We stayed 3 nights and loved everything about our stay. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is amazing. We especially loved the terrace restaurant. Matosinhos is a really chilled area to stay and very easy to get into centre of Porto. Definitely would stay again.
Chose this hotel as it is close to a metro station and being by the sea we knew the area would be flat which would be great after walking the hilly streets of Porto. The yellow hop on bus, purple route, also stops 100 metres from the hotel. Efficient friendly checkin, great room, number 2 of only 10 rooms with all you need with separate eating area All very modern interior, lovely dining area with outside terrace. There is also a chill area on floor 2. Only irritant was the wash hand basin as the sensor was temperamental. The hotel is linked to it’s attached fish restaurant and even with sardines being grilled outside, the smell was never noticeable in our room. Thanks to all.
We arranged to stay here as our last night in Portugal before flying back to the UK next morning. It was perfect for our needs, and at a very good price, courtesy of Booking.com. Very handy for the airport, and parking available via an arrangement with the fish market opposite. The room was comfortable and well stocked with most of what you would need for such a stay, while the reception staff were friendly and very efficient. The restaurant, reviewed separately, was also excellent for an evening meal and the following morning’s breakfast. The only thing we couldn’t get our head round was the wash basin tap, which worked on a sensor like in public toilets so struggled to get a bowl of hot water for shaving. Minor thing overall and didn’t diminish our overall experience.
The hotel is small and our room and bathroom were compact, but very comfortable. The staff are very friendly. It is a good place to stay if you don't want to be in the middle of Porto. It's a 10 minute walk to the metro which takes you into the centre of the city in about 35 minutes. Lots of very good fish restaurants on the same street, grilling outside - try the sardines! We also ate in the Hotel's restaurant which was excellent. If you are on the yellow hop on hop off bus, get off at the castle and walk back to the hotel along the lovely beach promenade.
We booked this hotel partly because of the only high reviews and partly for the way that the hotel is presenting itself image wise on platforms such as booking.com and tripadvisor etc. Hotel looks much brighter, newer and larger than what you find in reality, both the actual bedroom as well as the bathroom. Making a good presentation is of course always normal but in some cases you have to be careful not to make it seem to be more than what it really is. The hotel is not living up to the photos, the area of the bed is very small, the toilet is in between the bedroom area and a sitting area. The rooms seem large but that is mainly because it has a lot of useless space. In my opinion not really a clever way in terms of construction. The bed itself is fair to say that it is really really comfortable and this is a huge plus for the hotel and what really saves it from a really overall score. We had one room the first night with windows, we opened them but had to close them immediately again because it was facing directly down to the road of restaurants and the grilling was done just under the window, this was the air we would get straight into our room. Furthermore our room this first night had a massive problem with the shower. The water cloaked and started flooding the entire bathroom. We had to put towels all over the bathroom in order to avoid the water from entering the room. All our towels were used and they were soaked and we had to ask to more towels that evening. We ended up asking for a new room, so they gave us another room the day after on the top floor but it was still facing the road where they would be grilling all day and night so no chance to open the windows for fresh air. Bathroom in the new room did not have the problem with the water but in general the bathrooms are not very comfortable, the sink area is tiny and not really functioning on a long term. The sitting room in my opinion is needless, serves no purpose and is rather sad actually. The breakfast was very poor and so was the service from breakfast staff. Very small selection of items, coffee was really poor and in general the standard was low but you can ask for a dish of fruit of your choice which was the only good thing. This hotel is doable for 1 overnight but nothing more.…
