I was wary when I read my itinerary that my friends and I will be over nighting at a youth hostel. Understanding the circumstances that, all other hotel/motel facilities were completely and fully booked, staying at youth hostel was the only choice. Very pleasantly surprised...More
During our time in New Zealand, we stayed in a variety of baches and hostels. The YHA at Mt Cook was definitely a highlight of our trip! Obviously, the location was incredible, the views breathtaking, and the staff knowledgeable and friendly, but the rooms were...More
Fabulous YHA very clean, excellent facilities, bed very comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. Hostel has good parking and there is a reasonably priced restaurant a short walk away. Highly recommended.
Couldn't beat this location. You can sit in or outside the bar looking up to Mount Cook. Stunning.
We stayed in a mixed 4 bed with en suite. Roomy but the bunks were wobbly and made a bit of a noise when you moved.
Located in a beautiful and convenient spot in the village; close to all the trails and also the main road. It has awesome views all around; and we had fun watching the milky way in all its glory right from outside the hostel.

Hi, I am traveling in April with my daughter. We are not driving, but will be taking advantage of some of the bus tours. The one we looked at drops us off at Mt Cook Village. Is that near the YHA? How would we go about getting to the YHA if we are not near it? Thanks, Laura Quiza

Mt Cook is rather a small village, with few restaurants and accommodation options. So, when you get off the bus, it will be easy to ask around and just walk to the establishment. In any case, i strongly recommend you purchase a local (New Zealand) Sim card when you arrive at the airport. It is worth it as there is a special rate for international calls and SMS, not to mention, you can also call local lines easily and use the 3g or LTE network. You can even tether (be a wifi hotspot) if you have a spare mobile phone that has a hot spot feature.
