In july, we had a 2 weeks stay with our 2 young kids. First time Crete, no idea what to expect. We do not like mass tourism. This little family hotel exceeded our expectations on many levels. There is a very nice atmosphere. First of all, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They love childeren! The hotel area is well maintained, the rooms and bed good, ... There is a nice swimming pool, enough sunbeds and it's pretty quiet around the pool. Perfect place for some relaxation with a drink. Compared with the many pictures available on the internet, the place looks even much better in real. The restaurant is nice as well. They serve only one dish and a couple of side dishes per evening. Quality was good, had some good foods. A few times, it was not my cup of cake. But not a problem, there are many good restaurant nearby (close to or at the beach). The weekly barbeque is also very nice! The breakfast was acceptable, there is some room for improvement here. Matala (5 à 10 minutes walk) was also very nice, nice shops, clean beach, ... . There are plenty of car rental companies in the village, you can get a car for a good price at the hotel. Rent a car, the environment is beautiful, roads are good. Also important: The staff followed all covid-19 guidelines. If we go back to Crete/Matala, we will return for sure to this place!…

In this hotel we had the best vacation .... It is a small hotel with a pretty large swimming pool ... There is a beautiful garden with many flowers .... The rooms are Comfortable and very clean ... Also there is a small pool bar .. With perfect cocktails and nice snacks .... The staff is very helpful and smiling ... We felt like home as soon as we arrived at the hotel with the lovely smile of the receptionist

One Really Nice Hotel with beautiful and big garden full with flowers...! The staff is very friendly and kind... You must try the food and the cocktails to the pool bar.... The Rooms is very clean and quiet..!thanks for the perfect holidays.. we will be back....!!

We had a very nice week in hotel calypso It is a most cozy and beautiful hotel in Matala !!! Nice, clean , quiet, hospitality There are a parking place , volley , billiards the breakfast is better than what we pay Next year we will came back again !!

A little gem that under-sells itself (thank goodness!). A simple family run hotel with a focus on cleanliness, careful detail, and good value. The hotel rooms sit round a very attractive small pool, surrounded by grass and shading from trees. The grounds are neatly kept with flower beds. Some rooms are on the ground floor, ideal for families od=r those with mobility needs. The rooms (in the main block, and the two newer blocks) are of good size, and include air conditioning, fridge, tv, and a good if small en suite. Furniture ample. Nice balconies to every room, idea for sitting on especially for that evening drink, with the garden and pool making the air less harsh.. Breakfast is simple Cretan-style cheese, cold meat, some salad items, and bread, usually with one extra item per day. However, with a good supermarket in town it is perfectly possible to bring your own additional favourites. The veranda restaurant is a very pleasant morning setting. The tariff incudes dinner. This is simple Cretan cooking, self-service and limited to what can be cooked in bulk - but that includes many Cretan family dishes. The quality is superb, and there is a choice of two main items and at least two vegetables, a potato offering and a pasta item. However, the half-board price is so modest that it is not extravagant to treat it as bed and breakfast and on occasions forego the paid-for dinner and go and eat in one of the many excellent fish and other restaurants in town. Matala town and beach are 10 minutes walk away. The service bus from Heraklion (a comfortable coach, 5 services per day) stops almost at the front door - no need to hire a car (daily hire is also available 200 metres away).…

For breakfast I would suggest everybody to do what most people did. Go down to the store and buy some extra food to spread on your bread. For dinner there was close to nothing to chose. If you arrived early you could get some leftover meat from the day before, but otherwise you would have one type of meat, one type of sauce and one type of extra (e.g. potato, rice or pasta) per day. The internet was also not exactly great. Some days there would be no internet at all. When the internet worked you could most of the days only use it by the pool. Our room was just next to the pool, but still too far away. On the last two days the internet worked in the rooms. The service was good, but the cleaning lady often entered the room while we where inside. There's no way to show that you do not want to be disturbed and they do not knock first. The bed was hard as rock, during my 12 days there I didn't get a good night once…
