Great place. Great taste of Chile. Wonderful hosts. Nice place to start your visit to Chile in a smaller town than Santiago. We planned to stay 1 night just to recover from a long plane flight but stayed 4, using it as a base to hike in natural areas among Chilean Palms and climb a mountain Darwin climbed in La Campana Park. It is easy to get a bus in Quillota or to drive to a metro station to take the metro train from Limache to visit Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. Very friendly and helpful hosts. In the country near Quillota. Be sure to bring their detailed directions on how to get there or arrange to meet Ivan, Luis, or Clori in Quillota. Good food. Vegetarian options. Interesting restaurant and bar nearby called Donde El Bujo, which you can walk to, or borrow the Hotel's bikes to ride to.

Hostal Amigos is run by a very friendly family. It's a little hard to find, but following the detailed instructions is part of the fun. It's not completely quiet, but Latin America is not meant to be! Quillota itself is a magnificent town; somehow, despite its size, it never sleeps over the five day Latin weekend, and Amigos is walkable from Quillota or La Cruz. Quillota has a lot of interesting nineteenth century history, having been an important link between the Puerto and the capital. Great local produce, much fine local beer (Greiscol - arguably Chile's best) and some good places to eat if you like researching. Amigos is a destination for explorers.
