Hotel Riu Chiclana garners praise for its spotless rooms and public areas, with the vibrancy of its atmosphere and entertainment options being a highlight for guests. While the pools and cleanliness earn rave reviews, some visitors mention room amenity issues and noisy environments. The staff's friendliness stands out, despite occasional slow check-ins and perceived preferential treatment. While the beachside location is popular for strolls, the overall value is questioned due to limited drink choices and a lack of peace.

Generally good. For color tastes obviously but there are aspects to improve. We checked in at 2:45 p.m., the room was not ready, the suitcases were left and we went to eat. After eating we went to room 3509 (ground floor) and when we opened it there was an overwhelming smell of humidity, ants and leaks in the bathroom. We called the reception and they moved us to 2159. There is no elevator in any building so getting the baby stroller and suitcases up/down is a real hassle. The suitcases were not brought to us until 5:00 p.m. and the pool hours are until 6:00 p.m. Some days they did strictly close. Others don't. But the fact that a coastal pool resort closes at 6 p.m. makes no sense. As for cleanliness, when we entered there was hair and lint from previous guests. On the 2nd day we left the room at 9 a.m. and they asked us at 4 p.m. to go in to clean, so we told the maid that our baby was already taking a nap and that they wouldn't clean us that day. On the 3rd day they did not even empty the garbage and we already went to reception to file a complaint. We spoke with the housekeeper Natalia and the employee of our plant and after the complaint the cleaning improved somewhat but it was not enough to rave about.
The rest of the hotel facilities are fine. Repetitive buffets but very nice staff.
Regarding location, super close beach and free parking in front and as for guests, everything, civil and educated people and wildlife people who should not leave home but this is a different story. Generally good but things need to be improved.

Riu Chiclana is a very large hotel complex, spread out over many acres. From arrival the reception and entertainment staff are friendly and helpful. Any issues are dealt with quickly.

Rooms were completely refurbished a few years ago but have been well maintained. Good shower, comfortable bed and nice decor. The Tv we did not use.

We found it better to eat breakfast between 8 and 9, lunch between 13:00 and 14:00 and dinner between 7 and 8. By sticking to these times, the main restaurants are quiet and with small children, it’s a better experience. Alternatively book the themed restaurants for a quieter experience.

Some of the guests found the main restaurant too crowded and were put off by it, but In truth, you can always get a table but there were queues for drinks at times. If you avoid the really busy times it’s very pleasant.

The overall quality of food for a 4* all Inc is very good. Lots of variety. Both the Italian and Spanish restaurants offer a lovely dining experience. Just remember to book via the Riu App. Some reports complain about cleanliness but it’s run to a high standard. I’m comparing this to other all Inc 4* and many large hotel chains.

All swimming pool areas are hosed down and cleaned each night, including the loungers. Before the parties each Friday the main bar outside floor is scrubbed using professional cleaning machines.

Entertainment for the children (under 9) was good. Riu disco is very popular with a really motivated team. For adults also, there were games and sports to join in on each day along with evening singing and parties. . For those wanting to join in fitness sessions, the Riu team did a great job.

The neon and white parties were great fun (alternate weeks) but the highlight was the foam party and Calu on the pirate ship with children and adults really getting into it.

70+ % of guests are Spanish with the minority being German and British. English is spoken, especially by reception and the entertainment teams but we never found it a problem. We did not try the kids clubs.

We used the basket ball and tennis courts in the evenings located across the road from the hotel. Both were in good order and easily booked.

Riu Art is an extra but gave the children variety.

Walking to the shops is about 0.8 miles and took 15 minutes with a 7 year old. There is a small shop at the hotel that has most things you’d need.

The beach can be accessed down 50+ steps from the back entrance to the hotel. It’s well worth a trip.

A special thanks to Anna who was cleaning block 25. She was absolutely wonderful with the children, did a brilliant job cleaning the room also. David in the main restaurant along with many others were brilliant.

One negative point are the number of guests smoking around the swimming pools and bars. I realise smoking is popular in Spain and we are visitors in another country but we had to move a few times to avoid passive smoking when at the poolside bar or outside bar 24.

In summary, the hotel is well suited to families, offers good food with enough variety, good entertainment and plenty of sun loungers around the 6 swimming pools. Would we return, in short yes we would.

Positives: The most comfortable beds and pillows I have ever had in a hotel...ever! Food fabulous, plenty of veggie options available and everything fresh and well presented. The hotel cleanliness is superb....everywhere is spotless and the public areas, including toilets, pristine. The sunbeds are cleaned and hosed down every end of day. Pools fabulous. All staff are very friendly and helpful, even if you complain that your safe is broken, but when they come to fix it for you....it was something you did wrong, they smiled and said 'no problema!'!

Negatives: people smoking everywhere! Unlike other Rius' I have been to, there are no designated 'Smoking' areas in the hotel - apart from inside. However, people do smoke indoors at the indoor/outdoor theatre and, whilst they can get away with it and are told to stop, in the 24hr bar. Our neighbours also smoked on the balconies which drifted across to our balcony and room. For us, this is a deal breaker. We won't be coming back here.

Entertainment: Okay for 1-12 year olds....loads of stuff for kids in the Riu Play areas and evenings on the main stage until 21.30+. For older kids and adults, the entertainment was, at best, just okay. The Riu Party (White and Neon) alternate Fridays, with DJs, dancing and fun, were brilliant. But in two weeks, these were the only dancing opportunities for adults. There were still loads of kids around, but mostly they were kept back to the outside areas mostly, by their parents; probably because it gets very loud!
This is a family hotel....if you are older, child free couples, you may struggle to be entertained every evening. You may also struggle to not be mown down by push chairs! There is nowhere outside of the hotel to go...no bars, clubs etc. There are beach bars, but the one we visited was very expensive and had little atmosphere and, once the sun set, few people.

Dear Dreamer52120138501, Thank you for your loyalty to RIU Hotels & Resorts, and taking the time to share your review of the Hotel Riu Chiclana. We chose this hotel for our first holiday as a family (travelling with our 3 year old) as we got a great deal from TUI. I was skeptical at first as I thought it was going to be too god to be true but we were pleasantly suprised by this hotel.

On arrival we checked in and our room wasn't quite ready for us, we gave our email and received a notification as soon as the room was ready. Our wait was short and we was able to go and use the facilities and have a look around during this time. You are given the option to have your bags taken to the room by the bell boy.

Our room was modern, spacious and clean. Equipped with a mini fridge, TV, aircon, hairdryer and toiletries you cant ask for much more. The maids were excellent and every time we left our green hanger on the door our room was cleaned to a high standard and bedding/towels changed. They could see we had a small child with us and made towel animals and placed them around the room which made us smile.

The food was better than expected from an all inclusive with not just a large variety but also some really tasty stuff. We particularly enjoyed the spring rolls, beef stew, steaks, Chinese style noodles and chargrilled vegetables.

The kids pools are fab for little ones however our little boy preferred the far/ right pool. We stayed there all week and enjoyed it, very chilled down that end which was great for teaching our 3 year old to swim. We also enjoyed watching the water polo at this pool. What was great about this hotel as there was a pool for everyone, if you was looking for something a bit more lively then the swim up bar would be perfect.

The entertainment was fab with a choice of sitting in a quiet area watching live singers/ instruments, going to watch the kids show or sitting in the sports bar where they showed the football. On Friday the neon party looked great and wasn't just for the adults, lots of RIU staff getting the children involved and had face paints.

Another good thing to note about this hotel is their app, we downloaded it and was able to book the onsite restaurants and eat there at no extra charge. There was a full schedule of the time and location of all the entertainment for the day/night which was so so helpful.

Really cant fault this hotel and are so happy we chose it for our first holiday! I will definitely be recommending this hotel and am already looking to come back next year with family and friends.

We stayed at the hotel for a week and I have to say that we loved it!! The hotel is beautiful and the facilities are very good, except for the beds and pillows, the day we arrived we were assigned a room with a double bed although we had requested two beds, the mattress was deformed and literally sank and it had "buns" so we informed the reception, at first the truth is that they did not pay any attention to us and we had to complain up to three times, the third time that was notified, the housekeeper already came to see it and as she confirmed it As indicated, they finally changed our room to one in villa 32, from that moment on everything was great.
Even so, we would like to highlight the people who assisted us upon our arrival at the reception, since although our room was not ready, they immediately gave us the bracelets so we could go to breakfast and let us change in the showers that they have free of charge so we could enjoy the pool.
Regarding the food, I can say that it is very good, in the themes it is true that it is always the same menu but every day you can go to one and things are very cooked and there is plenty of variety, the food is one of its strong points, the Drinks and cocktails are also pretty good.
Very close to the beach with access from the hotel by going down some stairs, it is true that there are 69 steps but that is not the fault of the hotel but rather the orography of the terrain, but even so they are done very well and it is less than 5 minutes away. And the beach is truly wonderful.
There is always entertainment and the performances are quite good, we really appreciate that they are in Spanish and focused on national tourists, the Riu Party was great, we loved it, in the same way as the schedules, blessed schedules... it was a pleasure to be able to go to dinner at 10:00 p.m. or staying until 8:00 p.m. at the pool, unthinkable in other hotels!! A 10 for Riu in that sense!!
The rooms are good, large and the bathroom is good, but as I indicated before, the mattresses are very bad and need to be changed, as are the pillows, which are already very used and very thin.
Normal cleaning, they cleaned our room very early in the morning and there were days when at 9:00 they were already coming in to clean it, one day they even came in with the do not disturb sign on and everything and it gave me the feeling that one day Our towels were not changed even though we specifically requested it, otherwise everything was fine.
The location is average because there is nothing around, if you are just looking for a beach it is perfect because it is next door but if you want to see something you need the car for everything.
Even so, we loved the hotel, it is beautiful and we also liked the area a lot, so it is very likely that we will repeat.

The best thing about this hotel were the staff, who were constantly trying to clear away the rubbish left by the many local Andalusian tourists. These people (our Paprika Schnitzel used to be named after them) behave disrespectfully towards the other holidaymakers.
People smoke at the pool, the many buffets are made inedible by the lack of education of these fellow holidaymakers. The staff are constantly cleaning up after themselves, the security does not intervene. Does the RIU Group actually know what is tolerated here?
This hotel is definitely not for Western Europeans, and certainly not for families with children. Even at Ballermann, things are more respectful and civilized.
I am deliberately refraining from proving these grievances with pictures and videos.
Dear German travel providers, please remove this hotel from your offers as soon as possible.

I mainly highlight the excellent management of the hotel staff, it is very large and there are many clients, but there are a lot of staff and their organization works perfectly.

All the waiters, cleaning, security and reception staff are very correct and friendly, with special mention to Raquel at reception and María José Tey from the Botánico restaurant for their professionalism.
They have their own Riu app where you can contact reception, request what you need (if something is missing in the room, if there is an incident), see the available menu in the bars or reserve a dinner appointment.
In all the restaurants abundant, varied and good quality food.
In addition to the Botánico restaurant, which is the main one, there are two themed restaurants where you can reserve through the app: Noray where the main offering is fried fish and Dolce Vita with Italian cuisine dishes. (Although in both there is food of other types for all tastes)
We do not wait more than 5 minutes in line at any of the entrances for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
It has direct access to the impressive Barrosa beach.
It has several swimming pools with many sun loungers and two bars inside them, as well as a kiosk where they constantly make hot dogs, hamburgers, squid, omelettes, French fries, etc.
The all-inclusive is real, obviously you can't select premium brands in alcoholic drinks, but what they offer is pretty good value for money.
The room is spacious and comfortable, with a mini bar (empty) but it comes in handy if you want to keep a drink cool.
The only details that could be improved in my opinion are: the bathroom towels that are too small and only leave 2, a soap dispenser in the sink (they left us a small bar of soap and they did not replace it throughout the stay) and they should review/renew The pillows.
Without a doubt to repeat!!!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday staying in Rui Chiclana and what a fantastic experience we had!

We were a family of 6, 4 adults and 2 children (ages 3 and 9). My children did not use the kids club but the hotel’s activity staff were always walking around full of enthusiasm and there were events such as a daily mini disco for kids to get involved in which were great and a big hit. There was also a splash park and child’s swimming area with slides and a pirate ship which were great. Multiple swimming pools were featured around the resort with plenty of sunbeds, we never struggled to get them.

The staff at this hotel work tirelessly, from the cleaners, to maintenance, to the waiters and they are so helpful and friendly. It is also worth mentioning this hotel is immaculate, so clean and tidy! We couldn’t get over the cleanliness of the resort, especially where it is large and at times busy.

It is a fairly typical all inclusive resort, where the food can be a little repetitive BUT it is so fresh and tasty and you have the option of trying the Italian restaurant and Spanish restaurant on site to break it up. The selection of drinks was also pretty good from cocktails to beer and wines, of which most were premium brands.

The majority of guests are Spanish but there is definitely a good mix of English and German guests and the majority of staff speak English anyway, so can help if you have any concerns or queries.

If exploring a holiday area is something you like doing then this isn’t the holiday for you as the area is specifically a resort complex with access to a beautiful beach which is definitely worth a visit. That being said TUI offer excursion trips to Cádiz and Gibraltar as an example.

All in all we had a excellent holiday and would absolutely come here again.

We were at the riu chiclana from May 12 to 19, 2024, 4 adults and 1 child aged 2 and a half. We were in a family room with 2 bedrooms (2 adults and 1 child) on the ground floor and on the 1st floor a large standard room for 2 adults with a large wardrobe, a fridge with 2 large bottles of water, a large bathroom with Italian shower, a balcony which overlooked the gardens.. The hotel is a little isolated but we knew that well and did not intend to visit but rather to rest. It's like a village with white buildings (villas) above the sandy beach (path to follow to reach wooden stairs). All staff very pleasant and ready to help if necessary. Several swimming pools, for adults and children with small slides, cool to our liking, with plenty of deckchairs available on this date at any time of the day. To drink, either go to the bar or help yourself to the dispensers installed in the gardens. Apart from the buffet in the main restaurant, we reserved the Italian restaurant with buffet upon arrival. The choice and quality of meals are good (we know that in all-in ones should not expect haute cuisine). With the Riu app you select the hotel and you will know all the activities of the day and evening. The entertainers are very dynamic, friendly and professional with the dances offered (we had not had this level in several other 4-star hotels in Spain). Every second Friday, there is the riu party (white evening) with a DJ, balloons, dancing music, dancers…., very good atmosphere until midnight. The other Friday was the neon party which we didn’t see. We took a pre-booked shuttle from Jerez airport, 45 minutes, and for the return we requested a taxi 2 days before departure at reception. We had to leave at 7am and asked to go to the buffet at 6am, no problem. First time we have tested a Riu hotel and it will not be the last. Thank you Riu Chiclana
