Detailed Reviews
A lovely, secluded, clean and friendly hotel. It's so close to the town, but far enough away that you can't hear the bars. It was so peaceful! Elena and her family are wonderful hosts, and Matala itself is beautiful, relaxed and definitely somewhere I want to return to, provided I can get a room at this hotel again :)
Thanks Elena for the tasty breakfasts and for always being so friendly and helpful,

I was very concerned when I read previous reviews, but on arriving at Villa Dimitri was pleasantly surprised.
OK so the showers don't meet English standards and the rooms are fairly basic but the location and peacefulness there more than makes up for it.
The swimming pool is in a lovely tranquil setting overlooking the mountains, and on many occasions there were only a few people there.
It's a five minute walk to Matala itself at a pleasant stroll and we found it nice to be a bit out. As for the resort of Matala, I have never stayed anywhere with a nicer or more friendly relaxed attitude.
Enough said that I'm now saving for next year.

We are a family of 3 and stayed here for a couple of nights in April. There is free parking and a lovely veranda to sit out on. It is located a short walk out of town, maybe 7 minutes, and surrounded by fields, excellent for birdwatching. Unfortunately, the pool was drained as it was the start of the season and probably considered too cold. The room was adequate, clean and a bit tired but perfectly fine, free safety deposit box, small bathroom, plenty of hot water, and a fridge. It was clean but there were quite a few mosquitoes, so we kept the door closed. A kettle/tea making facilities would be brilliant. We enjoyed our stay. Matala is lovely. This place is good value.

More like a B&B rather than a hotel. It is a bit isolated so it is very quiet. The services are basic and the breakfast a bit poor, however the rooms are very nice and comfortable, all in all great value for money.

A stones throw from the beach and tavernas but far enough away to relax by the pool and sip a few cold glasses from the bar. Rooms are great value for money with simple yet hearty breakfasts. Dimitris Villas has family run touch to it and gives you a taste of Greek holidays just as they should be....

Off the main road so is quiet but only five minutes walk from Matala Beach. A small family run affair which looked like it had been recently decorated. The rooms are small but spotlessly clean. Room facilities are good and include TV, air conditioning, a safe and a fridge The beds are reasonably comfortable. Continental breakfast is good value for 5 euros extra. We did not use the pool or bar facilities. The free internet didn't work in our room though was mostly fine outside except it kept dropping out. Reasonable price and would definitely stay there again.

Only stayed for one night on a mini tour of southern Crete, we wish we had planned for longer. All staff very friendly and helpful, room was small, but everything you need, free air con, free safety deposit, free wifi, also fridge in room. With small private balcony on our upstairs room. The hotel is probably around 30 years old, but we found our room to be well maintained and very clean. Breakfast was normal continental fare, which we found perfect for us. We plan to stay a little longer, hopefully same time next year. We felt that we paid very little, but got a great deal back in return.

I would just like to say I was so happy there, very calm and peaceful!
Really liked the colourful apartments and so clean too.
I enjoyed getting to know the wonderful family and spending time with them even though they are so busy all the time yet still always try to do the very best for everyone that was noticed big time!
Eleni and mirianthi are very good cooks and were giving guests homemade food ! Not what you usually get in a hotel , here much more of a personalised touch! Wow!
Also Eleni made fresh tasty biscuits and would give them out to her guests.
The place was near to Matala too 7 mins! And it's nice to go out from the main part of matala into a tranquil area to go bank to your apartments!
Lovely smiley helpful people! Clean place, gorgeous food for an absolute bargain what more could you ask for!!!
Thanks Eleni, Mirianthi! X

This rental house has its unique peculiar style that well corresponds with the atmosphere of Crete and Matala, in particular. The rental rooms face a small courtyard with a lot of flowers that make you truly feel you're on holidays now! The rental house is located off the main road therefore, no need to worry about the traffic noise.
As you enter the room (our was on the groundfloor), your enthusiasm might wane a little for the room interior somewhat contrasts with the flowery exterior. It appears dark and small, especially at first glance. Indeed, it isn't huge, however, the space available is sufficient for a couple who spends the whole day outside and the room uses just for sleeping at night. Actually, outside the room, in the courtyard, there is a small plastic set (a table and two chairs) available only for you, so you can have your morning (or evening) coffee there and enjoy the tranquility of Matala.
The reception is located elsewhere (some 100 meters ahead the rental house, coming from the main road), in a separate house where the breakfast is serviced, as well. What makes this place particularly attractive is a nice swimming pool just nearby, which is open from 8 am until 9 pm. One of my favourite memories from Crete will be me enjoying the water there in late evening when it was already completely dark, and the pool and the lawns around it were illuminated by lamps...
A small disadvantage of this place is its bad (actually quite absurd) marking. As to go down the road to Matala, you will not spot any signs guiding you to "Dimitris Villa". Actually, there is one, but visible only if you go... in the opposite direction (= as you leave Matala). Thus, you need to watch out carefully to find the villa, however, since Matala is not big, you'll find it sooner or later - no worries. Anyway, be sure not to go too far (to the centre of village) as the villa is located quite at the outskirts of Matala (some 1 km from the beach), on you left hand side as you pull into the town.
