My wife and I stayed for one night as we had to visit Halesworth for a family emergency. From the outset, the staff didn't seem much interested in our arrival, simply handing us a piece of paper to sign and and select full English or vegetarian breakfast, a broken pen for us to sign with and leaving a key on the table so we could find our own room. The room was quite 'tired'; we had to go back downstairs to ask for the wifi password. The wifi worked briefly for my wife's phone but not at all on my phone or tablet. Breakfast was delivered to our room but it turned out that the vegetarian breakfast was identical to the non-veg, just with meat items removed (my sister was also staying at the hotel so I could compare with her breakfast - although I should add that she wasn't even any drink her breakfast). There was no fruit, cereal, fruit juice let alone yoghurt or cheese. On complaining at our departure I was told that things would have been very different had we been able to eat in the restaurant (sadly closed due to the pandemic). The hotel only has seven rooms - surely not too much effort for someone to ask us what we'd like for breakfast and follow up 15 minutes after the food was delivered to see if we wanted anything else? I can only assume that no one cared. The lack of service was all the more galling for the £95 price tag on the room.

Not usually one to write a review but this definitely needed one. The food is usually lovely here cooked by Henry but the breakfast we had this morning was absolutely terrible, I only ate it as I didn’t want to waste the £10.95!! For 2 breakfasts and a drink each came to almost £28 😳.. the produce was really good quality just really badly cooked! The “One” sausage I got was over cooked, the bacon look like it had been sat out for a long while, it was cold, rock solid (I was honestly struggling to cut it) and just didn’t taste nice at all! The beans were under cooked and cold. Look like they had been microwaved for 10 seconds 🤦🏽‍♀️ The butter was so hard it wouldn’t melt on the toast. Although that was cold too! The only nice thing was the mushrooms. Not once did someone come over to ask if everything was ok, we then sat and waited 15 minutes for the bill as it’s table service only. I got fed up of waiting so ended up standing at the bar. When I did pay, again not asked if everything was ok! Absolutely shocking for a place like this.

Great location, great restaurant, fantastic staff, great value. I stayed 2 nights either side of a running race in Dunwich and The Angel was the perfect choice. The staff could not have been better, they were kind and thoughtful in arranging an early breakfast and everyone I met was friendly. It’s great value and a great base for exploring the local area. Very comfortable bed too.

Our room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The bath size was amazing, I could Bob about having a soak! The supper and breakfast were delicious, a lovely choice on the menu too. The staff couldn’t do enough to help with whatever we asked for. My daughter and I will certainly come back!

Room Tip: We had a twin room at the front, very quiet as it’s a traffic free thoroughfare.

My wife and I stayed at the Angel Hotel for a week having chosen it due to its coinvent location in Suffolk and our love of character buildings. We were not disappointed. Our room was spacious and the whole building had character and history. Free onsite car parking. The small town of Halesworth was a joy with a wide range of small shops and all the locals seeming to know each other and always willing to say hello and talk to visitors. We had a good range of options for breakfast, served by friendly staff. We had 6 evening meals in The Angel's in- house Italian restaurant. The fact that it was full nearly every evening with hotel guests and locals is an indication of the standard of food and the service on offer. The menu plus the specials board always gave us ample choice. On one evening we had a meal at a local restaurant which was only a 5 minute walk away. This also provided us with an enjoyable evening. All of the staff from the owner and his family, the front of House Manager to the chambermaid, they all made us feel so welcome. After our week we moved on to another hotel about 60 miles away which was an AA 4 Star establishment. We stayed for a week but after our first night we were so disappointed that if the Angel had had any vacancies, we would have immediately returned!!
