Posada las Mazutinas is the best place to stay in Mazunte. We stayed in Palapa mar in late January early February. The accommodations were great with all of the standard features. I especially liked relaxing in the hammock on the open air veranda looking out over the hillside or just sitting and ready to the sounds of the surf and birds in the back ground. Mazutinas is close by (5 minute walk to the beach and 15 minute walk to Punte cometa to watch the sun rise) to everything you need. iI is set in a quiet street just off the only road through town so everything is within walking distance. No need to go anywhere else for an enjoyable stay. Dave and Tiki are so helpful, suggesting the best restaurants to visit, how to access the beach suggesting things to do and places to go or where not to go. They know all of the local eateries in mazunte and nearby towns and they know the owners and chefs personally. They arranged for my wife and I to have an in cabanya massage to boot. Dave and Tiki take all of the stress out of a visit. You don't have to figure anything out on your own or take a gamble, just relax and enjoy.

I heartily recommend Mazuntinas - a chilled place in a chilled Oaxaca coastal village.
Mazuntinas is well maintained, its clean, orderly & perfectly safe. The owners are very accommodating & hospitable, partic to repeat long-term guests. A variety of housing is available - a deluxe unit w/ ocean view, an apartment for a small family/ two couples, a bedroom unit w/ simple bath, as well as a 2nd one bedroom w/ a simple bath.
Mazunte is a superb location, it has good beaches, a good selection of restaurants & no druggie scene. (Zipolite may have the best selection of restaurants, but its beach is dangerous/ dirty & it attracts a seedy drugie culture)
Just walking around Mazunte one senses a healthy community at work & play. ATMs are becoming available in Zipo & Mazunte - so no more runs to Potchutla for $NP.
I can't say enough good about Mazuntinas & Mazunte.

I stayed at Posada Mazuntinas for a week in mid-January. We had the Sky Casita which is up a few flights of stairs, but David, the host, transported our luggage (a very nice surprise!). The Sky Casita is one indoor room and one open-air room with a kitchen - the open air and location made it feel a bit like a treehouse. The frig was huge and the kitchen very well equipped with drinking water included (refills only US$1). I was worried about not having air-conditioning, but the powerful ceiling fans made it very comfortable to sleep. David, the host, gives a wonderful orientation to Mazunte, all the best restaurants (and there are plenty of good ones to choose from), warnings about which beaches are swimmable and which are not, as well as the best options for things to do while in town. Don't miss the sunrise from the rooftop - it rises over the ocean, you're situated above the tree-line and it is really worth it. The casita was very clean and the staff is very friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this place. If you don't want to do the stairs, there are other options on the property.

We spent the month of January 2016 in the Mazunte area. We stayed at the Posada las Mazuntinas in the beginning of January and then again at the end of January because we liked it so much. We stayed first in the cabana at the top of the hill. It has a full kitchen, living area open air. The bedroom and bathroom is enclosed. There is mosquito netting surrounding the bed and fans to keep you cool. We were very pleased and enjoyed our stay so much that we rented again at the Posada. David and Tiki are excellent hosts and went out of their way to give us useful information about the area, including the restaurants and sights to see. The posada is only a 5 minute walk to the Rinconcita beach and a short walk to the restaurants. Although we did cook in our in the cabana, there are lots of places to eat in town. We enjoyed eating out at the "cinnerante". (dinner and a movie at different restaurants in town). There is internet available in the cabanas, though the town's internet service is slow at certain times during the day. We had no problem connecting. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

I spent four months in the cabana pictured here. It was wonderful. David and Tiki are warm friendly hosts and always there when you need them. If you go missing, as I did when I took off for a few days exploring without telling them, they get concerned and that is very comforting to someone traveling alone. I had everything I needed to be self sufficient for my stay and when something wasn't just right, David was on it asap. I found the village of Mazunte to be the quiet, laid back place you hear about. It does come to life a bit over the News Years and Easter celebrations. The beaches are spotless but at times a bit scary for this poor swimmer. Walk to the next village of San Agustinillo where you will find, most days, a sheltered bay for great swimming. Although I did most of my own cooking, there are lots of places to eat in town and even more during any holiday times. Never tired of the many trails and roads with great views. I would highly recommend a stay in any of their cabanas whether for a night or two or the entire winter.

I was a pleasure having Hugh stay with us for 4 months. He is quite an independent and interesting traveler - our conversations covered many topics and were quite enjoyable. We recommend Hugh to any Airbnb host. He looked after the Cabana like it was his own. Hugh, thank you for the review. We are glad that you thought enough of your stay to write it. Happy continued travels! David & Tiki

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at Los Mazuntinas for a week and it was incredible. David gave us a welcoming and thorough introduction upon our arrival and left us with an intuitive map of the town and plenty of restaurant suggestions. Our bungalow was the perfect size for us! We had a mosquito net for around our bed, a 5 gal tank of potable water, a mini fridge, fresh towels everyday and even a bucket of water outside our door to rinse our sandy feet off after a day at the beach. The hammock was perfect to read in even on rainy mornings. Mazunte is truly a hidden gem and we are so grateful that we had the opportunity to experience its nature, its people and its culture. We would (and will!) recommend Los Mazuntinas to any and all who are traveling to Mazunte and the surrounding towns.

We are actually in Las Mazuntinas in Palapa Mar...well the setting is great and the welcoming made by David was full of informations about restaurants and tours. We went very often around ( it"s our 4 times but first in Mazunte) and we think that this is a great choice in Mazunte. Of course you have to climb some stairs but it worth it. The place is seclude and relaxing, you have to deal with the sound of the waves, roasters and dogs ( but roasters and dogs sleeps sometimes...) Globally we recommand this place to everyone who want to spend great time in Mazunte!

Our "Palapa Mar" casita has been upgraded/renovated to make better use of the treetop views so we have changed its name to "Sky." Thanks for the recommendation. David & Tiki

We had the best stay ever in Mazunte! The cabana is big, clean and beautiful and our hosts couldn't have been any nicer. Mazunte is a very relaxing place and recommended to those who really want a vacation. David and Tiki are real cool people with great knowledge about good places to eat and things to do around Mazunte, we even had Christmas dinner together, thanks again for that! There are some great restaurants around and its a very friendly little village in general.

My girlfriend & I had only 2 nights here & we were gutted to leave - easily the most tranquil beach cabana we've stayed in for a long time. David & Tiki go above & beyond as they're very friendly & helpful & run their rooms in a very Eco friendly way. One of the highlights of our trip to Mexico so far was chilling out on the veranda chatting with David - thanks for making our short stay a sweet one.
