offer. Visit the historical part of the city, which should naturally include a trip to the Castle. Once there, take the opportunity to observe the course of the Tagus River and the surrounding region. Stand in the centre of the metal plate that is at the top of the tower and rotate 360⁰ on it, following the geographical information inscribed on the plate. Try and find Quinta de Coalhos -it's not that simple! The Castle is in perfect condition, and there is also the Municipal Museum Lopo de Almeida and the Palace of the Governors. Near Abrantes, visit the Almourol Castle located in the middle of the Tagus River, about 10kms from Quinta de Coalhos. We also recommend a visit to the nearby typical villages of Sardoal and Constancia. With prior appointment we can organize Sports and leisure activities, an experience or a horseback ride, a canoe trip down the Tagus and Zezere Rivers, a pedestrian circuit and a visit to the river beaches, waterfalls and streams in the region. Quinta de Coalhos also has a venue for small events and business meetings. Gastronomy Very close to Quinta de Coalhos is the village of Pego, known for regional delicacies. In Tulipa or in the Churrasqueira Pegacha, you will find all the typical food of the region, from the crumbs of cabbage with entrecote to the “carvoeiras” crumbs with baked cod. Other references are the restaurants “Santa Isabel” and “Sabores da Cascata” in Abrantes. Less
