A destination in itself, set on 400 acres of manicured grounds with two miles of beachfront. We offer three distinctive resort experiences - Founders Cove, Rose Hall Villas and Eclipse, most of which have views of the Caribbean Sea. All of our guests can enjoy the extensive facilities of this destination, which include Fern Tree, A Salamander Spa, an award-winning spa oasis in Jamaica, an 18-hole par-72 championship golf course, our own equestrian centre with 28 horses, the Sugar Mill, awarded as Jamaica's best restaurant and Delmare, the highly-desired seafood culinary experience. As a discerning traveller, you will enjoy the luxury of space and tranquility we have to offer. Imagine your first morning taking in the panoramic view of the horizon, and watching the sunrise having just concluded yoga meditation in our overwater bungalow. Whether you choose to lounge on the beach, play a round tennis or golf, visit a local art gallery, or go horse riding along the beach, your days at Half Moon are yours to spend in any way you wish.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Nestled in a prime location with easy access to the airport and picturesque beaches, Half Moon Hotel captivates guests with its tranquil ambiance and pristine condition. The resort's luxurious amenities, including diverse dining options and beautiful grounds, coupled with its serene atmosphere, make for a peaceful retreat.
While the hotel's prices may be steep for some, especially when it comes to dining, the warm and professional service provided by the staff often makes up for the cost. However, despite the spacious rooms and modern comforts, a few guests suggest that some rooms could benefit from updates.

A memorable stay was extended by Beryl's arrival. We met our family for a long awaited reunion at the resort. From the moment we arrived we were delighted in the beautiful surroundings, accommodations and especially, the staff. Through out our stay everyone remained cheerful and helpful, even under trying circumstances. Rooms were beautifully appointed and we learned, as we experienced Beryl's force for many hours, built to withstand the strongest winds with hardly a window rattle. There was no better place to be and we felt safe in the storm. Many staff stayed at the resort 24/7 to see to guest safety and comfort, forgoing being with their loved ones to care for strangers. They provided box lunches and water, even a candle and small flashlight. Power was out for a number of days, but they managed to provide lovely meals and even a carnival show one evening along with local artisans who brought their art for us to see. The staff worked day and night to clear the grounds, pools and restore power.
Prior to the storms arrival we were able to enjoy a lovely meal at the Sugar Mill. The last night before leaving the beautiful Delmare restaurant on the beach reopened and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner.
Our local family left early to take care of their homes, however we spent 4 extra days due to closed airports and delayed flights. The resort went beyond what was expected in extending our stay, reducing pricing and even providing a couple of free nights along with food, since the power was out. An example of the care we received was provided by a grounds keeper, working to clear sand and debris, who noticed us sitting on our porch. He asked if he could bring us coconuts to drink, they were on the ground having been blown off the palms. He used his machete to prepare them and brought them to us. In all our years of travel, Half Moon stands out as the finest example of hospitality, more than beautiful buildings and beaches, it was the people who made it exceptional.

I've stayed here twice over the past 2 years, and you can see previous reviews of this property I've posted. A few updates: They fixed up the gym and made it look less grungy. I wish they hadn't taken away the sit-up bench; there is a lot food here and that helped it go down. I stayed in room 3006 which is a great room at the end of the row of cottages in Hibiscus lane just between Eclipse and Founders Cove areas. It is a suite facing the ocean with 2 double beds. I've stayed in that room twice and like it. Sugar Mill Restaurant is worth a treat; their coconut banana mocktail shake is really great. You do get the usual snafus here -- the eatery up at the beach that has jerk chicken and fish ran out of fish two days in a row, and the gelateria by the Eclipse lobby had to close due to refrigeration issues. Two pain points for me to remember: If you sleep with 2 pillows and are used to bringing one with you everywhere you go, bring 2 to this place. Also, the pools here are not heated and in late November the water was colder than I expected from previous visits in March. Not so cold that you can't stand it, but cold enough that I saw few people going into the pools. One sightseeing tip: We went to Negril and to Rick's Cafe and a beach. Our trip was 7.5 hours and we spent 5.5 of them in the car. If you do this trip, you want to avoid the evening rush hour coming back. There are tons of potholes on the road and various towns that become very traffic-heavy. Rick's Cafe is cool but not worth all that time in a car. The beach we went to was very nice but no better than the resort. It was not one of my favorite days. If you are sightseeing Jamaica and have to choose, go the other way toward Ocho Rios; there are better sights for less time traveling and the road is much better.

Overall we had a good experience at Half Moon over the holidays. Here are a few notes.
Highlights
Room - we stayed at the Eclipse at a room on the ground floor. Incredibly spacious and updated, with the shower being a highlight with strong water pressure. Also was nice to have one complimentary mini bar usage (bottled water was very accessible during our entire stay also). Only feedback is that I’d suggest upgrading to nicer hair dryers, and not having as many pillows on all of the furniture.
Grounds - a really beautiful setting with perfectly manicured grounds. It was a very short walk from eclipse to founders cove, no more than 10 minutes, but you could drive your own cart or take bikes there. The gym is massive with pretty decent equipment and it was fun to rent tennis rackets and balls for free to play.
Areas for improvement
Beach/Pool - the chairs had no padding on them, which surprised us and left them not really comfortable to stay on all day. The pool area was also completely shaded with the palm trees, along with limited seating (usually full by 10am, plenty of seating on the beach). The water on the beach had quite a bit of seaweed and was pretty small. You could dip your feet but no one was swimming.
Cocktails - Overall the dining was ok, but a real bummer was that the cocktails we had were all bad. We tried at least 4 from different places before giving up, and the red wines were also bad. The pina colada was too liquid and the margarita was watery. At $18-22 each, this was a let down. We stuck to beer and hard seltzer from cans.
Concierge - we tried to book a 2 day lesson in golf but the concierge could never confirm despite us following up.
Finally- we had to leave early due to an unforeseen circumstance and we were sad to have to leave. We booked through AMEX FHR for the extra perks that booking direct did not offer. We called Amex to see if anything could be done, such as a partial refund for the 1-2/5 nights we stayed. They said the hotel told them no, and when we spoke directly to the hotel, they were quite short/rude with us saying that we shouldn’t have booked through a third party. They said if we had booked direct, they could have given us credits. Just felt a little bit sour - it’s not like we were staying at a competing property or paying a dirt cheap rate, we were still hotel guests.

I’ll try to make this quick. The resort itself is spectacular with the best attention to care from any resort you will travel to. I’m specifically talking about the wonderful employees. But they have a long way to go on getting transportation from point A to point B as a non-debatable point. I waited an hour at the Sugar Mill restaurant for transportation back to my room at Eclipse. Then after a reception I waited 30 minutes in the heat with no air blowing for transportation from the reception back to eclipse. I went inside three times asking for a ride. After 40 minutes I was told the shuttle golf cart would be coming in 50 minutes. An hour and a half is too long to have people waiting outside in unbearable heat.
The food was delicious as are the beverages. I think the prices are a bit high for beer ($18 for one local draft beer)
The cleaning crew does an immaculate job of keeping the room spotless. The employees make you feel so welcomed and wanted. I could not, and cannot even begin to express how great the employees that work at this resort are. Will I go back? Probably not. There are many other beautiful places around the world to see. This one is Lovely in so many ways, but the transportation or rather the lack of transportation coupled with the heat is a deal breaker for us. I would tell anyone going to Jamaica to go in January or February. If you are going any other months, you are going to want to stay in a pool or in an air-conditioned room. I might add that I have been on 4 “Land only” trips to Jamaica, not cruises. And they were in the warm months. We stayed in the pool except for an occasional drive in our rental car to other parts of the island. But even in the rental car we had air conditioning. You will absolutely love this resort if you go. The employees are going to make you feel like queens and kings.

Half Moon was everything I needed and wanted in a resort. It was an unparalleled luxury experience, from the moment we stepped into the stunning beachfront lobby of the Eclipse with its breathtaking views to the personalized service from every staff member on the property. The rooms/suites were spacious, modern, and impeccably designed with an oversized balcony facing the pool and beach. The spa was rejuvenating and relaxing. There were superb dining options throughout the property and live music at the bar each night. Every detail, from the linens to snacks in the room, was thoughtfully considered, making our stay truly unforgettable.

My last day at HalfMoon Resort Montego Bay. This was one of the best trips I've taken! I have nothing bad to say about this place. The grounds are impeccable, the food is 5 star, and the service is top notch! Every person I've met here has been like family would treat you. They remember your name, your room, what you like, everything. I stayed in the Eclipse room. They are brand new and gorgeous! The best pillows! Room service was always amazing and prompt. The drinks here are definitely the best, they use premium alcohol and make delicious drinks. The Delmare restaurant is 5 star, met both of the head chefs and they put out the best food. The ocean is like bath water and they have little bay areas that were built to keep the waves down. Best water I've experienced in my travels. I wish I could remember everyone's names but I'm bad at that. Tony was one of a few that took care of me on the beach. Got me anything I wanted and was genuinely a wonderful lady. I really have nothing bad to say about anyone. Shout out to every housekeeper, butler, wait staff, bell staff and the staff that checks you in. If your thinking of booking this resort...you won't be disappointed!!

here on our last night, fourth time. We like going to Negril for 5 days, then four days in MoBay for golf, swimming, and being close to airport for return. We’ve stayed at three all inclusives and disliked all of them. We have never been anything but thrilled with our stays here and to have been assigned our very favorite for a second time. What makes Half Moon magic is the commitment to simplicity and authenticity in a lush , verdant oasis of natural flora and fauna. The sprawling beach is pristine and quiet. There are several good swimming spots in ocean, there are several different pools. There is a 50 meter lap pool which is wonderful for swimming. Pool by spa is in a jungle setting and quiet. Infinity pool has some social events. We always recognize faces when returning. Many have worked here 20 + years. We have met such awesome people here in all areas and have been blessed to talk about this amazing country Yes, food is a bit high, imo. However, there is a premium that’s definitely worth it when you want a pure zen experience in pristine surroundings with warm and welcoming service.

Another perfect vacation at Half Moon! We went as a family last year and had the most incredible and relaxing time, so we knew we had to return this year and it was all that we had hoped for again. It is a true vacation. No fighting over beach/pool chairs or getting out at 6am to reserve; there is plenty of room and areas all over the resort for guests to spread out. The food is delicious everywhere, the service is outstanding, and it is a mellow place to enjoy a relaxing vacation. We will keep coming back.
Notable amazing people: Marcia in housekeeping kept us tidy and clean; Shaneika at Seagrape breakfast buffet (who was so sweet even though she had NO voice for two days she always had a smile and was super helpful), Delicia at North Pointe had a great sense of humor and so nice, Dwayne at Eclipse beach always had us set up with chairs on the beach, Monifah was so attentive with food and drinks on the beach, Monica and Raya at Anancy gave my kids such a great time, Captain Craig for tubing and kiddo snorkeling, O'Brian at the bell desk who remembered us from last year and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived "back home," Brexton at the bell desk who was thoughtful on checkout when he heard us planning lunch at North Pointe suggested we have our bags go to Eclipse and sent the taxi to the Eclipse for ease of departure. Shaniel (trainee at Sugar Mill) was great as was the server Rohan who was funny and made our kids laugh too. At checkout, Gabrielle was lovely and attentive.

Having visited Half Moon 16 times over the past 21 years, it's always a treat to "come home" to Half Moon. As always, this visit was no exception. "As always" meaning we had an immaculate beach front suite and dined on delicious food at Seagrape, SugarMill, and Delmare (check the Half Moon website for sample menus) and were invited as special guests to the resort's 70th anniversary party. In addition to celebrating the anniversary, we were invited to play in the annual charity golf tournament which raised about $40,000 US for local charities. It is absolutely wonderful of the resort ownership and management to host the golfing event year after year and to give back to the local community again this year. I want to thank Shernette Crichton, the resorts general manager, her senior managers, and so many others from food and beverage, housekeeping, concierge, reservations, the front desk staff, plus everyone at the golf course, for welcoming us back and treating us like family. Half Moon hospitality and service levels are the best and they are extended to every guest at every visit. I can't find enough superlatives to describe this and every past visit, short of saying see you this fall for visit # 17.

We recently returned from a fabulous family vacation at Half Moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The hotel sits on a beautiful site on the seashore, shaded by palm trees and other flowering trees. Two miles of white, sandy beaches are accented by small, created, bays that provide calm, shallow waters for small children. The beach is so extensive that we were almost always able to find a stretch of beach with nobody else on it except the lifeguard. The rooms/villas are strategically placed so that you have a great view while maintaining a degree of privacy. They are well appointed with king-size beds and large bathrooms. Each room has WIFI and televisions (although we never turned them on). Traveling with two small children between the ages of 1 and 6 can be challenging, but the staff went out of the way to ensure that our two connecting rooms had a crib and extra bed in them as well as extra towels. We really appreciated the friendly, efficient, housekeeping service twice a day to cope with the sand that inevitably was dragged in. We particularly enjoyed sitting on our covered terrace, listening to the waves washing up onto the beach. Even when it rained, we were able to still sit outside and enjoy the scenery. There are numerous restaurants, all of which serve delicious food although the service was sometimes a bit slow for a young child! We particularly enjoyed having the buffet breakfast on the terrace every morning overlooking the water as well as the beach barbecue. Because the property is so large, we opted to rent a golf cart to travel around. There are charging stations outside every room to ensure that you never run out of power. This enabled us to transport the children to the Children’s Village where a very efficient, well-organized group of counselors ensured that our children were well cared for and entertained while we enjoyed the spa, water sports, tennis, the pool, and the beach. There are also bicycles scattered around the property for guests to use. What particularly impressed us about Half Moon was the super-friendly, efficient staff, from the beach attendants to the manager. We never ran across anyone who did not have a smile and a friendly greeting and who made us feel that our happiness was paramount. It is highly recommended. The only sour note of the vacation was the chaotic and very long (1.5 hours) process, both on arrival and departure at the Montego Bay airport, which can be even more unpleasant when traveling with small chidren. But that has nothing to do with the hotel. If you go, be sure to book VIP service. We didn't know about it.

Dear Valued Guest, Our goal is to provide the best service and amenities for our guests and their satisfaction is our reward. Thank you for sharing such detailed yet lovely feedback on your recent Half Moon visit. We are delighted you enjoyed your experience notwithstanding the glitch with the restaurant wait-time, your sunset view obstruction, and the lengthy process time at the airport. Half Moon is truly an expansive resort there is so much to see and do, our wide array of activities whether it be: Golf, Tennis, Squash, Fitness, Spa, Equestrian, Water sports, or just lazing on the beach; there is always something to relish. We are thrilled the family enjoyed the overall resort, and its offerings. Thank you for complimenting the team, we will be sure to share your comments with everyone. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back ‘home’ soon for another blissful experience. Sincerely, Shernette Crichton General Manager

Yes, you can. The stores are thru a gate in the Rose Hall Villas compound. There is a shop that has wine, liquor and beer. Their prices are crazy. The commissary is next door. They sell beer and their prices are more reasonable.
I loved Hibiscus in Founders Cove. Rooms were remodeled and it was in the center of everything... pools, fitness, tennis, game room, and main dining. We plan to stay at Eclipse next time to check it out. It is newer, quite lovely and just a few minutes from Founders. Some rooms had not yet been remodeled at Founders. Hope this helps.
It depends. Some of the Founder's Court cottages have their own pool so you may have immediate access to a pool. Two large pools, one with the swim up bar and the other the adjacent Olympic style and size pool are a 5 minute walk tops from the furthest West Cottage in Founders Cove. See the resort map at Halfmoon website and note "Hibiscus", the two big pools are there.
There are more places to choose from in the Rose Hall area.
