Detailed Reviews
Quiet hotel that was very clean. It had a great pool and deck with a wonderful view of Mermejita beach. Staff were very helpful. There is an associated restaurant that served food and alcohol until four but let one get bottled/canned drinks from the fridge on the honor system later. It had an espresso maker. There is a horrible nearby (across a valley) restaurant that blared dance music on the two weekend nights I was there, but that plagues everyone who is facing in the little valley of Mermejita.

What a lovely treat to stay at such a beautiful property with an infinity pool and lots of views.
The food at the property is over the top. We didn’t plan on eating at the restaurant but after a stunning lunch, we ended up having dinners 5 of 6 nights.
Go for the views, stay for the food

We went to OceanoMar only for restaurant cause we stayed somewhere else on Playa Mermejita. What a beautiful and peaceful place to eat and chill. The food is simple and really tasty. All the restaurant team is amazing, kind, smiley and sweet. We went there 5 times cause the place is so quiet and the view heartbreathing. We've seen whales while we were there and had really good chat with all the the team. Thanks for offering us to enjoying the p.m at the swimming pool. We are so grateful to met you. Next time we book a caban to your place.

We made a reservation to stay at OceanoMar for 3 nights with the understanding that the hotel had air conditioning, as indicated on Trip Advisor. When we arrived, we discovered that the rooms do not, in fact, have air conditioning. Whether this miscommunication was the fault of Trip Advisor or of the hotel, I cannot say. However, I am glad that we had not put down a deposit, and I wish that Trip Advisor had accurate information about the facilities at OceanoMar. I was really looking forward to staying there and disappointed that Trip Advisor painted a completely false picture of this beautiful hotel.

I wish I could write 2 reviews: One for the physical place, and one for the staff. The place was really lovely. We stayed there for 5 days. You should know though that it is on a hill, which is great for catching ocean breezes, but hard to climb in the heat. There is no air conditioning, and it does get very hot. The rooms were very clean, the breakfasts good, and the pool inviting. Anyway, we throughly enjoyed the physical place, but our experience with the staff was odd. Maybe they were burnt out on visitors at the end of the season. Maybe they were overworked and underpaid. Except for the maid, and a lady- I think her name was Rebecca?- no one else would make eye contact or return our greetings. I've honestly never felt more unwelcome any place I've ever stayed. I think the answer may be for the owner to make sure the staff is paid enough so they're happy to work there- even if it is the end of the tourist season. This is the first negative review I've written.

Loved everything about this place, we had a private room with an amazing view, use of the stunning pool with friendly and helpful staff. You can hear the ocean and wildlife from your room and it's a short walk from picturesque beaches. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend! Thanks to Dorian, Martino and the staff for their hospitality!

We completely lucked out at OceanoMar!! Booked on line and was very pleasantly surprised to discover this beautiful piece of paradise. Lovely well maintained property, off the beaten path with wonderful ocean views & a refreshing infinity pool. Can't commend the staff enough-they were all wonderful. Leisurely breakfasts with multiple cafe's to start another day of peace & relaxation. Rooms were clean & spacious with great hot showers to get the sand off! Best sunsets if you walk to the point just 30 minutes away! Having been in the hospitality industry my whole career I would highly recommend visiting this little oasis. It's a small villa and would be perfect for any kind of retreat or group of family/friends. I will definitely return!

Great attention to detail, fabulous staff, good food, unbelievable views and secluded location made this a perfect place to celebrate our honeymoon. Staff even decorated the bed with flower petals on our first night!
For us, Oceanomar hit a great balance between rustic ecolodge (Thatch roof bungalows with all natural building materials, surrounded by native jungle landscaping) and luxury boutique hotel (Full service cafe restaurant bar, intimate pool overlooking the ocean, beautifully designed spacious rooms). Literally minutes from a beautiful and secluded beach perfect for watching a sunset.
Considerations. May not be perfect for those with mobility concerns as its hillside location requires walking up and down steps and hills to get to and from the beach or town. The natural building style uses open air flow fans and windows for cooling. We did not have piping hot water in our shower. These creature comforts were not missed though because the experience created by the staff and natural surroundings was so immersive.
Thanks once again to the OceanoMar crew for a wonderful honeymoon!

This place is great! The area is rustic but this is a nice, oasis in the jungle. My husband and I spent three days here in mid-June and loved it. It's secluded and quiet. You feel like you are in the middle of the jungle and you are close enough to the beach to hear the waves crash. There is a nice restaurant and good wifi in the place as well as a small pool and activities like yoga and massage. It's a short-ish walk to the center of the town but far enough to feel like an escape. We will be returning to Oceanomar. A note, it is in the middle of a rustic area so there will be a few bugs and lizards, crabs, frogs, that you will come across on the property. The rooms have mosquito nets over the beds but they are very nicely furnished and comfortable, not rustic. It's hot during the day but the rooms have fans and by the evening it was cool enough to sleep comfortably.

My wife and I stayed here last week for 5 nights and were totally impressed in every way!! We were in the "secluded" suite, which is ideally located to access the restaurant and the pool - both of which are pristine. We had negligible problems with mosquitoes, or any of the other locals to the jungle.
Maybe due to the Jan 8-13 period we stayed, but there were few other guests, so it was as if we had the resort to ourselves. The vacation was for relaxation, so that was perfect. Most guests that stay there are from within Mexico, usually Mexico City, so you will not run into your US or Canadian neighbours for sure....just the way we like it.
The nearest beach is 4 mins walk and it is virtually deserted. There are a couple of restaurants there - especially recommended is El Copal. Fantastic views, esp at sunset and the food was superb. Ask Oceanomar management to direct you to the location of the steps that take you up to El Copal.
Martino, one of the owners of Oceanomar, will do anything and everything to make your stay memorable. He is always readily available and along with Dorian, who works in the restaurant/bar, they make a great team.
The other beach is better if you want to swim - El Rinconcito is about 10-15 mins walk, but you will be able to swim and have a choice of 10+ decent restaurants. This is where the action is. We recommend Alejandros Italian - especially at night. There was a line-up as we were leaving, so go early!!
Mazunte itself is only 10 mins from Oceanomar & is a nice little town. No begging or people trying to sell you stuff - normal for the usual Mexico tourist destinations. The venders are catering to their locals, but are willing to assist you and are very helpful.
We both had massages offered by a local masseur and she was very good & reasonably priced (600 pesos for 90+ mins)
If we return to the South Coast, we will definitely come back to Oceanomar.

I think it would be Puerto Escondido. You could then take a taxi or bus to Manzunte.
