Amazing hosts, very nice and warm couple made us feel homely. Loved the breakfast especially the muffins and egg fried. Wonderful experience, will surely visit again. They also recommended us the places where we could go and local restaurants.

Can't say enough about Doug and Diana and their BnB. This is our second visit. They have thought of everything to make your stay a home away from home. Fantastic breakfast, comfortable room and common sitting area with all the amenities you could want. Diana's cooking is amazing and both are so welcoming and hospitable. We always enjoy chatting with them - like visiting with old friends.

The Taylor-Made B&B is a lovely home-style inn tucked away on a quiet side street in Lion's Head. It proved to be a fantastic place to spend our holiday on the Bruce Peninsula! While there's a few quirks, none of them should stop you from making this your home-away-from-home on the peninsula. Read on for details...

LOCATION:
Lion's Head is on the Georgian Bay side of the peninsula, about 30 minutes south on Route 6 from the town of Tobermory at the tip. Depending on traffic and other factors, it's about a 4 hour drive from Toronto, and about 5 hours from Detroit MI. The Inn is one block off of the main road that runs through the town of Lion's Head, placing it within easy walking distance of the heart of town, the harbor, and the beach. A short 5-minute drive puts you at the trailhead for the Bruce Trail and its side-trails in Lion's Head nature preserve -- a surprisingly un-crowded and beautiful set of hikes, apparently missed by the zillions of hikers who jam into Bruce Peninsula NP for the trails beyond Cyprus Lake!

PROPERTY:
The B&B itself is a split-level, 2 story house with two rooms on the ground floor, three rooms on the upper floor, and the kitchen & dining room on the split level in between. There is ample parking for a full-house of guests. The two ground-floor rooms have ensuite baths, while two of the upper-floor rooms have a half-bath ensuite, but a shared bath/shower. The third upstairs room has no ensuite and must use the shared bathroom. There is a common living room on the lower floor with couches and a TV. The kitchen has a separate guest refrigerator for guests who want to bring their own food for lunches, or other perishables that need kept cold. The owner's dog lives on-site, but she's very friendly and laid-back, and didn't have any interest in getting in guests' way!

ROOMS:
The rooms were meticulously clean and well-maintained. Our room had a double-sized bed, though a few do offer queen-sized beds. The bedding and pillows are very soft, but quite comfortable. The ensuite half-bath was most likely a converted closet, which makes it VERY narrow and definitely a one-person space! It was nice, however, to be able to brush teeth and do most of our evening routine in the room, though. The shared bathroom is quite large and well-appointed, but since the shower is shared between 3 rooms, there's occasionally a wait. Water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, and there was plenty of hot water available, though if others in the house are using water at the same time, the occasional water temperature swing can be significant!

BREAKFAST & AMENITIES:
This B&B is probably more accommodating and laid-back about breakfast than any Inn we've ever stayed in. They offer you a choice of a full German-style breakfast, with meats, cheeses, excellently soft-boiled eggs, smoked and pickled fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, home-made muesli, cereals, home-baked breads, jams and other nibbles, served family-style. OR, if you prefer, they'll do an American-style breakfast of pancakes or other traditional breakfast foods. All served at a time of your choosing -- they don't have fixed seating times, so the flexibility of being able to name our own breakfast time was fantastic! The food was superb, and the hosts hang around during breakfast to chat and answer any questions that guests might have about the area, and planning for the day.

In terms of amenities, there was fast & reliable wireless Internet available throughout the house. The shared bathroom (and I would assume private bathrooms) had all of the standard toiletries available. There is a hot tub on the property, though the innkeepers ask for a separate optional charge of $7/day for its use and maintenance, if you want to use it -- we never had the opportunity to use it, as we arrived back at the Inn late each evening.

The Inn's owners are very supportive of the area, including the Bruce Trail association, and participate in the trail Inn program. They'll pick up and/or drop-off guests arriving on foot at trail points around Lion's Head, so you can spend a night at the B&B without having to arrange for transportation separately during your hike.

STAFF / OWNERS:
Barbara & Dave are superb hosts, and we can't say enough good things about them! From the moment we arrived, they were accommodating, friendly, and highly knowledgeable about the Peninsula and every local activity you could conceive of. They seem to know about half of the peninsula's residents, and don't hesitate with recommendations for anything -- usually with someone they know and will vouch for personally! As other reviewers have noted, the pair are avid bikers, and so it's clear that the B&B is motorcycle-friendly -- they even specifically offer indoor parking for any guests arriving by bike. The couple really made our visit to the area a great one, and we appreciated all of their help and attention.

OTHER:
Lion's Head (and the Bruce in general) are a "Dark Sky" area, so most of the buildings and streetlights have been modified to reduce light pollution. As a result, you can go outside the Inn on a clear night and see the Milky Way right overhead! The Inn is on a dead-end street, and at the very end is a nice dark spot that is excellent for stargazing. We saw more stars and satellites from this spot than probably anywhere else we've ever been in southern Canada or the Eastern USA!

In general, we were very pleased with our stay at Taylor-Made B&B. While the lack of full-ensuite bathroom facilities makes it tough for us to give the Inn 5-stars in general, we've seldom stayed at a property as friendly or accommodating as this one, or with owners who clearly love their work as much as they do! They went the extra mile anywhere they could. Top marks in service, cleanliness and food! Highly recommended to anyone looking for B&B-style lodging on the Bruce Peninsula!

We made a last-minute decision to spend some hiking time together at the tail-end of the September long weekend. The only problem was...what do we do with the dog? With great relief, we found Taylor-Made B&B. We had a clean, spacious room, with lots of room for the dog. Barbara and Dave provided us with tips for restaurants and maps. Thumbs up on the DNA Fish & Chips Truck! We also were given a choice of a German-style breakfast, or whatever else we desired: waffles, pancakes, eggs. We opted for the German-style breakfast, which included some delicious homemade breads, jams and the best muesli I have ever had. (Oh yeah, I cannot forget my perfectly cooked egg!) We would definitely like to come back. Thanks again!!

Dave and Barbara have a very nice B&B and although my husband and I only stayed one night after arriving on the ferry, we enjoyed our visit very much. We had an attractive and comfortable room, there's common space where we chatted with other guests, and a very fine breakfast the next morning. Unusually, many choice are offered, with a variety of breakfast items to suit both North American and European tastes. Nice people, nice place to stay!

My wife and I had a lovely time staying at Taylor-Made B&B. Barbara and Dave are great hosts, friendly, cheerful and knowledgeable about the region. Breakfasts were delicious and Dave made great suggestions for interesting activities. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and the whole house was sparkly clean. Fantastic experience.

This is a great Bed & Breakfast. Both Dave and Barbara were very friendly and welcoming. The house is very clean and comfortable. Nicely decorated. We felt right at home. Breakfast was wonderful and we had more than enough delicious food . Lots of homemade, healthy and fresh options. My friend and I had the house to ourselves for the evening yet we enjoyed Dave and Barb's company at breakfast. In hindsight, Barb and Dave (if you're reading this) we should have stayed the second night at your place ;) Although the home-to-home service will not be offered next year, we are grateful for the drop off at our hiking starts and finishes (loved Dave's stories) and were very impressed with the lunches (provided for a fee). Especially that yummy dessert! Will definitely be coming back.

This is probably the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed in. Barbara and Dave are so friendly and welcoming. We felt at home the moment we walked in the door. They have literally thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Very quiet and restful. Enjoyed the hot tub after being on the trails for about 7 hours. We also enjoyed their variety of books.

Previous posters have spoken of the breakfast...it is truly the best on the Bruce. Don't miss Barbara's German pancakes...they are the best! However breakfast wasn't just about the awesome food, it was also the chance to visit with other guests...we had guests from Australia, Germany and China, as well as Canada while we were there. The conversation was awesome and we really learned an awful lot over breakfast!

Being a gardener, I particularly appreciated Barbara's garden...both inside and outside. We walked around, sharing hints and looking at all her plants. That was so relaxing!
We look forward to staying with Dave and Barbara when we are in the area.
