BEWARE! Our First and LAST visit.... Rude staff. No wonder when you meet the hotel management...what a childish and arrogant attitude. The worst: nobody cares, they just focus on milling their cash-cow till it last. Disappointing massages, non-professional treatments, Lack of care, no interest on customer satisfaction. Both hotel and their services (and their minds) have not developed over last decades, it is about time to wake up ... The cherry on top: they overcharged at check-out. Clear conclusion: NEVER AGAIN.

As a treat for my Husband and I we booked for Christmas eve and Christmas Day 2019. This was one of the worst hotels we've ever stayed in terms of service and staff. I booked well in advance and a lady contacted me in relation to food and beverage and spa treatments. She sent me a menu for the Christmas Eve and on receiving it I advised it wasn't for us. My reply was asking if there was anything open nearby or alternatively at the hotel. She replied that she'd check but never did!! Consequently we still came and checked in with the miserable man on reception. we had a look round and it looked amazing with all the spa facilities and restaurants to choose from. I booked some spa treatments for Christmas day. We decided to have a walk up to the town even though we'd not had a response from the lady that messaged me. Unfortunately nothing was open for dinner so we walked back to have dinner in another hotel venue. Nothing was open. and disappointing was not the word. So I rang for some room service food and there was just a recorded response from a lady in Spanish. Undeterred I popped down to reception and the miserable and rude receptionist was very unhelpful....no food available and no drinks!!! Consequently we went to bed very thirsty and hungry. We were extremely angry as we were never told that Christmas eve nothing was open apart from a set menu we didn't like or want to eat. The following morning we had a horrible breakfast and decided to leave and not stay for the following night as the staff and service was appalling and rude. I went to reception to check out and was told that I had to pay the 2nd night as I'd booked through a booking site. They would not give a refund despite our complaints even after speaking to a rude lady on the phone. they even had the audacity to charge us for parking and would not release our car until we paid for both nights. A nasty set of staff in a beautiful hotel. I will never come back or recommend this place. No communication about facilities over Christmas and it totally ruined it. Consequently we had to find another hotel at an extra cost because we were treated so baddly and not made welcome.

Response from Archena123, Guest Relations Manager at Balneario De Archena Hotel Termas
Responded Jan. 27, 2020
Good morning Mr. Parratt, we are sorry about your comments. You booked a stay at the Hotel Termas, which only included accommodation and the staff of Balneario de Archena called you to inform you that on Christmas Eve the only catering service provided at our facilities was a special dinner with a fixed menu, offering you that possibility and you declined. Of the restaurants that were open around that special night or if there were places available, we lacked that information. Regarding the friendliness of the staff, we´re sorry that we didn´t fullfill your expectations, in our satisfaction surveys more than 99% highlight this point positively , although we respect your opinion since the perception of each client is very personal. Thanking you for sending us your comments, receive best regards

How this hotell could consider themselves as 4 star is incredible. 2,5 maximum 3 stars. The hotell is old, have very noisy room on the first floor as they are 1 meters from the road outside. The rooms have very thin walls and you hear everything from your neighbour. The check in took for ever, the clerk explained EVERYTHING to a Spanish couple in line. The breakfast is average, please don't call it bacon when it's ham..... Cold rooms and an AC which were very noisy when having it on "heat".

This is an interesting location and hotel but it’s an old hotel which is not in any way a 4 star hotel. The beds are hard, the walls thin, the staff are friendly, the underground spa thing is very interesting, the breakfast is fine but think 3 star. The water park/spa thing is good fun, we paid extra to do the spa tour/circuit which was fun but not worth the money. It got quite busy and there isn’t really anywhere to relax, just lots of different pools, saunas and steam rooms plus showers. The biggest disappointment was the Aqua restaurant, which is supposed to be the nice restaurant. On arrival at 8pm the restaurant was lit up like an operating ward in a hospital (see picture), the main course I ordered was clearly not fresh but instead they’d used salted fish which hadn’t been properly defrosted or soaked so I had grey, poorly cooked, incredibly salty fish - almost inedible. My wife’s cheesecake was frozen solid. We took a video of her trying to eat it - laughable. Really, really poor dining experience.

Getting there by car is a little nightmare due to the structure of the town and confusing road signs. But all that changes radically once you get into the hotel. Rather than a single hotel, it´s a sort of complex with two or three hotels and some other facilities, and they nicely keep the atmosphere of the spa towns of old. My hotel had that vintage touch with its modernist architecture and Andalusian inspired ornaments. Everything in the hotel: floors, banisters, furniture... was impeccable clean. The gentleman at the reception desk was absolutely outstanding, providing us painstakingly with practical and very useful information. The rooms are regular sized with high ceilings but not exceptional and a bit outdated. Beds were comfortable, being the bathroom extremely clean but a bit old. The main point of interest here are the spa facilities. They are great really: the big heated swimming-pool is really heated (that´s not the case in many other places), and the indoor facilities are great: huge, clean, with strong jets, and some whirlpools. The only downside perhaps, is that due to its size it tends to be a bit overcrowded. I guess they also have external clients, so in all the experience is rather funny instead of relaxing.
