Magma Resort Santorini, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, is lauded for its peaceful atmosphere with serene views and quiet, well-designed rooms. While the resort's cleanliness and modern amenities receive high marks, contributing to a luxurious stay, some guests feel the value could be improved considering the cost.
Its prime location offers both convenience and tranquility, yet a few travelers mention a desire for more storage space in rooms. Service is generally celebrated for its professionalism, though there are occasional mentions of disorganization.

Detailed Reviews
I was at this wonderful resort for my stay in Santorini. Everything was immaculate from the staff to the property itself. Located at the midpoint of the island, next to very rare volcanic vineyards, Magma Resort is a peaceful and quiet retreat that is a short drive to all major areas in Santorini. The view of the sunrise from public resort areas (such as the restaurant and pool spaces) and the rooms/suites are absolutely breathtaking every morning and perfectly paired with an in-room Nespresso machine and a morning swim in the private pool within each living space. The restaurant (with a Michelin Star Chef) had the most amazing food as well! The restaurant Spondi is a MUST to go, multiple times, while staying at this tranquil resort. There is a breakfast buffet in the morning that is not one to miss either! There are pristine housekeeping cleaning services in the morning and in the evening for the rooms (you can request no entry or additional cleaning services with cute little buttons on the wall by the thermostat too). In my room, I believe the King Private Pool option, all windows were floor to ceiling that double as pocket doors opening to a cozy deck area by the pool so the floor plan for the units are very open, accessible and relaxing. And to top the floor plan design off, the bathroom did have two entrances, one from the deck and one from the room which I highly appreciated (avoiding walking through the entire space just to get to the bathroom and shower after being in the pool). Most importantly, the staff was AMAZING!! I cannot say this enough! Everyone was very kind, attentive and accommodating to my personal and all guest's requests. Gregory and Marilou were absolutely incredible when assisting me with anything that I needed day or night! I actualIy loved the resort so much I even chose to extend my stay and rearrange my travel plans based on my stay at Magma Resort after the first night there. I was so sad leaving, I felt like a little kid going home from Disney when I left this resort. I already have made another reservation for next year and am so excited to go back and unwind at Magma Resort.

Hotel is situated in a lovely resort. We booked a room with a pool, which was great. Terrace area was lovely, but view sub par. We got a room with a sea view….had to literally go to the edge of the pool and stretch your neck to see the sea…
Staff very attentive, cannot complain, but the prices in this hotel are excessive. €10 for a bottle of water!!!!! Nonsense.
Main pool area and bar are in a lovely setting, again though view is only good around the corner. Also, only one restaurant which is insanely expensive. €180 for set menu per person…(!!!) or other items including steak @ €120…
They can arrange the hotel taxi for you, but again very difficult to get home from places. Think they should offer a free shuttle service like other hotels on the island as a benefit to the guests since hotel far out from Oia and Fira.
Cleaning is very good, bar service also excellent as are the main reception staff, but prices need to be seriously revisited.
Would also be great if they could arrange day trips or at least recommend for the guests.
All in all, would recommended but some adjustments needed.

Loved it here! The staff made the stay really worth it. I loved that the cleaners also came multiple times a day to ensure my room was always in great shape. They are so patient knowledgeable, and kind.

The location is remote - no side walks so basically if you can’t drive you need to hire cars to take you anywhere (which are incredibly expensive eg: 50 Euro each way to Oia which is a 15 mins drive, 25 Euro to Fira which is 5 mins drive)
The rooms are very basic - not much water is provided for free. The tea and coffee doesn’t even offer English breakfast/ basic black tea. No full length mirror - only one over the sink. Tiny little trash cans which are not fit for purpose. We were upgraded to the room with a private pool except there is no privacy - the family next door spent their time looking in at us frequently. They forgot to do turndown service the first night we arrived so no fresh towels available the next morning.
Breakfast is very poor - very little of anything available and the serving trays were constantly empty as people were eating a lot so you had to be there when the food arrived otherwise no food!
There is only 1 restaurant in the hotel - again not ideal considering the location is very remote. There is only a pool bar - again not somewhere to have any pre or after dinner drinks etc
The spa is through a 3rd party and charged london rates ie again very expensive however unfortunately the massage and facial was so poor it was not even worth it at half the cost
I could continue but all I need to say was we were meant to stay for 10 days and we left after 2
The redeeming factor is the staff are lovely - there is not much they can do with what they have but they were very apologetic and should be commended for managing with what they have

Dear Ally Ho, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps us enhance our services. We would like to clarify that our hotel’s location is prominently featured on our website and all promotional materials to prevent any misunderstandings. Many guests find our remote setting to be a unique source of tranquility, while still being conveniently close to the capital of Santorini, Fira. To further enhance our guests' experience, we provide complimentary shuttle services four times daily to Fira and the nearest beach. Oia is located approximately 20 minutes from the hotel depending on traffic. Regarding the rates you mentioned, they are sourced from our external partner, which we utilize to ensure our guests receive the best possible service, especially given the limited availability of taxis on the island, which generally offer similar rates. As a relatively new establishment, having had our soft opening in 2022, our rooms are designed with a modern, minimalist aesthetic. We provide complimentary water for our guests, and additional beverages can be ordered from our bar if needed. We are also pleased to offer English Breakfast Tea and basic black tea upon request. Our housekeeping team maintains a rigorous cleaning schedule, servicing rooms twice daily, which minimizes the need for larger trash receptacles. However, should you require assistance with waste disposal, our Front Desk is available 24/7 to accommodate your needs. We regret that the upgrade to a king room with a private pool did not meet your expectations. While our pools are intended for private use, we acknowledge that complete privacy cannot be guaranteed. We have noted your concerns regarding the turndown service and will address this with our housekeeping team to ensure improvements are made. Our restaurant team is committed to providing a delightful breakfast experience, with a constantly replenished buffet to cater to our guests' preferences. We also offer two distinct menus for lunch and dinner, and there are several excellent dining options within walking distance for those who prefer not to travel to Fira. We sincerely apologize that your spa experience did not align with the high standards we strive to uphold. Your feedback will be communicated to our third-party provider to ensure they are aware of your concerns. We understand that your primary concern was the hotel's location, which many guests appreciate. However, we recognize that preferences vary, and we were pleased to offer you a 50% refund on your original booking, which you accepted. We are grateful for your kind words regarding our staff, who work diligently to provide exceptional service. We will ensure they receive the recognition they deserve for their efforts. Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide you with a more enjoyable experience. Kind regards, Sara Vagionaki Guest Relations Manager

Before sharing our bad experience, I’d like to note that our spa experience with Stella, Anastacia and Maria was a 10/10. They were outstanding. Marilou at the front desk also saved the day with her kindness, too bad we met her at the end of our stay.
First impressions are everything, we walked into this beautiful new hotel excited to end our honeymoon here but were greeted with stressed and rude front desk employees with “passport passport and credit card” while on the phone (with two other employees standing there not looking up from what they were doing), a hello would’ve been nice. It felt like we were in the security line at a crowded airport. Their stress quickly transferred to us but we still tried to be nice and understanding the hotel is new.
Although we paid for an upgraded room, I still asked if they had any upgrades available with our Hyatt card, the employee responded with a snarky “as an explorist you’re only eligible if it’s available… and it’s not”. I take he has never worked in a hotel - I’ve traveled the world and have received better service at a 30 euro/night hostel.
Our stay only got worse with the most uncomfortable hotel tour, we both felt as if we were an inconvenience or were staying there for free.
To summarize the rest: we weren’t told basic information at check in, like they charge your room for taxis you order (we were trying to pay our taxi and because of language, the diver was having a hard time telling us the hotel already paid), oia is about 15 minutes and there is no hotel shuttle at any time, no full size mirror in the rooms - only the bathroom mirror. Pool bar service is slow.
Beautiful and peaceful hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the town, hopefully the staff changes or is retrained so this hotel can thrive.
It is clear across the board with staff there is significant disconnect/lack of leadership on what hospitality is and how to operate in a service environment.

I’m in two minds about this hotel. The setting is away from the crowded sites yet only 15-20 mins by car from them all but it doesn’t have views. Oddly the view from the lovely huge long pool is towards the east coast sea but over their own car park - odd bit of architecture!
Restaurant nice enough but breakfast was a bit average really.
Our biggest gripe was housekeeping who forgot all toiletries on day 1 and on day 3 left us minimal towels (having taken 5 dirty ones!). The in room water wasn’t replenished except on one day of 3.
So nice enough, would I stay again, probably not.
Some staff very helpful, others seemed very inexperienced.

We were placed in a room with broken automatic curtains which we were told would be fixed but nobody came to repair it. Second, heated indoor pool heater was broken so water was cold and we were not able to use it . We wish this was communicated to us before we arrived , in fact it was not even mentioned while customer service relations person was giving us a tour of the amenities, we didn’t find out until we were ready to jump in. This was a deciding reason why we booked this hotel, if we knew we were not able to use it we would have booked different property. Hotel is out of walkable distance of Thira, they do have a shuttle but it leaves at 10 and noon and there isn’t any coming back to hotel from the town between noon and 5pm, so we ended up spending 25-30 euros for taxi. Only one restaurant at the property and grossly overpriced. Complimentary breakfast just OK. On the plus side, staff is very polite.

We came at the end of the season. They'll close for the year at the end of October. We got upgraded to the room with sea view and pool. Wasn't able to use the pool and the public pool because it was too cold. They stopped the fine dining for the season as well, only serve comfort food so we didn't eat in. The breakfast only had a la carte because they didn't have enough guests to serve breakfast bigger buffet style. The breakfast menu is limited but it was good. The room was cleaned except the shower wooden floor has some mold stain . It was probably due to moisture. Also the glass separating the shower area to the rest of bathroom was a little short so the shower water would splash all over the bathroom .
The staffs are friendly and helpful.

Magma Resort in Santorini is truly a paradise in Santorini. The resort itself is situated about 15 minutes outside of Oia in the heart of the touristy area but I found it to be refreshing to be able to go from the more crowded areas in the center to the quiet location of the hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating and wonderful in every respect. I want to send a giant thank you to Athina, Greg, and the rest of the staff for making us feel like part of their family during our stay. We were given an upgrade immediately upon checkin with a room with an infinity pool. The restaurant on premises is delicious and menu designed by a Michelin star chef. Top notch service, food, amenities, and ambience. You won’t get a view of the caldera but you’re not far away and you get everything you need and more at this luxurious paradise of a resort.

Amazing service - staff super helpful and friendly. We used Amex points to book a room with its own plunge pool, but got upgraded to a beautiful suite with its own private pool which our teenage girls loved. However, for a 5-star resort we found the food underwhelming. Breakfast was good, but we had lunch in the restaurant and ordered room service and the food was just OK. The biggest negative of the hotel is the location which is in the middle of nowhere. The view from the hotel (infinity pool) was nice but doesn't compare to the kinds of iconic views you would get from hotels in Oia. Also, taxis on the island are expensive (Euro 40-60 no matter where you go) and the hotel only has shuttle service to the main town of Fira twice in the morning and twice in the evening. It is only 10 minutes away so a more regular service would be helpful. There is no shuttle service at all to Oia (25 minutes away) which is the more scenic destination.

Dear Jo G, Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your recent stay at Magma Resort Santorini. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed our service and that our team could make your stay memorable by upgrading you to a suite with a private pool—it's wonderful to know your family, especially your teenage girls, loved it. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding our dining options and location. While we’re glad you enjoyed breakfast, we’re sorry to hear that lunch and room service did not meet your expectations. Your comments have been shared with our culinary team as we continuously strive to enhance our offerings. Regarding the location, we understand that our serene setting might not appeal to everyone, especially compared to the iconic views of Oia. We aim to provide a peaceful retreat, but we recognize the importance of accessibility and will certainly take your suggestions on shuttle service into consideration for future improvements. Thank you again for your valuable insights. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an even more exceptional experience. Kind regards, Sara Vagionaki Guest Relations Manager
