Our hunting party just stayed at the Parkland Motel for five days and it was "livable". No bedbugs and the owner/manager kept us supplied with clean (but old) towels. They also vacuumed the carpet a couple of times during our stay. However, I would not even consider staying there with my spouse. We were up and rather noisy at 5:00 a.m. each morning. The owner allowed us to clean our kill in the parking lot. Likewise, we stored some coolers and a portable duck blind on the walk in front of our rooms. Overall, it was rather shabby, just clean enough, but convenient. As a hunter, the Parkland Motel was better some hunting camps have stayed in…but not by much!

I was not going to bother reviewing this motel since Rosthern is not a real tourist destination but if you are ever driving through late at night and need a place to stay, continue on to Prince Albert (or Saskatoon depending on which way you are going)! We were in town for a family reunion and were planning on staying for two nights - Saturday and Sunday. After a look at the room, we should have ran but instead opted for one night, only because we didn't want to have to drive anywhere after the festivities Saturday evening. Our room was at the back of the motel and we were told by our cousins who occupied several other rooms, the rooms at the back were worse than those around the front. We were the last to check-in so had no choice. However, I don't think the rooms facing the highway were much better. Our room reeked of stale cigarettes and there were nicotine stains on the walls. There was a thick film of smoke on the window, spider webs in the corners, you name it. The bed itself seemed 'okay' (i.e. no bugs) and we did not bring home any undesirable creatures with us, so that is good. All the furnishings were old and run down. We did have a usable bar frigde in the room but it was dirty inside. No amenities in the bathroom - i.e. the bar of soap was not fresh, no hair dryer and we had to ask for more towels (all threadbare). All in all, probably the worst room either my husband or I have stayed in, at least as far as we can remember. I honestly don't know how anyone with any pride at all could rent out rooms like that.

I made the dubious choice of checking into this motel, with the jaw-droppingly bad room I was given: Among the many faults were: Sausage and evaporated milk left in fridge by a previous guest; mysterious pink stains on bedsheets (wondering if the sheets were actually washed, period?); a bent broken lamp, an old dirty stove having bare 2x4s as a base; grimy bathroom, and am wondering what else hasn't been cleaned lately; e.g. The carpet? The quilt? Although Parkland Motel does provide full cable and wireless Internet, the room was so disgusting that it drowns out those perks. Just makes this a one-star motel instead of a _zero_ star motel. (P.S. The 5-star ratings look rather suspicious -- you decide...) Upon checkout time I was hoping to give the managers constructive criticism, but the lobby door was locked with just a note to leave the key in the motel room. Overall, that Parkland Motel is literally _the_ worst motel I've ever stayed at -- and I mean it literally. I don't have faith in the owners/managers improving the motel anyway -- because the condition of the room was evidence enough that they hate their customers anyway.

We were booked in to the motel for 2 nights. When we got into the room we noticed that he windows were wide open, the small bed was unmade (the comforter was crumpled as if tossed onto the bed), there was a severed electrical plug on the floor, and the only chair in the room was broken. The shower was so disgusting with mold and old tiling that we didn't risk bathing our infant. There was no working fan in the bathroom and we had to use a hand towel as a bath mat because there wasn't one. One of the bars of soap was unwrapped and left on the side of the sink with a small hair on it. After asking for clean sheets because of a candy-like sticky substance we found on the sheets of the main bed, we showered and crashed for the night. There was no crib or playpen available for the baby but we'd brought our own. Thank goodness the bed was comfortable. The next morning the bathroom stunk so badly that we had to keep the door shut and brush our teeth in the kitchenette sink. That must be why the windows had been wide open the night before. The tv barley had colour and the second tv in the adjoining room with the main bed didn't even work. The fridge looked like it had lost a fight, the stove was antique, the cupboards looked like a shelf from the Salvation Army thrift store, and the carpets looked like they'd never been vacuumed. We packed up and asked for a refund. The cachier tried to tell us that she could refund the cost of the room but wasn't going to give us the tax back! My husband insisted that he was not paying tax on a night he didn't pay for. She gave him back the cost of the tax in small change - mostly dimes. Very poor service. Please see the pictures.
