A small traditional pub in a side street of Hove just off of the main thoroughfare that links Brighton and Hove, the pub has no food, no Sky TV, no loud music and no gaming machines, just a pub, BLISS! Originally called the Station Inn the earliest record as a pub was 1867 and was originally the Brunswick Police and Fire Station hence the name. There is a stark difference between the old pub and the modern guest rooms. I took the pub over in 2010 and converted the living accommodation to 3 en-suite rooms. I am helped by a great team, our manager Warren, Gervase, Maggie, Kevin and Simon in the bar and Wendy with the rooms. They all make our guests welcome as do our pub customers and Beau (our dog). Unfortunately, due to the age and nature of the property, access for some people may be difficult. If you have any special needs please give us a call to find out if we are able to accommodate you.

Detailed Reviews
We went down to Brighton for my graduation. This pub was a great little find by my dad. Only has three rooms and we booked all of them.
The staff were amazing and although the pub was only small it was very busy with very friendly locals. It is located down a side street therefore it was not noisy and the pub shuts at 11.00pm so there is not lots of noise to contend with. The breakfast is provided on a tray in your room and is continental, so if you want an English fried breakfast you can go to any if the restaurants or cafes that are local. Would definitely stay here again

Room was a good size and very clean.. Breakfast was a variety of cereals and a croissant with butter and jam. In the little fridge was orange juice, fresh milk and 2 bottles water. This was provided daily. Perfect location to promenade and buses to town and railway station. We often walked one way and got the bus back. Pub underneath was very busy but no noise filtered up to our room on the second floor. The stairs were quite narrow but staff helped with luggage. Plenty of restaurants around area and a longish walk or short bus ride to Hove.

From the minute you walk through the door you are greeted and made to feel welcome not only by Sue but by the regulars too. We stayed for two nights as part of our daughter’s 21st birthday celebrations so had two double rooms. The rooms are spotless and the beds were really comfortable. Also it was lovely and quiet at night (have stayed in Brighton before and expected it to be much more noisy as it’s such a busy, lively town). The separate entrance is great for if you return after closing or if you just want to nip in and out, however both nights we went and had a drink in the bar before going up. The complementary breakfast was enough to start the day off, four choices of cereal and a fresh croissant with butter and jam - and real milk (thanks to the little fridges in the rooms). A great little find we really loved our stay and will definitely be back even if Beau the dog didn’t want to talk to us.

Cannot speak highly enough of my experience here. Pub is in a very good location (a mile away from Brighton City Centre or a 10-15 minute bus ride) with a bus stop being located less than 5 minutes away. The pub is also a short walk away from the beach which offered me a very nice view on my morning walk. Hosts were very hospitable from the first moment I arrived. Even though I arrived earlier than the advertised check-in time, Lucy was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Amenities provided are great (2 bottles of water, orange juice, milk and butter in the mini fridge) as well as extensive options for breakfast (a range of cereals and croissants too, which was a nice touch). Throughout my stay, I heard very little noise from the pub below (I was in the downstairs room). If you get a chance, stay here. It is certainly a hidden gem of the area.

Sue has done an amazing job of making the rooms above the pub so clean and inviting. Towels changed every day and continental breakfast is understated. So much detail in the accommodation even down to a fan when it’s warm or needed for old fogies like me🤣. The best part is the pub. I have never been anywhere so welcoming and that’s down to the locals who frequent here and made us all so welcome. Like part of a family😘 I can’t imagine going anywhere else if I was to come to Brighton again. So close to all amenities but all you need is the Bow Street Runner 😘😘

Perfect short stay whist visiting Hove for County cricket. Warm welcome from owner Sue who prepares the rooms meticulously. Whilst small, the room had everything needed and was squeaky clean with a very comfortable bed. Continental breakfast (cereal, croissants + fruit served in the room with milk, juice etc. in a small fridge) - perfect. Traditional pub downstairs a bonus and lots of restaurants close by.

+1
The Bow Street Runner is a sweet and charming little public house on a quiet side street in Hove. The pub and the accommodation are run by the fabulous and friendly couple Sue and her husband Kevin. The rooms, which are above the pub, are immaculate, warm and cosy. Continental breakfast, croissants, cereals, coffee, tea, milk, fruit juice and yogurts, available in a mini fridge in the room, are freshly supplied every morning along with fresh cutlery and crockery. The rooms are clean and fresh, beds comfortable and the bathroom immaculate. Sue herself cleans and freshens the room everyday at your convenience. There is Wi-Fi access included and a TV with a lot of channels. This place is an absolute find for anyone looking for cosy, warm, private and off the beaten track hospitality, of the kind it is hard to find these days. My husband and I highly recommend this place. Words are not enough to describe how lovely the Bow Street Runner and it's proprietors are. We recommend go see for yourselves.

My wife and I have just returned from an overnight stay at this fabulous pub - and thoroughly recommend it.
We were given a really warm welcome by everyone (including Beau, the dog, who is gorgeous) and the room was great.
You get a continental breakfast served to the room, the shower was powerful, and the bed really comfortable. Can't say anything bad about it at all.
Obviously, it's in a busy area so you'll hear some noise outside as everyone makes their way home but that's to be expected and doesn't last long.
The pub itself is great and only three minutes away from the seafront - close to the i360 tower so in easy access of Brighton's attractions.
We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Room above small pub just off main Brighton-Hove road. If you get it cheap it’s decent value for a simple overnight. Small room. Simple continental breakfast supplied night before inc fresh croissant in a bag. All fine. No fuss
