This place is just the absolute best. The room was clean and cute, not to mention had the best balcony and view of the ocean I have ever seen. Emiliano was so welcoming, warm and gracious, he made us feel right at home. I cannot wait to come back and stay here. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were also great and very clean.

This place is beautiful, with a view of the sea, a great place to lounge around in hammocks, and beautiful folliage and pathways. There is even access to WiFi. But even more than all this, the owner is warm, welcoming, intelligent, and funny! We had no reservations, and there was no room available when we arrived, but the owner went out of his way to put us in tents that he set up, one per person, for the first night until a room was available. I went with my adult son and some fellow travelers, and we were all very happy with the place.

If you want to leave it all behind, this is the place. No frills, just an amazing ocean view, relaxed people, stunning nature and the legendary Emiliano, who knows this area like the back of his hands, is an amazing cook and will tell you fascinating stories.
For real lovers of Mexico.

Cheap price but this place doest worth for a penny either. Dirty, no water, terrible restrooms, too many bugs, terrible management etc..
Far from center and top of the hill. Hard to walk up. I do not recommend anyone with any age.

First, not reserving a room when I talked with the owner day ahead. (had to wait one two hours when arrived) Secondly moving me to a worse room the day after. (for that I don't complain they gave me a discount in advance)
Third day waking up with people (the owner and workers) talking right on my window, where they could actually watch me sleep. And then starting to renovate the hut right next to me.
And for a good finish he kicked me out in one hour notice, saying he has other reservations, even though I'm right there and asked for another night because I'm not feeling well and can't move!
He was very very unpleasant. And I'm not a very picky person at all!
Very weird vibes at the place. Not good energy and pretty noisy.
Oh. And the kitchen is disgusting

My boyfriend and I booked directly with the owner (Emiliano) a week from March 18-25, 2014. The price he offered was $2,500 pesos per week and we deposited $500 pesos five months in advance. When we got there (after having reconfirmed the dates two weeks before) he told us that our room wasn't available and he lied by telling us that he had us booked for the night before but we didn't arrive, which wasn't true. He offered us a cabin closer to the beach for that night for the same price.
The following day, we went back to ask if our room was available and it wasn't because "the guests wanted to stay another day". After demanding explanations he admitted that they were his girlfriend's family and that he couldn't say no even though we already had a booking. He offered the nights in the other cabin for free and promised that the next day we would be able to move. Something that made us uncomfortable was that his room had a strong marihuana stench - it is very common in Mazunte but we don't like that and made us feel uneasy.
The next day we were able to move and everything seemed alright. However, that night, at around 1am, a strange man (drunk or drugged or both) came into our room and woke us up. First he went closer to our bed and then he went to the balcony. Fortunately we realized it on time and he left after telling us that Emiliano had asked him to give massage. We got scared and weren't able to sleep well that night. He didn't steal anything but the morning after we reported it to Emiliano and he only asked us if we were ok, if anything had been stolen and how did the man look like. He said he didn't know him but apart from that he didn't show much interest.
The rest of the stay was uncomfortable and a few days later a worker wanted to charge us much more money than we had agreed to pay. This lead to a discussion in which Emiliano and the worker wanted to charge us more and they were complaining about the "discount" we were asking for the nights they didn't respect our booking. The worker was very hostile since then and made us very nervous. We had agreed to pay $2,500 pesos for the week and they wanted to charge us more than $3,000 in total. In the end they agreed to respect the price and not charge us the first two nights since we had all evidence that Emiliano had offered us that price (confirmation emails and deposit slip) but by then we were extremely uncomfortable there.
On the last day Emiliano did help us get a taxi to take us to the airport but we left utterly disappointed by their lack of professionalism, negative attitude and irresponsibility, which ruined the experience.
We definitely NOT recommend this place. There are amny more options in Mazunte that are likely to offer better service. These cabins are located in a pretty area but it is worth looking for better alternatives because there definitely are many.

Our stunning house on the hill, is a home for travellers from all around. Wake up to panoramic views of the ocean and you may catch a whale jump to the sky. Spend a magic night around the fire of the temaxcal and walk in the moonlight with the spirt of the Punta Cometa. BALAMJUYUC is our home in paradise and our spirt is like a cosmic family, more than a hostel we are part of the lanscape of mazunte. Our intention is for a relaxed and welcoming atmosephere, open your heart to the motherearth

We booked a deluxe room, for $55 US per night. Dirty bedsheets, awful mattress, noisy room (the dorms are upstairs), a cheap hostel room overall. The owner has his own wifi, and the one given to the customers does not work.
Go somewhere else, for the same price there is great accommodation in this town.

We stayed here in November for 3 nights. Mixed opinions of the place, but overall poor.
Positives
The view is amazing!!! Not a lot can beat that!
Owner was friendly and kind at times.
Negatives
The rooms (double ensuite) was smelly and stuffy.
We were actually a bit scared of the owner, sometimes he would be nice and other times he seemed mad and we didn't want to approach him.
Kitchen isn't kept very clean.
The toilet broke in our room and we were too scared to tell the owner in case he went mad at us!
Booked a taxi, but a 'friend' came instead and charged us a lot!
I can understand why this place gets some amazing reviews, it has the potential to be great...not somewhere we would go again though.

If all you need is a mosquito net and a fan, this is the place to be! Balamjuyuc is at the top of the hill overlooking the beach and from some of the rooms you can literally see the ocean from your bed (I watched the sun rise every day). It's nice being slightly removed from the beach so that you don't have to deal with partiers (& noise) unless you want to (but it really is just a 10 minute steep climb down to the beach). In addition to the dreamy location, Emiliano almost approaches the hostel like it were a family. On 2 nights he made whoever was interested dinner for a reasonable price (one night red snapper with achiote, the other night home-made pasta!) and hung out drinking and chatting with us. He also taught yoga to whoever was interested on several of the days we were there. There are communal hammocks, a kitchen, and kitchen table, so all the visitors tend to do a certain amount of hanging out and mingling which was also really nice. Overall this place is a real gem and I'd highly recommend it if you want a simple and welcoming place to enjoy this magical beach.
