We booked a room in one of Balnearios Archena’s hotels, Leon, to spend a nice afternoon in their spa after driving 1,5 hours there. When we checked in, only then did we find out, we were told that the biggest part of Balenarios Archena’s spa is closed because of renowations. Only the heated outside pool was for us to use, going there and especially out of there was chilly. Nor washing after the pool was not easy, difficult to find a shower. When showering I had to stand in soapy water. It is a pity that Balnearios spoil their good reputation, the facilities, the scenere otherwise are very nice. The rooms are the same after 10 years, no changes.

Response from BALNEARIO DE A, Guest Relations Manager at Hotel Leon
Responded Dec. 16, 2019
Dear customer, We´re sorry that you have this impression of Balneario de Archena, however, I must clarify some of his statements, becausethey are not correct. The Spa thermal pools is not closed, it is open at 50%, only one of its three thermal pools is closed for annual maintanance, (cleaning and maintenance), the other two being in perfect use (glazed and outdoor). That is why you have been offered free access to the thermal circuit balnea whose additional cost is of 25€, being the usual cost of the Spa thermal pools of € 12. I hope We hope that our statement has been useful. Best regards. Customer relation department

Perfectly located 3* hotel, clean, smart, helpful staff. We had 3rd floor rooms, this floor had terrace balconies high walls so not much view but lovely to sit out on a warm evening. The resterant was typical Spanish buffet, lacking in imagination, but none of us left hungry! The hotel has free access to the spa pools, warm water sooo relaxing, nice clean feel lots of sun loungers, we didn't have any massarges or treatments, just relaxed in the pool area.

Hotel in good location for the spa & swimming pool areas, a little out of town for other amenities. All staff are very friendly and helpful especially if you try a little spanish. They also provide at time on checking a international speaker to show you around the facilities. Some rooms slightly out dated, and at time of booking you must stipulate that you want a double / matrimonial bed other wise you will end up with twin beds. The mud treatment is very good for the joints, the water & mud massage is excellent. Take a old bikini or trunks / Speedo style swimwear pref in a dark colour. Most Resturants of a night were very bright inside and cold take a light jacket or cardigan. Book at reception for a table outside. When booking do not book the breakfast in the hotel, bar Azul by the river has much better croissants, toastados, fresh orange and coffee / Tea’s. The restaurant by the pool arrive before 1 - 1:30 or after 3oc otherwise you will queue. Send in just the one person to add you name to the list while every one else enjoys the pool. You must wear swim hats for everyone !! Most people walk around at all hours in the dressing gowns provided, bring flip flops or beach style shoes for you stay. If the weather changes have other options for a day out. Overall a good few days in a nice location by the river.

Biult over and around a Roman baths, it is fed from hot springs so the water is a constant 53 degs. You can see the excavations of the Roman bathhouse, as the spa is built over and around them. A wonderful experience.100mls from benidorm.

We used the hotel León for a short weekend break at the Balneario de Archen. The hotel was quite basic with only buffet service available for breakfast and evening meal, there was another restaurant on site for the evenings, opening at 2100. The rooms in the hotel are basic but OK for a short stay. The Spa it´self offers a relaxing time in the pools and many treatments are available at extra cost. Parking is available on site but not at the hotel.
