This is my third review of this establishment. I travel to Bella Coola on business and there are not a lot of choices, especially if you need a kitchenette, a good idea since restaurants are scarce.I was booked for a week. I wrote ahead to request a bright room, as on previous visits the room was very dark. I had to pay extra for a "king" suite, and it did have two windows on the second floor. This required I got help with my heavy suitcase up the outdoor wooden stairs. The kitchen part was good except for a lack of supplies - no pot holders, or dish brush, or oven-proof dish. I was at first told I could not have oven mitts or dish brush due to food-safe rules, but they were kind enough to go out and buy those. I struggled and need help lighting the oven, and the drain stopper in the sink would get stuck and required attention from housekeeping as well. Let's talk about the bed. It was a huge presumably homemade structure with a wooden frame all around the possibly foam mattress. Part of the bedding was a grey colour, which doesn't exactly inspire cleanliness. Four pillows as solid as blocks graced the bed. They were horrible to sleep on. The bedding reeked of candy-sweet laundry products, which I am extremely sensitive to. After a sleepless night (yes the rooster was still doing his thing from 3 am on), I asked for fresh bedding washed in unscented products. They readily agreed to this. I could not tell if they rewashed the same bedding, or gave me fresh. I got into bed the second night and the bedding smelled slightly of laundry scent AND that disgusting musty, stale sheet smell that makes you wonder who last slept in the sheets. I debated asking them to change them again, but decided against it as I was probably already labeled a demanding guest. I slept with a piece of my own (clean) clothing across my nose instead. I did not partake in the "free breakfast" after learning they had no gluten free items except for hard boiled eggs. As mentioned, there are a couple roosters in the neighbourhood that can seriously interrupt your sleep. Also the rooms are very close to the highway, so there is traffic noise during daylight hours and intermittently through the night. I may be forced to stay here again, and I would recommend to anyone booking that you contact the management ahead of time and spell out your needs. With a shortage of accommodations in the Valley, it's easy to play to the lowest common denominator.…
The welcome in this rustic lodge was warm like the e-mail correspondence about the booking in advance. We had a functional room with kitchenette so that we did not depend from restaurants because the open next ones were obviously in the 15 km away Bella Coola. Unfortunatlely, the restaurant in the accommodation was closed due to Covid restrictions. There was a supermarket in a km distance. We felt very well during our stay. The bathroom was very tidy. The surrounded nature offers a lot of activities. We came especially to observe grizzlies in the river of the valley. This is a good starting point for it. There are not many options much closer to the viewing platform.
Situated in quaint Hagensborg, just outside Bella Coola, the Bella Coola Mountain Lodge, in my opinion is the best option for accommodation in area. Large room, nice grounds, friendly staff and having the breakfast bar was a welcome bonus.
This lodge is at Hagensborg which is a few kilometers from Bella Coola. The room we had was huge with a view of the mountains and had a kitchen. The breakfast bar was really good with home made granola. The lady at reception was very helpful.
