This was my first visit to Parthenay and Trevor and Dorit's home (although my partner had stayed before) - and it wont be my last! We were so genuinely warmly welcomed and made to feel this was our home whilst staying here. Our room, although simply appointed, was extremely comfortable and very clean and full of character including a stone trough. The house is Medieval and does have stairs and characterful layout. The breakfasts were amazing with everything you could desire and more! Made extra special by the home made specialities of the region and jams. No where else have I stayed has matched Dorit's breakfast and care to ensure we had all we wanted. The location of Maison Saint Jacques is perfect, in the centre of the Medieval town. Cannot wait to return!
We find it very difficult to come up with more positive things than have already been written regarding the Maison Saint Jacques, so we will merely add our enthusiastic voices to the chorus of accolades. My wife set her heart on visiting and staying in Parthenay's medieval quarter and when we arrived, we truly felt like Dorit and Trevor had been expecting us, not just as the next guests, but us personally. Every effort was made to assist us to enjoy our brief stay and it was very evident that Dorit knew her new home town very well. Her recommendations for restaurants, the best walking route, and how to enjoy the Wednesday morning market were spot on and extremely helpful. We received an e-mail with driving instructions ahead of our arrival and were able to park directly in front of the maison. The suite of rooms for our party of four was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a quiet and restful night. The maison is well-located for exploring the medieval quarter and walking to restaurants and shops. Internet service was fast and dependable. Breakfast in the morning was beyond bountiful, with more items than could actually fit on the large dining room table. Dorit had prepared several home-baked breads and pastries which were an extra treat. Coffee was copious and robust and of course there were many options for tea! I would say to inquire whether it is possible to get a glimpse of the restored upstairs apartment that Dorit and Trevor call home but this will probably be offered before you can ask. Don't miss Trevor's fascinating collection of accordions, and you might just be treated to a performance. We can't wait to return to our home away from home in Parthenay!…
Two nights in the home of Trevor and Dorit's lovely medieval home / bed and breakfast. More breakfast offered than you could want. Very attentive and obliging. You won't go wrong there. Usually plenty going on locally too i.e. Music festivals etc.
We were on a trip to Nice from St Malo and it was at this point we realised we could not cycle as far as we thought in a day...... about to give up on the trip we spent a night here and with Dorit's help the following morning succeeded in changing 25 hotel bookings on booking.com on an iPhone.... a miracle in itself! Dorit lent an unflappable hand with the technology and served a wonderful breakfast. We spent the night in a room with a stone trough that was 650 years old....if only they could talk.... Lovely couple, cannot recommend too highly
If you go to Parthenay, do not hesitate to lodge in Maison Saint Jacques; first of all, the house is situated in the medieval quarter of Parthenay and is therefore beautiful and well situated; your hosts are very nice and kind and the accomodation is great - we had the appartment at the floor level - it is large, well equiped and confortable; the breakfast is made for Gargantua and for all the tastes (yogurts, cereals, bread, cakes, viennoiseries, cheese, meat, juices, hot drinks, fruits...). Bref, a place to go - but plan in advance as this place is very in demand!
