We have all heard the joke about a pub with no beer well our first day was the hotel with no food! After a 5 hr journey arriving at 5.45 we were told on check in that the pre booked half board dinner had to be taken approx 6pm!! No time to relax, no time to change hardly. This was clearly unacceptable so we asked for a later time or room service of some sort, even a sandwich and some drinks. Not available so sorry no food tonight. We ended up finding a local pub for fish ‘n chips! So I made my complaint leaving my business card, explaining that whilst I was not on duty I am a hotel inspector of over 30 years experience. Sandy Lane Barbados, Burj Al Arab,Dubai, Reethi Rah, Maldives just a few of the hotels I have been involved with so I feel I do know what I am writing about. Management was nowhere to be seen over the 2 days nor was any contact made to apologise, the only gesture was not charging for the dinner they could not offer. We paid extra for a balcony with the nice view to perhaps enjoy a gin & tonic with the sunset. Not being able to obtain room service this idea was a negative and a disappointment, having said that the balcony was disgusting with the railings full of moss, not 4 star standard. The room was acceptable and the bathroom good quality. Service was reasonable and credit where it’s due to Nacho who looked after us very well one evening in a helpful pleasant manner. This is not a hotel to go to in my opinion if you want the good quality experience you normally get with McDonald Hotels.

We stayed for a long weekend with our two children. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was great - good food and great service. The kids loved being able to swim in the pool. The apartment was a really good size and was very clean. Overall a great stay and I would recommend to others.

Not as bad as some 1 stars gave made out to be! We booked for 2 nights ultimate spa package as wanted a long weekend away with our dog to switch off and relax. Like anywhere at the moment, capacity for restaurants etc are limited so you need to book dinner/breakfast slots in advance, easy enough done with a phone call, so don't just turn up at 7pm and expect a table! Seen a few guests do that, and unnecessarily argued with staff. Notice up at reception to say they can't do lunch at present, which again was fine, easy enough to get something when out. Very dog friendly, staff made her feel welcome as well. Plenty to do in the area and lovely gardens to walk in. Could even arrange to eat dinner at the bar etc if didn't want to leave her. Booked spa package...but couldn't get anything booked in, I understand it was covid with staff so bookings got thrown out. Although disappointing, not much can be done but they did give give us room credit in compensation which we were happy with. Package came with afternoon tea...which was needed to be booked 24hrs in advance...no one told us this, but again staff apologised and managed to get us in. Rooms clean & reasonably maintained. No issues at all. Wonderful black out curtains. Gym/pool - again need to book slots because of covid, which was not a problem and more enjoyable knowing it would not be super busy. Gym...I'd miss, not very well equipped. Sub par for hotel standards. I've not given 5 stars as there was poor communication, but I know the whole hotel industry is struggling with staff at the moment so I gather there were a few new starts, but to me the main thing was thst the staff were super helpful & polite in rectifying any problems which really is the main thing! Suggestion to hotel to email 24hrs in advance of arrival of a list of things to check/book - might be easier for guests and staff and no excuse for them to complain if not done.

Shocking experience. This lodge stinks, it’s dirty, aged and not fit to live in. There is no senior manager on site. Staff are helpful but they don’t have the authority to refund as that’s what I asked for. Booking.com tried to contact the hotel, with no success. A guest house would be better than this place. Do not book this place.

Beautiful gardens and friendly staff, particularly Justin, a retired sub-mariner who serves breakfast with lots of personality and went out of his way to make my mother and my 9 year old daughter feel special.
