Hospitality in Greek language is treasured as one of the most precious values and inheritance we got from our ancient Greek roots and the Cretan culture. We mean to offer this to our guests while they stay in our hotel.
We liked the Dimitris Villa. It was reasonably priced and included a simple breakfast. Our room was modest but clean and had a good sized fridge and air conditioner. The TV just had BBC world News in English. You do need a car unless you are happy never moving from the beach or pool. The best thing was the pool. Very clean with nice comfortable pool side lounger chairs. We would recommend it. However we had a couple of niggles. As another reviewer said the description of 200m from the beach is unrealistic. It's on the outskirts of the village, a fast 6 minute walk from the centre. This does mean it is a very peaceful location. We didn't mind not having a reception available all day. The shower was fairly ghastly, no shower curtain so the whole of the bathroom became awash and…

A lovely, secluded, clean and friendly hotel. It's so close to the town, but far enough away that you can't hear the bars. It was so peaceful! Elena and her family are wonderful hosts, and Matala itself is beautiful, relaxed and definitely somewhere I want to return to, provided I can get a room at this hotel again :) Thanks Elena for the tasty breakfasts and for always being so friendly and helpful, Claire

We just come back after more than 3 weeks at Matala Dimitris Villa. This was the 4th time we spent our hollyday there. Like the last times the owners organized the taxi for us. The driver picked us up at the airport - and hollyday had started. Our room was spacious with privat balcony (view of the mountains) and privat bath (allways hot water, even in the early morning!). The room had aircon, fridge, TV and a safe. The hotel was cleaned every day. Room was allways clean and good smelling. It is absolutly quiet which is very important to us. You only hear the wind and the birds in the trees. And sometimes the waves. The swimmingpool of the hotel is well maintained and the water really clean (I have a very sensible skin). The pool is surrounded with palmtrees and gras. Near…

Horrid! from the grim stony faced matriarch who cleans and cooks , blankets covered in dubious stains, thread bare stained towels, tatty furniture, handles that fall off ,locking you in the loo, wardrobe doors that dont shut, a grim experience!

We've just returned from a 10 day holiday in Matala, staying at Dimitris Villa. Overall the accomodation is clean and is in good decorative order. There are a few minor maintainance issues (door handle comes away in hand, some light bulbs not working etc). The pool is exceptionally clean and is probably the best feature. The biggest dissapointment is the lack of service and information. Reception is never manned. Keys for new arrivals are left on the desk with a hand written note from Elena often informing guests that they are staying in a different pension (which I understand from speaking with other guests is a much poorer alternative). We arrived late at night tired and thirsty. There was no complimentary water provided so we went to sleep dehydrated. There is only…

I was very concerned when I read previous reviews, but on arriving at Villa Dimitri was pleasantly surprised. OK so the showers don't meet English standards and the rooms are fairly basic but the location and peacefulness there more than makes up for it. The swimming pool is in a lovely tranquil setting overlooking the mountains, and on many occasions there were only a few people there. It's a five minute walk to Matala itself at a pleasant stroll and we found it nice to be a bit out. As for the resort of Matala, I have never stayed anywhere with a nicer or more friendly relaxed attitude. Enough said that I'm now saving for next year. Karen & Andy England

Where should I start…….I know this is a long review but its worth reading even if you just want to have laugh at our expense. This was our first trip to Crete and after looking on the web and at the hotel website, we booked directly with Matala Dimitri Villas (Elena) and got a quick response back saying that: For the Hotel Details I have to tell you, there are 15 A Class Rooms in the same complex with private WC, telephone, Safe Box, Refrigerator, Air-Conditioning, Heating, 2 swimming pools and Balcony or Terrace. We are 250 m from the main Beach of Matala. Next to the main Hotel building there is our Taverna who you can enjoy your Breakfast, Lunch or a Dinner. So we booked an A class double room with a balcony and a view of the pool. Upon arriving at Matala we proceeded to…

It was our first time in Matala and expected to be greeted at the hotel Dimitris Villa. However there was no one there, eventually two children (presumably the owners children) came to manage our bags and take us to our room. The room was awful, there was no window, (i had requested a room with a balcony or atleast a window) it was dark and when we decided to tell the children they told us we'd have to wait until their parents arrived before they could do anything. Unfortunately the owners left us waiting for 2 days until they could be bothered to deal with us and even then, said they would not move us into another room. We therefore said we would like to leave, to which they said we needed to pay the full amount (5 nights). We offered to pay for the amount of time we had…

I grew up with two very special friends, one from Ethiopia and one from America. But now that we are 30, our roads separeted. I am in Italy, Alfredo is in London and Mike is in America. We decided to have a reunion and we chose Dimitris villa in Matala. Alfredo took a flight from London, I took a flight from Rome and Mike took one from Boston. It was the perfect place for such a special time. We had so much fun and all was made even better by Elena, the lady of the hotel, who is so laid back and friendly that we never felt like guests. Alfredo, Mike and I have deceided that every year we will reunite in this paradise place. Inexpensive, beautiful and relaxing!!!! Thank you Elena!!!!!
