When we arrived there wasn't a soul there BUT waiting on the hall table was a welcome note and a key to the room. It didn't matter at all that no-one was there as we were expected and the manager had bothered to leave us a welcome note. We found the room - very nice - decent view and every...

We spent one night at Hotel Varmahlio while traveling in the north of Iceland. The hotel is located just north of Highway 1. Our room was located on the third floor at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet. The room was spacious and well-lit. Our rate included complimentary wifi and a buffet breakfast. The breakfast was...

We just stepped into the reception tired and hoping for nice place to rest. And even without any reservation made, we were warmly welcomed by the lady who appeared to be the hotel owner. With a smile of her face she has give us the room keys and wished good stay. It started with just superb meal in the restaurant...

As we were doing the tour of Iceland we had to stay in Varmahlid so we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice hotel, a brand new elevator, free parking, free wifi in room, great breakfast buffet and a friendly staff. The room was small but clean and it had 2 twin beds.

We stopped here for one night on our way to Myvatn so it was chosen for its location. We did not have high expectations but it was perfectly acceptable. Nice receptionist and the room was clean although dated. The pre-booked double bed turned out to be a permanent twin, beds fixed to the wall in place. However they were comfortable....

Our 6th night touring Iceland and again very limited hotel choice in the relatively uninhabited north west. On arrival at 16.00 our rooms weren't ready so we popped out to catch the sunset, planning on having a coffee when we returned but it had all been cleared away and no drink or anything else was offered for the inconvenience. We...

Due to heavy snow on the road N1 to Akureyri in September we had to make an unplanned stop at Hotel Varmahlid where we spent 1 night. While snowing, outside we had a very pleasant dinner at the hotel Restaurant (very good service!). Staff was very nice and extremely helpful in order to help tourists (as I) to reach their...

This is a nice hotel and we would stay there again, The only reason we've not given it 5* is that the rooms are hard work for the less fit/elderly. Whilst we were there, a lady and her husband couldn't get their cases down two flights of steps and so I carried them. This isn't a big deal if you...

This hotel makes a good stopping point on Road 1 between Reykjavik and Akureyri but should be also considered as a base for exploring the local area and as a stop on the Arctic Bow route. Our welcome was warm and professional. The room was clean, well appointed and spacious. Food cost a little more than average but a lot...
