Detailed Reviews

Fabulous ambience with the rapids right outside your door and great location with Algonquin Park minutes down the street. Great value with free access to bicycles, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Free access to gas BBQs and fire pit facing the stunning river vista. Rooms are nicely renovated with comfy beds, microwave, A/C and fridge. Shower supplied hot water with good force. There were 3 misses 1) the window did not open even a crack to allow the wonderfully relaxing natural sleep audio right outside the door not to mention allowing the beautiful northern fresh air 2) there was no mat or rug at the front door for us to place our shoes and the floor got mucked up very quickly 3) wifi went in/out (important for my kids not me)

We loved the location, it stated recently renovated so we assumed beds would be new. The mattress was so loud and uncomfortable. My back was sore from hiking all day in Algonquin Park and I couldn’t get comfortable at all.
The location is amazing, the rapids are beautiful, the room was clean BUT not COVID19 clean. Previous guest had left things behind and the bathroom door was dirty so you know it wasn’t cleaned properly between guests.
Only $99 a night so you get what you pay for

Nice location but rooms small, bathroom small and tired. Shower stall looking old!
Parking lot needs work with gravel and VERY large step into room. Restaurant across road but closes early, mad masher short hours and busy. Rooms can hear everything from next door.
Not sure what tv service did not recognize common channels , gave up. Wifi good.
Not again.

We booked in March 2022, checked in on June 25th 2022. The rooms floor was not cleaned, cobs webs in the corners, under the desk, behind the toilet all with active spiders. The sink had a dirty used bar of soap behind the facet. Outside of the building, in front of your door had a lot of debris to walk through, the window sills were full of dead flies. Baseboards & trim were filthy. We looked at two other rooms [ that we could have moved to] they were dirtier than the original room. The owner came to our room and saw no issue with what we pointed out to him. He said that we lucky " we were only paying $179.00 per night, because he could charge more.

Back to motel because close to east gate of Algonquin makes it easy for early start. I stayed in refurbished room on river side , more money but larger, modern and great bathroom. If you want to have a little more luxury go for it... Wifi good, 2 beds but not firm enough for me,

I have to say a few things. We play our tv all night for light & if we wake up during the night to watch. The persons next to us pounded on our door at 11 PM yelling at us to turn the tv down which we did. He complain to the owner that we were loud. This neighboring guy actually started a confrontation with me in the morning & would not stop. We did nothing wrong and did not asked to be confronted in the morning as we did what the guy asked. Or so we thought.
Later that day, we get back to the room for a break & a lady drops a sign to the room for us & I just kind of ignored it as I was laying down. She stated to me she would leave it on the floor & every room was getting one. She never said what it was so I figured I would l wait & take care of it later.
My spouse came in the room & asked why that lady wanted. I told him what she said & he stated he watched her & we were the only room she left the sign & picked it up to read it. Be Quiet. I immediately called the office & asked why did we get the sign & no one else. She said that someone in the Dream Catcher motel was partying and really noisy the night before & that everyone was getting a sign. FIRST LIE.
I stated that I had l something to report regarding the person knocking on our door at 11PM she did listen again stated that there was never a complaint about us & if I wanted to make a complaint I was to call at 5:30 when the owner was available.
I was going to wait but, I didn't have to wait. I assume the owner, knocked on our door & stated there was a complaint about us being so noisy last night or maybe he said the last two nights, SECOND LIE. He stated again that everyone got one of those signs and he could change the rules as he wanted to. I spoke up & stated it was about the tv being to loud & I turned it down and had to lay on the end of the bed to hear it. He agreed it was not loud. We talked & he stated the guys grievances & stated he caught the guy in several lies, everything was nice nice.
We stated why we leave the tv on when no light was available at night. He was shocked we had the tv on all night which really did not affect him at all. After all we had paid & needed a night light to be able to see. My spouse is having balance issues & need light at night so as not to fall. (Maybe he should fall and hurt himself) There are no night lights just bright lights & we didn't want to leave them on all night. My spouse spoke up regarding some items about the dark room & at that point we were told to turn the volume down at night. Spouse questioned if the volume is fine why should we have to if volume is alright? Then I questioned the rule to turn the volume off. That's when the owner turned on us.
We questioned him about the volume turned off, which is a legitimate question & he stated as the owner he could tell us to turn the volume off & derogatory statements regarding American & American Police force and that's why we were being confrontational (spouse is retired officer). American Police force are nothing but confrontational. Well I don't blame my spouse for being offended. I was offended.
We knew exactly was the owner was implying. Talk about being racial. We got hit in the face with RACIAL innuendo. What does American Police have to do with asking why we, as paying customer should have to turn the volume off when at a level that does not disturb anyone. A lot of nasty things were said by the owner & we asked if we were getting kicked out & at first he said he wanted to but no. We asked again why would it be necessary to have to turn the volume off at 10PM & instead of answering us stated we were being confrontational & after a few more words & a few more minutes he said yes GET OUT & NEVER COME BACK! So at 5:30 PM we packed up & headed back to home which no one cares was 6 hours away. I have to say it makes me sick to hear American Racial Slurs out of our neighboring country. It really makes Canada look really bad that is this really how everyone feels about Americans. Should this really have even been something that should have been spoke out loud no matter how you feel, You took our money and kicked us out over the tv volume and nothing more all because we said we shouldn't have to turn the volume off. Well I got to say you give CANADA a bad rap!
Yes this is only my side but If I wrote everything it would take me forever because alot was said and yes we responded that we would be letting everyone we know to not stay there. This is my way of letting everyone know.

Response from ANDREW MICHEL, General Manager at Rolling Rapids Motel
Responded Oct 2, 2022
This customer was verbally and physically aggressive towards staff and other customers. They had their TV volume at a level that was disturbing other guests and they left it on all night long as a “night light”. They were upset that quiet time is 10pm to 7am. We had several complaints about these customers about noise as well as their aggressive behavior. One guest even left two days early because of their interactions with them. When we learned of the growing situation after that guest left, we approached them to discuss the situation and look for solutions, they were argumentative and confrontational to say the least. We attempted to deescalate the situation is several ways but it became clear they were looking for an argument. They were not interested in getting along. They threatened to call the OPP on us because they were not getting their own way. They attempted to extort money from us by threatening to slander us to all their photography friends if we did not cooperate, which they are now following through on. As a result of their aggressive behavior, they were asked to leave. We love Americans and have allot of them stay with us each year. We had several other guests from America staying at the same time who had an awesome experience which is typical. We look forward to continuing to see all of our American friends in the future. All the best from Algonquin Park, Ont.
