The Tay Motel in Waubaushene is right off Exit 149 of Route 400 (about 70 miles north of Toronto, Canada) in an area (the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron) popular with vacationers from Toronto and Buffalo.

I’ve stayed in the motel for several days on numerous summers. It’s been owned by the same family and has been modernized and renovated over the years. The motel provides good, basic accommodation with a nicely decorated bathroom, comfortable bed, small bedside table with lamp, simple dining table & chairs, cable TV (with, surprise, lots of sports channels), refrigerator, a coat rack, and small a/c. This is a drive-up motel, and all rooms are on the ground floor with parking for your vehicle just a few feet away. Both the bedroom and bathroom have openable small, high back windows that allow for ventilation. There is no Wi-Fi available. There are plenty of insects in this area of Canada, and you’re sure to find some interesting varieties resting on the exterior of your room’s door at night and early mornings – but you wouldn’t be here in the first place if that sort of thing deterred you.

In summary – nothing fancy, but an ideal base for those taking advantage of the area’s outdoor attractions.

4 adults stayed for 2 nights between August 1-2, 2015. First time staying in a motel and we were so surprised to find such a clean room. It looked as if it were just recently renovated. The staff was very friendly and informative. In fact, we inadvertently left behind a very valuable item and they called us shortly after we checked out to let us know!!!

We stayed two nights. The room was very clean.
Well equipped kitchen...missing something?Just ask! Wifi worked great. Loads of TV channels movies and music channels.Lovely little motel, pet friendly and close to beaches marinas and boat rentals. 20 minutes to Midland and close to Georgian Bay parks and islands.
Only thumbs down...could use a coffee maker in the room All in all a good stay.

We were only here for one night and were new to the area. The service here was amazing, the owner is really nice and always ready to help if we had any questions or needed some help. The nightly guests and permanent guests are also very welcoming. The place is not perfect but for the price it’s still really good. Highly recommended.

Not sure how this is showing 4 stars for a review. This is, by far, the most disgusting motel I have stayed at in my life. Photos taken September 2021. Filthy. Shower knob fell off in my hand. Towels were not clean or folded. Microwave was awful - shower and bathtub gross. Spiderwebs and dust all over on fan and in corners. Had to pay UP FRONT by e-transfer full amount. Raised prices for long weekend. Complained and received $60 cash back but full amount should have been refunded. Smoke alarm literally HANGING from ceiling. Health and safety hazard.

Room not clean. Not smelling fresh. No tv service. Had to go back to reception for towels ans toiletries. My son and I both got covid 4days after our say there.. Never going back. New owner, it's not like it has been all the many years i have been a welcome guest there.

My stay at the Tay motel was very enjoyable, the service was great, the owners were extremely friendly, the rooms were very clean, it's close to the marina which is great if you love to go out on your boat or other water vehicles. There open all year round too which is great for summer and winter trips

Friendly staff, really clean rooms. Nice and furnished. Easy to get to and from off #400. Would travel just to sleep there again. After cap sizing my boat at 1:00am. I just needed a place to dry off and stay warm. Decided to drive down the 400 and stumbled across this Gem. Best motel I've been too..!!

I booked a 2 night stay on Monday Aug 230th/21 for this weekend and was told that there was availability on Friday & Saturday night. The front desk staff wanted an e-transfer for the room. I told him I would like to pay by Amex and wanted to leave my CC number for the HOLD. He said I could pay when I got there. I phoned today letting him know we might be arriving after 6:30pm because of traffic and then he told me that the hotel was booked solid. I said I know, I have a hotel room for 2 nights. He then told me if I didn't pay by e-transfer, I don't have a room. I'm VERY disappointed at the poor customer service the NEW OWNER of the Motel presence. It says on the website they take VISA or AMEX and he will not honor my reservations. This is a rinky-dink way to run a Motel/Hotel. Don't take a chance by booking here, once you arrive YOU may not have a room to rest your head. If I could give it ZERO STARS I would.

Booked a night at this hotel for August with two rooms for my family. Reservation confirmed in September and just been advised that hotel has overbooked and they cannot honour our reservation. Frankly disgusted. Property has clearly had a reservation request for a longer stay and decided to bump us. Have now incurred additional cost and stress to find alternative. Looks like a nice hotel but not much use if you can’t be sure whether they’re actually going to give you a room.
