It is rather a long way to get there. From the main road 7km on a very bumpy track, then one needs a boat and another 2hours through spectacular landscapes until you reach the spot. It is quite basic, but charmingly done. Food is great. No internet and no mobile reception (unless you climb the hill) Lots of activities are...

We also,as Purplemartina, stayed during eclipse and had two lectures by astrophysicist (charming and clever professor Charles from Antananariva)- it was really very kind of the owners to organize such an event for guests! The hotel is located on the lake and you have to reach it by boat. The lake is clean and you can swim in it (we...

We stayed for 3 nights during the eclipse. They had arranged for an astrophysicist to give some talks which went really well. The staff were very welcoming, they really made the effort. It's a very remote spot accessible only by boat but guests have the use of 2 boats during their stay, They did a fabulous zebu kebab, the most...

We spent two nights here. The rooms are indeed simply furnished. However this did not matter at all as the setting is beautiful and the staff are helpful and well trained. We thought the food was excellent. The outlook is very peaceful and it made a change to have to be without Internet. There is a reasonably priced laundry service....

This small resort is in an amazing place, on the eastern lakes, accessible by boat. Is probably hard to run a place in such a remote area, but travellers should be aware that this is adventure accommodation. Ask for a lower bungalow, preferably by the beach. There are some up the hill - quite a climb for the last two....

We spent one night at Bushhouse and wished we could have stayed longer. It is a very nice lodge on the banks of Ampitabe Lake along the Pangalanes Canal. It is about 1.5 hour ride down the Pangalanes from Toamasina (Tamatave) on motorized pirogue. The Pangalanes Canal is beautiful so getting to the Bushhouse is half the fun. Our room...

This place is at an ideal location and that's where the positives end. The common area is basic and rooms uncomfortably primitive. Bathroom ... scary. Bugs, mosquitos and very large geckoes are indigenous to rooms. The food was barely edible. Electricity is available twice daily for about few hours. If possible, go to Palmarium resort ... it looks better although...

strange to see that reviews are quite different, when i look at the pictures it must be the same place that we visited. It's basic but back to nature, so when you like that you're ok here and must not stay in the more luxurious palmarium.

Spent two nights here in 2011 with my Mother - the rooms are basic - back to nature - but not in any way comfortable, and plenty of mosquitos. The food was truly awful, and largely inedible. We were glad to leave.

Very simple. Quite clean. They really need to invest in some pillows -we had pieces of foam. The food was pretty tasteless and basic. Visit to Palmarium was amazing. Nice staff, willing to help. Very cold at this time of year. Should take warmer sleep clothes and jumpers for evening.
