Detailed Reviews

The best things about our room were the view of the sea and the proximity to the gorgeous beach where we spent all week lying around soaking up sun and beauty. We chose this place because of the reviews, but there are a number of important points never mentioned in any review. One is that the showers are cold water only, and this is true of (as far as we could tell) all the places right on or quite close to the beach. We were told, "it's always hot, you don't need a hot shower." I don't know about everyone else, but I take a hot shower daily no matter what the weather! I put up with cold water because there was no other choice of a place this nice and this close to the beach. Another point is that the toilets are compost toilets, but that's a wonderful idea and no problem at all, and the instructions for its use are detailed, clear, and easy to follow. No smell, no inconvenience. The last thing, and I think everyone would like to know this in advance, is that reaching the rooms requires walking up many steep stairs (42 of them total, in several sets) and a steep ramp. I have trouble with stairs, and I don't know if I would have chose La Sabile had I known about this beforehand. As it was, since all we did was go to the beach every day (yes, quite lazy, this was our vacation at the end of 6 weeks of travel in Mexico) and eat twice a day, I went up and down only twice a day, going up once at the end of beach time (toward sunset), and once after dinner. For lunch we simply wandered up the street and like everyone else ate covered with sand :) I will add that our room had the best view of the sea, and that the simplicity of the room and its design were fine with us. There was a small fridge, we were lent a kettle to make tea in the morning, there was a table and chair, room to hang clothes, a fan, a nice bed, mosquito net. The porch also has a table and chairs for every room. The only thing I might have added, though I realise and appreciate the effort to save water, is a hose or faucet outside to wash the sand off our feet before entering the room. And La Sabile is really a minute-and-a-half walk to the beach, once you get down the stairs!

Posada located in a very beautiful hilly position five minutes from the main street of Mazunte. To reach it there are about 50 steps, if you arrive with luggage in the middle of the day as it is very hot and it is better to ask for help. If you arrive by car it is more convenient to access from above at least to unload your luggage. We had the Palma room, very beautiful, open to the outside with a view of the vegetation and a limited view towards the sea. Equipped with a safe. Entirely made of wood, thatched roof and with mosquito net on the bed. Very hot during the day and cooled by a fan, but you sleep well at night. External bathroom with shower heated only by the sun, therefore just lukewarm. Free wifi in the room.
We didn't like the bad smell from the compostable toilet. Despite all the precautions used according to the rules in the room, the bad smell could be felt. We had already used it previously and therefore we knew how it worked and when choosing the room we were aware, but always in cold locations and never with these high temperatures.

Terrible choice! 93 stair steps to get there! Room smelled like sewage and it was so hot, I was unable to sleep. Forced to leave screen flaps held together open rather than sliding door because of the heat, but zero security. Unacceptable. Construction noise started at 6am. Total fail.
