We came not expecting anything luxurious, we knew it would be basic, but..... the room was not very clean. Had to clean the shower to use it. Shower curtain should have been replaced years ago. There were small dead bugs inbedded into the blanket on the bed. Everything was very dated. I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
Needed somewhere to stay while going to see The Sheepdogs at The Kee to Bala and this is really the only place in town. First off, yes it is a motel, don’t expect anymore. Rooms are small, bathroom even smaller but it did have clean sheets, towels, and a mini fridge. The other key fact is it is only a 5 minute walk to the Kee, and it is reasonably priced. The host Allison is super friendly and helpful. The reason for the low rating is that it simply is an old and dated motel, not a 3 or 4 star hotel, but it is great for a night in Bala!!
No frills, but everything you need! We stayed in the apartment. It was roomy, clean, and comfortable. Unit was air conditioned. Kitchen was fully stocked with the essential items for a longer stay. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Very short walk into town.
Bala-Hy ... Art speaking Quaint, quirky and absolutely beautiful. Dated, but clean. The most gorgeous 10+ acres right on the water. There is a reason the same families have been renting their waterfront cottages for 25yrs.
We stayed here two nights over 🇨🇦 Thanksgiving weekend this year, while in town for the Blue Rodeo show. It's what you'd expect from a 1960's motel. It is clean and the staff are great, including Herb, the proprietor, and Alison, the front desk person. Both lovely. The rooms are very basic, but did I mention clean? We will stay here again, because it is easy walking distance from The Kee to Bala, an amazing quintessential Canadian dance hall which is now a concert venue. The motel has a garden centre as part of the property, plus three cottages on Long Lake, but we stayed in the two bedroom apartment above the office. The double bed (in one bedroom, the second bedroom has two twins) is firm, and very comfortable. There is a small kitchen in this room, complete with stove/oven and microwave, plus fridge. There is a window-mounted ac, which we did not use given we were there In October. A comfy couch and love seat, plus small tv with satellite reception in the living room. All in all, a decent place provided you're not expecting a 5 star resort. As I say, we will return.…
Stayed here last weekend bc we were going to a concert at the Kee- a few minutes walk. Rooms were small, but clean and adequate w a mini fridge, lots of towels and extra blankets. Owners were very nice. Small patio at end of motel with chairs and a table and umbrella. We’ll be staying here again next year bc we go to the Kee every year to see Sam Roberts. There are also small cottages on the water for rent, but apparently they are already booked for next year.
Return visit after several years. Right on the main road. Friendly reception, parking at motel room, mini fridge, excellent TV reception, window AC as well as two other windows to open, comfortable beds, shower pressure & temp were great. Manicured gardens at the front. Close to shopping & restaurants.
We have stayed here several times, this is my grandsons favorite place, lots of kids, fishing swimming , boating, This time my husband and I were alone and stopped on our motorcycle for a night, I called Allison a couple days ahead explaining that weather permitting we would like a room she held it for us, just on our word, I confirmed the morning of arrival that we would be there around 5 P.M. they are so accommodating. This is a small motel, very dated, not at all fancy, but its clean, quiet and has great atmosphere. Rates are reasonable. Walking distance to the town and on Tuesday nights a free water show on the lake, nightly camp fires by the lake for all guests. We love this place and will return. Thank you for a great nights rest.
I managed to book this last minute. Was a great price and lovely accommodations. It was perfect with lake for swimming in the back of the property. A short walk into town with a full grocery store, farmers stand and liquor store. Also a bakery and ice cream for the children
After a decent stay here once in 2014, we decided to try it again. We called over and over again, there are no means of booking this place online, and always seemed to end up talking to someone who doesn't even work for Bala Hy. We always had our message taken, and were promised that the elusive Allison, who never seemed to be there would be calling us back. Between my wife and I, we called 7 times, and never received the courtesy of a return call. We had intended on booking a lakeside cottage for Victoria Day Weekend, and tried to arrange booking well in advance. Business must be good, because apparently they didn't want or need our money. From what I remember of the first stay, we really aren't missing much anyways. Bala Hy is now crossed off our list of options.
