This was a peaceful and relaxing stay. The views from the Circle room were simply breathtaking! If you love nature and you want to disconnect from the business of your life this is definitely the place to stay. Not the easiest to find when we first arrived but once we were there it was like Paradise! Make sure to bring comfortable sneakers to hike up the stairs every time you go out! If you go to the gym you definitely wont need to! The cardio is amazing lol. The rooms are spread out so you dont see too many people also the theres only 6 rooms so it doesnā€™t feel congested. You are surrounded by nature all around. The views of the ocean and the sounds rock to sleep. And the the sunsets Wow!! Speechless. The room we stayed in was simple the bed comfy and round. The separate shower was great connecting with nature at peace! I was here with friends that stayed in another room they also loved their accommodations. The pool was a great way to relax and cool down. Especially after a day of exploring the beaches in the area. Also the views and sunset from the pool were amazing. The host Magdalena was so helpful and informative and available for any issues, questions or help you may need. She is also the cook there if you order food its fresh and made to order! So delicious! I stayed at the Villa a whole not needing to go into town and was very happily satisfied and content just staying there! The staff was amazing.

My husband and I stayed in the Circle House at Casa Mermejita for four days as part of a 10 day trip to Oaxaca on our honeymoon. This is one of three houses that share a kitchen on Playa Mermejita, very near Mazunte, Oaxaca.

First, the good: the setting is incredible. The view of the ocean from the house is breathtaking and the beach is quite remote and private. We saw many beautiful birds from our patio, and the star-watching was just amazing! The houses are quite nice. Like any tropical setting, there are some ants and an occasional gecko, but the beds have mosquito netting, and we were able to sleep with our doors open without any problems. The staff cleans each house every day, and keeps the place nicely swept and tidy. All in all, you couldn't ask for a better tropical hideaway!

Except..... we made the mistake of renting just one of the houses. The other two were occupied by another party, and though they were nice folks, it was definitely not the private getaway that we hoped for. The kitchen is shared between all of the houses, and our entire patio was quite visible from the dining table. At times it felt like we were living with room mates! I would definitely recommend Casa Mermejita for a large group that wants to rent all three houses, but not for just one of the houses if you are looking for privacy. At the very least, I would recommend renting the square house or rectangle house, both of which have less of a view, but are a bit more private.

The other thing worth mentioning is that there is quite a climb up at least 40 stairs in order to get to the houses and kitchen from the parking. It's not too much if you're in reasonable shape, but it is definitely not handicap accessible.

Despite the lack of privacy we had a great time. Mazunte is a great little beach town, and Casa Mermejita is in an incredible setting with an amazing view. It's a close walk to the beach and to Punta Cometa.

Six cabanas on a hill overlooking the ocean. No onsite management, just a surly caretaker. We had booked 2 nights on Expedia. We liked Mazunte and wanted to stay one more night. Our cabana was available online but we could not book it because of a 2-night minimum. So we asked the caretaker. He checked, and told us okay.

We returned from the beach after sunset in wet swimsuits, looking forward to a shower, to relax, and then go to dinner. Instead, we found that the caretaker had crammed all our things into our suitcases and removed them from the room, and he was barring the door! He said it was rented to someone else. I suspect he failed to note it as occupied, and someone else booked it online.

We had a very difficult time finding another room because the town was completely full. My companion searched online while I tramped the neighborhood. I finally found something by sheer persistence - I returned to a place that had already turned me down and they dug up a little room they donā€™t usually rent. And you can bet the surly caretaker did not help carry our suitcases down the 135 steps to the street.

AVOID this hotel!

We stayed here the weekend of April 1st, a group of 12 friends. My friend booked the whole hotel for us.
We were prepared to overlook the very lazy service or the fact that the pool wasn't clean, but the personnel final attitude changed that.
We had organised a mini-bus to pick us up to take us to the airport, but the driver couldn't access the hotel as he was blocked by the local taxi drivers. When our driver came to the hotel and asked the manager (Eliseo) for help, he refused (after we had tipped him really well) to do it. We found out he had warned the taxi drivers we were using someone from out of town (BTW they don't have transport for such a big goup in Mazunte) and given him the exact time of the bus arrival. We were stranded there for 1 hour, the police was supporting the taxi drivers who demanded we paid them a bribe to let us go. A very stressful and scary situation as these men were violent as well. Luckily someone call the town's mayor who came and made the taxi drivers go away.
I don't recommend staying at this place.

The hotel is located against a steep mountain, looking at the sea.
Spacious, clean and modern ā€œecologicalā€ rooms....(you know what that means, right? No AC!)
But the architect thought about the heat!! So he constructed those rooms with two ā€œwallsā€ with wooden blinds.... very nice looking, but without any moskito net...., so any crawling or flying insect can join in!
And thereā€™s no wind blowing!! So forget about natural cooling. So, someone thought about it, and put 2 fans in the room... it is so spacious, that theyā€™re not enough.... and to top it all, to avoid being bitten by moslkitos or something worse... the beds are covered with a white gauze ( so you enter into your cocoon..... but that gauzze is so heavy, that does not allow any air into your bed space!
One night I preferred to sleep in the outside hammok!
The restaurant is floors upstairs...or downstairs! It depends where your room is..... with a magnificent cook, and view!
But frankly, the amount of stairs that you have to climb up and down, just to est or swim at the pool... is to much!

Dear customer, we greatly appreciate your comments that are enriching. And we take your opinion into account because of this, the room currently has the relevant modifications that you have an echo to see, we have covered the entire room with a mosquito net to avoid insects and we have removed the blanket or canopy that covered the bed so that the air flow more and the room is cooler. The windows can be opened without losing privacy for sure if you come back you will be very comfortable in this modified room that is one of the most beautiful in the hotel

This hotel has a really issue problem with service first of all the can't sell u ice because they don't have ice. How the hell a hotel on the ocean with 40
Degrees Celsius doesn't have ice
Second place one of our rooms the mosquito net has a huge hole where all the Mosquitos get inside let u never sleep
Third is unbelievable a hotel far from the downtown Mazunte on a raining night can't extend dinner time to serve food the people
Who is there and doesn't have a car to go to town on a poring raining night and when we ask for food they said we r not allow to serve food at this time when the manager is doing nothing just sleeping on a hamack
On top of that the price is the most expensive hotel in the whole area and to be honest doesn't worth it
TO BE HONEST THE WORST HOTEL ON THE AREA any further questions contact me specially if the owner read this review that I hope vincourt77@hotmail.com

I tell him that we have the necessary services and that at that time of night we found ice for beers that were taking, and that were not purchased at the hotel. We will write to your e-mail he sent us to see how to amend the failure to consider effectively committed.

Not a single place on this planet, let alone Mexico, would dare to treat paying customers the way these guys do. Total desmadre, chaos, complete ignoring of common sense or any business deal they make with you. Their only focus is making money, and they won't stop at ripping you off while providing ZERO care for you, and complicating your life with non-stop inconvenience.
The place itself is lovely, but definitely not worth its price, and the owners are greedy, disrespectful people. Do not get involved with this place.

As said in other comments... the place is amazing, but maybe a bit overpriced considering the service.
We arrived quite late (6pm) hoping to be able to enjoy a cocktail and the sunset. After we climbed the 150 stairs with no way to communicate with the staff to get some help, we actually enjoyed the amazing view ... from the lobby, for more than an hour. Staff was not warned that we had booked a room, so the room was not ready, and they really struggled to find our reservation... We were asked several times for proof of payment, which is not the kind of greeting you expect when booking a premium place.
I must highlight that the staff was really nice and willing to help, the problems seem to steam from management issues.

The architecture really is impressive, and the view compares to nothing else in mazunte. The room did not have all the mentioned features but staff brought it when we asked for it (music, etc). The view from cuarto triangulo is ashtonishing, you'll never want to leave the place.

The pool was not really clean either, but ok to swim. For the price you'd expect a little more of attention on these details.

Contrary to other comments below, i must say the personal in charge was very decidated, he cooked us breakfast, brought us hot water for the night since it was a bit chilling outside, came to the room with drinks and guacamole..

Last but not least, the good surprise of being able to pay with a credit card was swiped out by a late e mail, one week after having left... i'm being asked to deposit the amount again.. considering I have paid and left a consequent tip, where is my money gone?

Let's say, this a closer to an airbnb with extra attention than to a hotel or a BnB, since you'll lack service and details.

The rooms, the setting, the design, the view, the food (very expensive for Mazunte BTW) the architecture, and the location were all perfect! BUT such a poor if non-existent service by non-professionals and not particularly welcoming people. It's like we were bothering them every time we asked for something. They forgot to prepare our lunch, and told us we would be able to pay by credit card and we realized at the very last minute that they were not set up for credit card payment, and that we had to pay cash! Until I said that it was Paypal or nothing, and miracle, they had Paypal! And, they imposed their taxi service on us, of course more expensive than the one we had found.
Again, this place is amazing, but expect nothing else!
